I love the idea that there was a story behind that outfit. It always stood out and seemed misplaced, but your story ties it in nicely.

Merlin is just too adorable. I never tire of reading this one over again.

I love this snippet of time we never got to see on the show. I wish we had, it's so in keeping with how the series was written to start with. Arthur and Merlins witty repartee, Gwen reiterating her wish that things could stay exactly as they were whilst knowing they can't in such fundamental ways. Arthur making Merlin accept the care he cannot show in public too often without making his friend into both a target and an object of curiosity. And then the banter of Arthur being jealous and slightly prattish yet still managing to give him those backhanded compliments. Perfection my dear.

"I don't care about any of them, Arthur. I'm your man, first, now, and always." AWW! LOL! That's just so adorable, but I also can't help picturing Arthur's face when Merlin says that. It's true, though. The knights can declare their loyalty as often as they want; and Arthur's always rather touched, but when Merlin does the same thing, our favourite prat acts as if they're wandering off into dangerously soppy territory.

Hahahaha Gwen's unintentionally guilttripping Merlin so hard! And how on earth did Arthur end up with a girly coat?

I really do love the bond between Merlin and Arthur, however, the prince/king's somewhat awkward manner when dealing with our warlock makes me wonder if he never had a real friend until Merlin came along. I'm guessing this is more than likely the case; and that Arthur went through his entire childhood friendless and lonely. That would explain why he occasionally struggles with dropping the prince/king mask when around those he considers his friends. Even The Knights of the Round Table, who are, for all intents and purposes, his brothers; and even some times with Merlin, there's an obvious difference between 'Arthur'; and 'Prince/King Arthur Pendragon'. I just think if he'd had some good friends growing up, he'd be a little more at eas with the idea of being a friend/brother to those who can truly earn his trust, not simply a 'friendly' leader/master. Pity he didn't grow up with Merlin and the knights.

And now look your story made me go all philosophical! I'm so sorry!

Cute. And he really is hot that Merlin, can win more hearts than Arthur when he wears leather. Hot shot!

"It's an honor to bath after the King" Right... sometimes I'm glad we live in XXI century xD Though it probably was an honor then... xd Loved the bromance, humor, banter... And look how popular our Merlin became! Gwen was kind of right when she corrected Arthur about Merlin, wasn't she? cofcof xd I really liked that scene when Gwen talks with Merlin, before the coronation. Always thought it was probably strange that your friend is suddenly your Queen, I liked how they made it look like: still friends, nothing else matters. It was good how Arthur rescued Merlin when he realized he was getting in trouble, nice conversation, and good ending. I was grinning all the time!

The moment you realize modern plumbing changed lives as Merlin bathes in Arthur's leftover bathwater... :)

I never connected that the "girly coat" from the deleted scene was the one Merlin wore to Gwen's coronation. I loved Arthur mentioned Merlin's fine cheekbones after Gwen point it in his head. Haha. And Arthur being protective as soon as he saw Lady Albrade - nice twist with that one. ;)

That's fantastic; well composed. Thanks so much for writing it. I love the banter. Arthur's fun when he's delirious with happiness. The feast and Arthur's note were hilarious. The ending is perfect.
