SinfullySimple chapter 5 . 5/8/2019 Damn. Stunning. No other words can come close to describing it. |
Percie Jean chapter 5 . 4/9/2019 This is so well-written. You do a fantastic job of fleshing out scenes while still keeping the focus on the characters and their interactions. The relationships you’ve created are both believable and in-character, which I’d imagine is hard to do when you’re writing AU. There are so many things I could mention that I liked, but I’ll just name a few: 1) Your depiction of Race is heart-wrenching but also relatable. It’s made clear why he’s built up the walls he has and the reasons his defense mechanisms are in place, yet underneath it all is a boy who is longing for stability, acceptance, and love. He is the reader’s “in” to the story, and you’ve done a wonderful job of writing him in such a way where the reader really empathizes with him. Your handling of Race’s struggles with depression, anxiety, and self-harm was also sensitive and well done. 2) The non-traditional family dynamic between Jack, Race, Crutchie, and Katherine is beautifully established and very sweet. The little details you add (such as their ice cream and movie nights) make their home environment stand in stark contrast to the intensity of Jack’s job and Race’s troubles at school. It’s clear that their home is a haven, a place where the normalcy of struggling through chemistry homework and scheming about getting a dog provides much needed rest from the pressures and trials of the outside world. 3) I really liked how you teased both Spot and Davey’s roles early on in the story (Spot’s cameo during the chase scene and Davey’s 7 messages on Jack’s phone were great details—you didn’t say much, but it was enough for a reader to know who they were—good intentional and well-executed (yet subtle) choices as an author). It was so satisfying to finally find out where they fit into the narrative, and I look forward to seeing them team up with Jack in future chapters. (As a side note, It was also amusing to “meet” Spot and Davey through the eyes of Race. A reader already comes in with a “preconceived” idea of how these characters will act and operate (based on their cannon characterizations), and it’s fun to see those ideas either confirmed (Spot is scarily intimidating despite his short stature) or tweaked slightly (Race thinks Davey seems intimidating; cannon Davey is decidedly not). Anyway, long-winded way of saying KUDOS to you for this well-written piece; I look forward to reading more! :) |
selizabethharrisburg chapter 5 . 4/6/2019 Erin! It's been FFOORREEVVEERR and I'm so sorry! Have I mentioned how much I love this story? It's such a unique take. I feel like there's a whole new level of characterization when these boys aren't all necessarily on the same team, or even know the same things. And I love angsty Race. Jack really is a wonderful big brother, isn't he? I love bringing that out and I love his relationships with his brothers. I really like how you're hinting about their past, but word to the wise, we gotta find out more soon or the tension is either going to break or fizzle. And the way that this started and ended was amazing! The introspective beginning reflection was really interesting, and the end was amazing symbolism. I wish I had more to add, but you've grown into such a strong writer. All I can say is very nicely done and PLEASE POST MORE SOON THANK YOU VERY MUCH |

The French Waffle chapter 5 . 3/26/2019 Oh. Dear. God. I loved this entire story so far! It's actually made me cry (no shame in tears, my friend) and it's an interesting idea that I was kinda skeptical about at first, but you proved me wrong. Keep writing! |
