epicvictory2025 chapter 45 . 7/20
That was quick getting another chapter uploaded. I like it.

Well to start off, I'll go with Nic and Erza first. They finally arrived to Akala Island and manage to settle in quite well... a bit too well for Erza enjoying the delectable sweet pastries served there and her Slurpuff also wanting to enjoy it (too bad hers got stolen by a Wingull. LOL). But eventually, they have just met the Kahuna of Akala... Olivia. I honestly wasn't expecting her and Erza starting to get along and become quick friends, complimenting each other, even with Olivia complimenting Erza's wedding ring... and all that girl talk was pretty amusing with Nic being there and hearing it. As Olivia left, Nic and Erza knows they must keep it low this time and not repeat what they did on the last island.

Well, another Lusamine moment and now she's getting reports that's happening recently so that means she might soon get involved with all of this sooner or later. Wonder how she and Nic will interact.

Same for Arthur and the Cambire foundation with Arthur being the usual

Also, back at Fairy Tail. The summer heat was sure a nuisance but that got taken care of with Bergmite's Icy Wind. Sure do love pokemon using their moves for mundane things that are beneficial for some people who want to cool down. Sure loved the epic fight with Natsu's Charmeleon and Lucy's Staryu vs Gray's Snorunt and Juvia's new gentlemanly Wartortle which was fun and intense.

However... this is where it gets to a point now when Shiin shares his expression of this new kind of normal that's happening in Earthland with pokemon co-existing with everyone and Vanessa being the one hearing that and even giving him some questions that counter some of his points. He says what's the point to all these battles, the frailty that humans from the PokeEarth are since they have no magic, believing humans are using deceit to make the pokemon work for them, the risk the power they wield may turn on them, and why humans and pokemon do battles like that. He is sort of right since Earthland is far more dangerous and cruel compared to PokeEarth since we've a lot of bad things happen. Though, in Vanessa's defense, he is being a little hypocritical since Earthland is also filled with humans (it's complicated because these are two different universes that are now somewhat interconnected and humans of different franchises are similar, yet, so different, in certain ways). Vanessa just gives her best answer that the reason pokemon and humans come together is because of so many years of surviving and fighting together they formed a very tight bond down the generations that it's traditional and natural.

You know, this has got me thinking for some time again that this does really pose a challenge to the current status quo of Earthland with Pokemon. I mean, thanks to Arthur and the Combire foundation, much of Earthland has really accepted this new kind of life that many powerful mages have got pokemon of their own, both to help them in battle and as lovable companions... as the foundation spreads, more of Earthland accepts... yet, there are some places that never will accept it and see pokemon as a threat to everything they believe and stand for so it's possible the kingdom Shiin is from... has ordered him to take pictures of the place filled with pokemon and than devise what they shall do... and I fear it's something I don't want to guess...

Also... it seems Juvia's Wartortle seems to be a bit nervous around Wendy's Amaura.

Last but not least, the biggest part of all is with the Freaks and the villain of the Week they faced. You know, the way this went almost feels like something out the early chapters/episodes Fairy Tail used to do...a simple quest of a team from the guild finding a problem and find a villain of the week with a goal that's not world life threatening but still a danger that the team must stop... I sure love that touch there. Anyways, the team of Freaks that consist of Joey, Derecee and Duncan, search for a problem where people and pokemon alike are disappearing in a certain area so it's them that investigates.

Though, the moment it was decided Duncan was gonna go scouting... I had a bad feeling something was gonna go wrong (and if we recall the first thing that happened at the beginning of this chapter)... a singing voice that was really alluring which seemed to hypnotized him and sent him walking into the direction. Dereceree eventually found Duncan and tried to snap him out of it but he too got caught up in the song as well and headed where Duncan was going. As for Joey, I kinda expected Kane would show up at a chapter like this... more determined to beat him than ever that he even has an Aloha Meowth that's quite sassy and prideful of her looks, while knowing Feint which is known to get past a lot of barrier based moves... and Joey's barrier magic isn't safe either... and now they too (And their pokemon that were battling) were also caught in the song. Though, if it wasn't for Kane (subconsciously, just to spite and one up Joey) slapping that twig in Joey's face and disabling his hearing aids. This is the second time Joey's deafness comes into play that prevents sound based magic getting to him and he uses that to his advantage to sneak and blend in... finding a cave where the villainous woman named Siren is and her pack of Brionne that are her back up singers as she gathers all the people and pokemon for her goal. And so, to stop her, he needs some help as he gives Kane the ultimate wet willy and breaks him free of the spell. Reluctantly, Kane helps Joey. Though, I do like how Kane is willing to help Joey, but likely out of necessity since it's only HE that will beat Joey and no one else but HIM that will do it.

And so, Joey does the most awesome thing imaginable... gets out his BOOMBOX and lays down the beat and music of all kinds of awesome songs you listed that were fitting that also freed everyone from the spell... though, that only pissed off Siren that she and her Brionne duel Joey and his Tympole, and Kane and his Roggenrolla. Though, this isn't a normal pokemon duel so she even uses her song to force the hypnotized people and pokemon to attack which forced Joey to use his barrier to keep them out (except Kane's Meowth). Eventually, the battle got more tense as Joey even used his boombox to enhance Tympole's sound based attacks which is actually clever. As it seemed things got bad, Tympole and Roggenrolla evolved into Palpitoad and Boldore respectively and defeated the last Brionne and Joey finishing Siren off with his Dragon Ram.

As she was arrested, it seems Siren from a previous guild... only to be kicked out because of using her magic voice to entice people and get what she wants but than tried to be a concert singer... only to suffer an injury and than got replaced... forcing her into crime. Lastly, as much as Kane helped, he still refuses to join them and vows he will beat Joey.

That was an awesome chapter, especially on Joey's side. Hope the next chapter comes out soon.

The freaks storyline really captures the fun of early fairy tail.

KEEP BEING AWESOME!
Kallerston chapter 45 . 7/15
Alright carrying on with the Alola arc, we have a new chapter with a self-contained plot amongst other moving parts happening in two worlds. Let’s dive into more details.

So other than the main plot we get a couple of side stories so to speak that show off more of the newer adjustments Earthland is having to Pokémon. We get brief battle with Trainer’s at the Aether Foundation, overlooked by Arthur checking in on Brandish’s condition and any way he could help.
We also have Shiin observing Natsu & Lucy having a double battle against Gray and Juvia’s recently caught Wartortle. He has an interesting conversation with Vanessa over the point of Pokémon battles and questions how the humans of Pokéarth haven’t been made extinct since they need to rely solely on wild animals to survive. It’s an interesting point to make and Vanessa can’t really fault his way of thinking though she does poke and prod at him to get information on him herself but decides to leave him be after giving him an answer that humans and Pokémon on Pokéarth get along because they both understand one another. Though Shiin is still far from happy with that answer.
We also have two side stories’ in Alola. The first is where Nic and Erza have travelled to the next island; Akala island. After some sweet purchases and some comedic misery on Slurpuff’s part, the two sit at a café for a meal when the two are spotted by none other than the island’s Kahuna Olivia. They learn of her jewellery store and decide that it should be their next stop to find out more about Z-crystals and Z-rings. Although they decide to spare the detail from her given what happened with Hala and Tapu Koko.
The second is back in the Aether Foundation where Lusamine receives news about her employees getting assaulted by the UB: Parasites. Taking in the information as well as new data relating to Nic and Erza’s arrival. With no other option Lusamine calls the international police, hinting at the arrival of the UB Task Force.

However, the main plot of this chapter once again focuses on Joey and the Freaks. In the middle of a job involving the disappearances of guild mages and wild Pokémon, Kane once again rears his head, this time with a new Pokémon; Alolan Meowth. Aside from being a regional variant, Meowth’s specialty in Kane’s team is that it knows Feint, a weak 30 power attack that’s main draw is its ability to bypass any protective move such as Protect, King’s Shield and in the case of Joey his Barrier-Make magic. The two engage in a double battle during the harsh summer sunlight acting in the same manner as harsh sunlight in the Pokémon games. It’s a pretty close battle especially with Meowth’s tricky move set and the weather putting Joey at a disadvantage, however they’re interrupted by an alluring siren’s song that draws them away. This siren aptly named Siren is the cause of the disappearances having already captured Dereece and Duncan with their Heracross and Honchkrow. All seems hopeless when a fortunate branch knocks the hearing aids out of Joey, snapping him out of her spell and rendering him immune to all future uses. Following the hypnotised line into the cave, Joey comes face to face with his friends, enemy and all other kidnappees being made to listen to and applaud Siren’s performances with her five Brionne. Joey manages to get to Kane and after snapping him out of Siren’s spell the two reluctantly agree to team up. They manage to grab Tympole and Roggenrola and begin their counterattack using Joey’s boombox to cancel Siren’s mind control. The songs used though…not to my tastes. Movies such as Kingsman and Guardians of the Galaxy show how effective this could be, but none of the songs listen really fit the mood so to speak. Still Joey’s Barrier’s are able to defend the two from all but Meowth’s Feint and with some quick-thinking Joey plugs an auxiliary cord into Tympole’s mouth to amplify his Round attack. A little unorthodox but I see it working a little like a Pokémon item so it has some grounds to stand on. With the crowd dispersed and the remaining Freaks freed, Dereece and Duncan handle four of the Brionne leaving Joey and Kane to deal with Siren and her last one. Despite the 2vs1 Tympole and Roggenrola fatigue and Brionne’s higher stats push the two on the backend even with the aux cord boosting Tympole’s power. However, despite the deafening sounds throughout the cave Tympole and Roggenrola can hear their master’s cries allowing them to evolve into Palpitoad and Boldore. Learning Power Gem and Hyper Voice via aux cord tutoring respectively. This new rush of power allows them to overpower Brionne and win the fight. Siren is arrested by the Rune Knights, we learn of her backstory that she manipulated guildmates to take their money to host gigs, got kicked out the guild and tried to live an honest concert life, but was thrown to the curve after one bad injury even after they recovered. Joey offers Kane a chance to bury the hatchet and start over as friends but Kane just won’t have it, reinforcing his desire to be the one to finally put Joey Haycliff into the dirt before vanishing. Leaving the rest of the Freaks to head home.

So overall this chapter was pretty decent. The overarching plot didn’t so much continue as it did skip a couple of steps forward, but it was a fun little chapter to read. Some of the deaf jokes with Joey repeating what Kane already said were funny and I really like the double battle between the two trainers. The move sets and the weather condition added some uniqueness to it all. Somethings could have been improved here or there, but overall, it was another fulfilling chapter. Here’s to the next one whenever that may be.
Geneevee chapter 45 . 7/13
Me: Man, things are looking pretty bad right now. Nic and Erza have have to do something, and fast.
P.S. Congratulations for Tympole and Roggenrola evolving into Palpitoad and Boldore! I'm so happy for both of you Joey and Kane! (Even though you're both frenemies.)
Coral the Leviathan chapter 45 . 7/13
Fantastic chapter as always.

To start with, at a certain foundation in Fiore, we see progress being made with the mages and their Pokemon. The basics in Pokemon battling are slowly getting in their brains, but it's still progress nonetheless for them. Not only that, but whether it be citizens of Earthland or people crossed over from PokeEarth, they had found a way to use Pokemon moves to create vaccines or appliances, and that speaks a lot about how people are getting along with Pokemon. Now, if only a certain spy is aware of the impact Pokemon has caused in their lives.

Speaking of, in the Fairy Tail guild, on a hot day like that, it is the day when one would definitely appreciate having Ice-type Pokemon in their guild. For one thing, what would they do if they don't have an Ice Mage in their building? And another would be, even if they do have an Ice Mage, I'm not sure if a huge ice block will be enough to cool them all down. And even if it does, it will take up a lot of space. Snow Mages may be similar to Ice-type Pokemon in the regard that is shown, such as a certain pegasus boy had done at a certain game event, but as far as I know, he's the only snow mage we've seen so far.

Not only that, they meet Juvia's newly obtained Wartortle. While he's still suave around people, for some reason, he doesn't seem to get along with Amaura. I wonder why. ... He couldn't actually be over 1000 years old, could he? Wait, I think fossil Pokemon were alive much farther back... Eh, I'm sure you'll elaborate more on his action in later chapters.

After the meet and greet, we also have a battle at the guild, and a Double Battle at that. As the trainers and their Pokemon do battle, Shiin observes the latter group more, in which Vanessa had confronted to him about. The spy doesn't seem to understand at all about the bonds that can be forged between the two sides, then again, considering how things are before Pokemon arrived, I imagine many strong mages from his kingdom only got stronger from their own prowess; no need for someone else to come along and 'hold their hands'. If he or any of them had gone to PokeEarth or actually interact with Pokemon, they will see then how the bonds benefits both sides and not just one. Although... to think the guy didn't know Vanessa is Nic's sister. I thought he already knew that. He was the one who brought up the conference, no? Shouldn't he have known that fact?

Speaking of, in the middle of their conversation, you put Bakugan battle instead of Pokemon battle. Just thought you should know.

Now then, as for the Freaks' side, them people are out on a mission in search for missing mages and Pokemon. While they were on the quest, they met up with one persistent Kane, and his new addition, and his evolved Pokemon. As always, they found the guy (Well, Duncan wasn't with them at the time), but unlike the previous times, the person responsible for the disappearances showed up and got them under her control. All but Joey, whose hearing aids got messed up in the battle, and thus left him deaf and resistant to the magic. As he pretends to be another one of Siren's puppets, he gives Kane the nasty wet willy to wake the poor soul up, as well as team up with him to take down this songstress. ... All with a good jam at that. All's well ends well, as not only did they defeat the woman and her Brionne band, but Roggenrola and Tympole both evolved! Way to go to those little guys! Now if only we know what the latter is saying, even though he seemed to understand his teammates quite well.

And as for PokeEarth, Nic and Erza arrived in Tapu Lele's territory, she who looks forward to battling them and is unaware of their arrival to her land. The pair also met Olivia, who is getting along quite well with Erza. And as for a certain foundation in Alola, the president of that foundation has learned of a certain attack that occurred. How will this event play out...?

Looking forward to more!

Me: I hope they know what they're doing, because things are about to get messy if they don't do the right thing.
epicvictory2025 chapter 44 . 7/8
Alright. We got another chapter and I liked it for the most part. I'll get on with the fights first and than plot parts.

First off, the showdown between Nic and Erza vs Tapu Koko. Seems Tapu can't comprehend how humans can have such overwhelming power and be a real thing. And so, he's not willing to coperate and wants to take Nic and Erza down, despite not wanting to. Yet, Nic and Erza will fight if discussion isn't an option. While a bit short, I did enjoy the fight a bit. Though, I was expecting Tapu would've gotten more hits in and lasted longer against Nic and Erza. Though, Nic and Erza are being more pragmatic than extending their fight, since Nic used Mud Sport and Trick Room to turn the tides heavily. Even Arbok and Scizor joining in also helped ended the fight quickly. And yet, Nic still revived Tapu because he's not looking for a fight. Despite being revived, Koko retreated, likely not the last time they'll see each other.

Than Hala showed up and saw the aftermath and didn't seem happy that he challenges Erza to a duel. Quite an interesting matchup, Erza's Talonflame vs Hala's Crabominable. Despite the obvious type advantage for Talonflame (Fire and Flying against Ice and Fighting), Crabominable proved to be a rather intimidating adversary, especially when using the Fightinium Z All Out Pummeling. If it wasn't for Talonflame's Flying typing, that move would've easily beaten her but she manages to endure it and finish off Crabominable. After that, Nic had no choice but to wipe his mind and made him forget everything when he encountered them seeing Koko and the battle itself.

Well, as much as I understand Nic and Erza are trying to do what is right thing and not cause a panic... I kinda fear some of their actions, especially having Hala not being shared what they are doing for the greater good, may cause more problems than solving them. In fairness, Koko and Hala are just doing their roles as protectors and guardians of the respective island they live and they mistakenly see Nic and Erza as potential threats and intruders and doesn't help Nic and Erza could've been more reasonable at cooperating with them but what's done is done... hopefully, Erza and Nic should consider to be a bit more cooperative to not let them unintentionally label themselves as enemies despite they aren't, especially how Koko still sees them as a possible enemy and alerted the other guardians but Nic reviving him should help him see hints Nic isn't the enemy. Hopefully, this doesn't escalate any further when Nic and Erza want to help and not have potential allies fight each them and each other when the real enemy is out there. Still great fights.

Now onto the other parts. Just to make it short. Seems Nilhilego barely escaped but it seems Necrozma can communicate with them telepathically and he seems disappointed Symbiont has delayed the mission a bit and now it seems there's ANOTHER Symbiont that shows up... not good.

Also, cool to see Lusamine makes an appearance and Wicke which suggests Lusamine's kids may be in it too. Wonder what her role will be in this plot.

Than there's Shiin who further update the status of Fairy Tail and such... feeling his concern pokemon are taking over everyone's lives (Which are in fact not since they do no such thing are meant to bring be helpful and useful as much as possible for the benefit of everyone without taking away magic in the world of Fairy Tail). Than there's his encounter with that Butterfree... the same one that followed him from the start and he warned it to leave him alone... but I think that Butterfree sees something in him that makes it follow him. Hopefully, he sees the goodness in pokemon and makes him reconsider his view on pokemon.

Well that's my review and I hope things get good and tense next chatper.

thrawn92 chapter 44 . 7/6
So does this take place after the events of Sun/Moon? If so, I think it'd be cool to see Nic and Erza join forces with Elio and/or Selene. Heck, I'd like to see more pokemon protagonists make appearances.
Kallerston chapter 44 . 7/5
It’s been a while since the last chapter but at last, one has graced us. Let’s see where we left off.

The first third of this chapter is focused on the confrontation on the way to Melemele ruins featuring Nic Erza vs Tapu Koko and Erza vs Hala, both of which to me felt a little off. Specifically, both felt too one sided. This fight gave me a similar feeling I had to the one when I read Nic Charizard vs Naga and here it had a similar problem. Let’s hype up a big strong foe for Nic to face, only for him to make it look pathetic and weak in comparison to himself and his team. Sticking to game accuracy Tapu Koko has the moves: Discharge, Electro Ball, Agility and Nature’s Madness. A tough move set to work with since Nic’s Earth form grants immunity to its two most damaging moves but Agility could have been used to help deal with Nic’s immense speed and Nature’s Madness always doing half the current HP of an opponent could have dealt with Nic’s inhuman durability. In the actual fight however Tapu Koko’s main strategy is zipping all over the place and firing off attacks that Nic and Erza were able to neutralise while using their Pokémon as their main attackers. Mud Slap and Trick Room were good moves not often seen to counter Tapu Koko’s strengths however even without them, Tapu Koko doesn’t even get a single hit in and goes down in FOUR moves, one of which was primarily used to reduce accuracy. However, the Tapu Koko fight possesses a unique problem Naga's didn’t, we actually know Tapu Koko from the Pokémon franchise whereas Naga was an OC so where as his defeat felt weak, Tapu Koko’s kind of stings. Sure, Nic is at least upper Spriggan tier in terms of power and considering Tapu Koko can only electric terrain a small area while Ajeel who Nic trounced twice can whip up a city-wide sandstorm, one can make the argument that the deity didn’t have a chance in the first place, but I feel Tapu Koko should have put up more of a fight.
This unfortunately carries over to Hala as well, though not as extreme. In the games aside from being a Kahuna and thus the strongest trainer on Melemele, Hala was also an Elite Four member in the original Sun and Moon games. Not that Erza isn’t strong in her own right she’s at least on par with Vanessa who has beaten all 8 Kalos gym leaders but I feel Hala lacked that intense pressure, he was less of a threat and more an unfortunate inconvenience. The fight itself against Erza was short, with Erza relying on Talonflame’s speed and type advantage against Hala’s Crabrawler. Hala doesn’t hold up well and is forced to use his fighting type Z-Move in action, which compared to the other uses so far is far less of a spectacle. It does some big damage but not quite enough to take Talonflame out who is able to heal with Roost and take Crabrawaler down with Flare Blitz. With Crabrawaler down Erza apologises for not telling Hala about their mission and Nic puts him to sleep and erases his memories like he did with the Surfer Dude. Tapu Koko is then fully restored thanks to Nic giving him a Max Revive and he storms off in a huff.
Despite Nic and Erza’s apologies it feels hard for me to side with them especially since while misguided, Tapu Koko and Hala had legitimate reasons and motivations for fighting. I know Nic and Erza have a mission and I get that they can’t exactly tell the whole world about it. But Hala and Tapu Koko are the island guardians, I feel not only do they deserve to know but can help them out due to Alolan knowledge, influence and their strong battling abilities. And Nic and Erza didn’t give either of them a chance, deciding it was best to do things alone and fight back, a decision which will only make their relationship with the Tapu's more hostile. I don’t know, even if the forces did have to fight and Nic and Erza had to win for the sake of continuing the story, I feel like there was a better way of doing it that showed the Alola character's in a more authoritive presence.

The next 1/3 of the chapter is focused on the Aether Foundation, where we get our first look at the facility and Lusamine. I’m not exactly sure where in the Pokémon timeline this is considering how the only event, we know so far that’s happened is XY, but based on Lusamine’s last comment I assume the events of the game haven’t happened in this timeline. It makes me wonder whether Gladion, Lily and Nebby will become important parts to play in this story but aside from that we also meet up with two Aether Foundation employees doing nightly rounds on Route 10. The two are ambushed not only by the now named UB:01 Parasite but also a second parasite courtesy of their light obsessed leader who seems to have telepathic communication with the Ultra Beasts.

The final third is focused on two different scenes focusing primarily on exposition. The first is with Shiin writing another letter that gives a brief explanation of the primary members of Team Natsu minus Erza. Not too much is explained in these short bio’s that fans and readers of the story don’t already know, though I find it interesting that the only magic Shiin seems concerned about is Grey’s Devil Slayer magic. Other than that, he retrieves the items sent to him from the earlier chapter and is once again pestered by the Butterfree that has been following throughout Fiore.
The last scene is in the Tapu’s mindscape where Tapu Koko meets with the other Tapu’s including the first appearance of Bulu. Tapu Koko explains what happened with Nic and Erza, (although he leaves out Nic rescuing him and reviving him…) the Tapu’s are unconvinced until Tapu Lele shows the group Koko’s memories of Nic and Erza and are left shocked at their abilities. Their decided course of action is to leave them be for now but remain alert and agree to act if they start going to far, with all signs pointing to Bulu being the next one to confront them as the Parasites are on Ula’ula. The chapter ends with the Tapu’s leaving the meeting with Tapu Koko reflecting on his loss and saying that the next time he meets with Nic he’ll be sure he won’t lose again…although right now it’s hard to imagine that without some form of backup.

So yeah, I wouldn’t say I hate this chapter. The writing was fine, the slower paced scenes didn’t drag on for too long and the action was well written. But the fact that a large portion of this chapter is focused on two fights I wasn’t too fond of, doesn’t really do this chapter any favours. Still despite that I’m still looking forward to what’s coming next.
Coral the Leviathan chapter 44 . 7/4
Happy 4th of July indeed!

Wow... This is indeed a big misunderstanding... The Tapus are definitely going to be out for blood on Nic and Erza, especially Koko. As Fini said, he is clearly not one for patience. Lele... I can already see her having fun battling to care for their reason. Bulu... I imagine him taking a nap at some point and forgetting this. Then again, this is really important stuff. Fini, I can see her, being the most sensible and reasonable of the bunch, to possibly try to talk to Nic and Erza, find out what their reason was for arriving to their land. ... Only to be interrupted by some force. Speaking of force, those were some nice battles you sent up here.

In the Fairy Tail world, we see a certain spy getting an unwanted visit from the very Butterfree who's been around for quite a while. I imagine the guy will give in eventually upon realizing that Pokemon are friendly creatures and can be made at peace with, but that's going to take a long while.

On another note, we also get a Lusamine scene. And from the looks of it... this is her before the stuff in the game happens, or at least this is before she reconciles with her children. Either way, I worry about what will happen later on now that she's here. ... Are we also going to get the said two kids?

Not only her; we also have a scene of a certain someone/something seeking for their light. ... Now I don't know what or who to worry more about here.

Can't wait for more~!
TonyMon318 chapter 44 . 7/4
awesome update, and for Nic and Erza seeing a Z-Move first hand was cool but it looks like they may have made an enemy in Tapu koko and Aether Foundation are now here. Well Done.
Kallerston chapter 43 . 5/8
Apologies for the late review, let’s just get straight into this chapter.

The chapter starts in the Pergrande kingdom where an elderly grand captain is approached by a messenger delivering Shiin’s message from the previous chapter. The captain acknowledges Shiin’s requests and send him supplies while ominously commenting on the changing fate of the world and his wishes to stop it.

After that short glimpse, the story branches off into the Alola and Fairy Tail sides. Starting with Fairy Tail this chapter focuses a lot on Juvia. It’s a refreshing change to see Juvia on her own since after the first time skip of the series, she’s mainly just a companion to Gray. She coincidentally meets up with Sophie at the same pool where the two originally caught Marill and Araquanid back when they were Azuril and Dewpider respectively. The two are interrupted by a poisoned Wartortle who they quickly take to Porlyusica, who manages to treat his condition.
The Wartortle who is a smooth-talking gentleman explains that what he is looking for in life is a home, a place to belong, perhaps a person to be with. This strikes a chord with Juvia who thinks about if she had never met her darling Gray then would she still be the cold emotionless rain woman. However, the brief moment of thought is disturbed when a Fearow and later its flock of Spearow and the three begin to fight them off. It’s a good written wild encounter where the mages don’t just stand on the side-lines and actually participate, and Marill even manages to evolve into Azumarill and learns Play Rough in the process.
After achieving victory this leads to another battle between Wartortle and Juvia’s Vaporeon. Admittedly I felt this fight was a bit unnecessary to the chapter since it just came immediately after a long fight and doesn’t really do too much to stand out. The purpose of this fight however was to see if Juvia and her Pokémon felt like they had found purpose and after getting his answer, Wartortle goes to depart only for Juvia to make the offer that he joins her team which he gladly accepts giving her a new team member.

On the Alola side of things, a new day rises in the tropical region as Nic and Erza begin to investigate. They come across the scene from the previous night with the fisherman covered in a mysterious black ooze similar to the descriptions of Brandish, before heading to the nearby berry fields.
Later in an unknown field off the beaten path the Page Rider couple from the previous chapter have driven off into a ditch. Honestly, I didn’t really like seeing these two characters interact in this chapter, mainly the guy who was just a stereotypical meat head. But this does lead to the mysterious alien parasite taking a new host in the form of his ‘babe’ that goes mad and begins attacking the jeep.
The surfer dude ends up stumbling into the Berry Fields, injuring himself in the process. He tells Nic and Erza what happened and after leaving him in the care of the ranch owner, the two quickly run off to confront the beast.
The two soon confront the possessive creature and bring out Staraptor and Aegislash to fight alongside them. Unlike the other fight’s this chapter, this one was more defensive by focusing more on saving the hostage and keeping the creature contained. With Staraptor’s Double team distracting it, and Erza’s Aegislash drawing its attention, Nic is able to trap it with Telekinesis and put the hostage to sleep in much the same way the Alvarez group did previously. However, before they can question it, Erza is poisoned by Toxic Spikes, providing it a chance to escape. While Nic heals Erza’s condition and checks on the woman that was taken over, Tapu Koko shows up suspicious of the power emanating from Nic and Erza as well as the mysterious Z-Ring on Nic’s wrist.
Tapu Koko flies off when in reality he’s just observing Nic and Erza from behind the tree. Nic and Erza carry on their pursuit and arrive in Iki Town, the first major town you visit in the Sun and Moon games. They re-unit with Hala who informs them of the island guarding in question and the Z-Ring Nic acquired before the two and Tapu Koko head towards the Mahalo Trail.
Nic traps the beast with Whirlpool and is finally ready to get some answers…when Tapu Koko shows up and unintentionally frees the enemy, seeing Nic and Erza as the bigger fish to fry. The two forces are at an impass with Tapu Koko intolerant of Nic’s informal way of asking him for information rather than telling him what he asked, and Nic and Erza realising there’s no way Tapu Koko is going to calm down and hear them out. So, the chapter ends with Nic and Erza taking up forms well equipped to deal with electricity as they prepare to face off.

I found this chapter to be much quicker in pace than the previous two which I appreciate. There were a couple of nit-picks I had but for the most part it was pretty good. Juvia’s section featured some depth to her character and a new Pokémon joining the story. And the Alola section covered a lot of literal ground quickly, while also explaining more about Alola’s contributions to the franchise for those uninformed. Overall great work.
