Reviews for Blackened: The 12th Hunger Games
Pi chapter 40 . 6/24
Hi Paper, AmericanPi here! I hope you're doing well. I really apologize for not being the best reviewer, but I just wanted to drop by and say that you've been doing amazing with this story so far! You've been writing Luna and Solomon so well. I love how Luna is continuing to be sweet to everyone she can and trying her best to be positive. As for Solomon, I love how he doesn't trust anyone and is still struggling with his mental health issues causing him to not be the best person, but is trying his best to survive and protect Luna. The other arcs in this story have been great too, from Freyja putting up with Pilate's toxic masculinity to Eliora's toxic alliance to North's unconventional villainy (I know I was very critical of her and she still isn't my favorite tribute, but looking back it is surely interesting to see a young villain from D12). This is an awesome SYOT and I encourage you to keep going with it. Keep it up!
Guest chapter 40 . 3/2
Brooke2214 here, too lazy to long in, I guess I didn’t already leave a review for this chapter earlier? Thought I did. Anyway things are heating up. I honestly was caught off guard by Marg but that... yeah she wasn’t likely to get lucky with Pilate again. Good chapter!
later.glader chapter 40 . 2/15
Great chapter! I really liked how we heard from a lot of the tributes in this chapter.
Freyja and Pilate's interactions are always interesting and eventful and I think there'll be such a different dynamic in the whole arena when they split up or one of them dies. Bu damn Pilate was really ruthless when he killed Marguerite.
I liked Manisha's POV because it was refreshing to see an almost birdseye view of the arena. It was also useful for us that she's observant as we got to see a death in a clever and interesting way.
However, I feel like North may become a really important character since she found the sheet of paper but we'll see!
goldie031 chapter 40 . 12/20/2019
OK, a long-overdue review.

Poor Hana. I feel bad for her; she had so much potential and just has not had much luck with it. Although, I'm also not super worried about her, as she is smart. She just... got outsmarted by a little kid.

Pilate is just so egotistical. I would honestly be surprised at this point if he wins. And the way he treats Freyja? Not good, not good at all. I am excited to see him die, hopefully, and as much as Freyja frustrates me, I kind of want to see her kill him. It would be good for her.

Luna and Solomon have such a sad dynamic. I feel like either of them winning would be horrible for the other, but if you want a super angsty Victor, this would be the way to do it. The question is, is Solomon strong enough to carry Luna, and will Luna be able to live without Solomon?

Oh! North found the Terra paper! That plotline is gonna get interesting with her involved. As usual, I'm somewhat anti-North, and while I really don't know where I stand on the Terra-Eliora plotline, I hope North doesn't mess everything up.

OK so tbh I read this chapter way earlier and it was this scene from Manisha's POV that I read. I really like what you did with this section - give us a bit of Manisha development while at the same time furthering another fight. And MAN was this quite the fight! Well, fight is the wrong word. More like decapitation. I was rooting for Marguerite, but I think we all knew she couldn't win. Also, that little mention of Terra and Eliora... might the Capitol... urge them along a bit?

OH I forgot that Solomon didn't kill Tyrell! Does Luna think he did?

OK, now with this head business, there's no way Pilate is winning. And man, Freyja, don't fall in love with Pilate! There are lots of bad things still to come.

Great work! Congrates on getting into college and the inevitable upcoming senioritis, and I can't wait to read more!
HogwartsDreamer113 chapter 40 . 11/30/2019
Hana: Huh, I wonder who she'll find. Maybe Clay?
Pilate finally got what he wanted. I wonder what's next for him. I'm excited to find out.
Luna: Poor Luna. She's struggling with Sol's choices. I hope he doesn't do something she won't ever be able to forgive.
North found Terra's paper, interesting. I wonder how that will turn out.
Oof, that's a horrible thing for Manisha to witness. She's right though, she can't stay forgotten about forever.
Freyja: Oof, Pilate is brutal bringing back Marguerite's head. RIP Marguerite, she made it far and accomplished a lot, but it's realistic for her to die at this point.
66samvr chapter 40 . 11/29/2019
I am pretty sad Marguiete is gone, but she has to be the msot exciting 12 year-old I've seen in a while. her arc was just so exciting and she's very cunning and resourceful. I thought she'd escape Pilate once again, but that was starting ot get very stale, so I think this is a good place for her to finish.

Everyone else seems very quiet, almost like the calm before the storm. Hana either has really good or really bad luck; she's not dead, but she's not in a good position either. I am surprised North found Terra's note, but I wonder how it will be any use to her. Also surprised both twins are still alive, since I expected them to go a bit earlier. They're pretty lucky too.

Great chapter! Can't wait to see what happens next!
Platrium chapter 40 . 11/29/2019
Yay update! :3

As a Hunger Games enthusiast, Hana should've known earlier than this that luck will play a factor in the games. Luck plays a factor in a lot of things after all. I've seen enough of The Amazing Race to know that. I've had horrible groupmates to know bad luck, and I had to end up carrying the whole group. Sometimes, it's the right place but the wrong time. That's probably Hana's case. She is in the Hunger Games, but this year, she's up against very competent people. Even the 12-year-old that drugged her, which her district partner just decapitated, is competent! Conclusion: Not Hana's year to win like a piece of cake. I think she still can, but her struggle is very obvious with how the career pack and the other alliances turned out this year.

LOL. Blind rat from Six is an accurate first impression description of Tyrell. Pilate sure is a doozy when he first thought Marguerite is from Eleven but then realized she's from Ten. Does it matter? Nah, because he got her head. Omg. With it on Pilate's hands, I feel like something funny is gonna happen to it. Freyja's there too. The possibilities are pretty vast. I don't think the gamemakers will confiscate it, but they won't let him take it home if he wins. I think it'll end up disgusting opponents in a funny way. We'll see.

Speaking of the head's owner, – well, former owner – she did pretty well for a 12-year-old. She was very impressive! Can't remember what caused her and Hana to separate, because I still thought she was with Hana. Marguerite was very clever, and that got her far. She's super sneaky and she uses her head. Unfortunately for her, her time came because Pilate finally used his head too, literally. For once, he was right, so he can proudly give Freyja a raspberry, lol. Anyway, it was Marguerite's time. Her attack points aren't strong enough to match up to whoever is left at this point. Btw, you wrote her to be 11th but she's actually 12th. Still 11 left at this point. I'll definitely miss a memorable 12-year-old like Marguerite.

The Manisha POV was interesting. At least Pilate can't use his head to get Manisha down. Oh but then Manisha is forgotten. This is an advantage for her. She's killed, so I can't count her out as victor, but will she be? Too early for me to tell. I actually thought that Manisha has a chance of identifying the girl on the tree incorrectly, but at the same time I was also hoping for it not to be Marguerite. Again, I forgot how she separated with Hana. Oops. XD

The Sol and Luna arc is rising! I'm impressed that they've made it this far. I thought they would go much earlier. This conflict has been really interesting, and I wonder what's going to be the end for the first of them.

Plot twist! No, I wasn't expecting the sheet of paper to go North. I thought it was gone forever. Maybe this is hinting to North meeting with the girls fresh from retreat. That's one of my guesses for the meet ups next chapter. I'm also gonna guess Val with one or few of her foes and/or allies. It's probably gonna be like bloodbath 2.0: CRAZY! A crazy reunion. I think Manisha will stay with where she is for the next chapter. I wonder how high that building is with her getting a view of the whole arena. I'm impressed with this arena btw. I don't think anyone has been to a marshy swamp before? Wow!

Very important announcement? Hmmm... subs are opening for the sequel? Hmmm... O_O I know who I'm sending, but it's nerve-wracking to know that it's gonna be competitive again, probably even more competitive! You deserve that recognition though with all this wonderful writing. Anyway, can't wait for the announcement! XD

Good luck with college! :3
TheAmazingJAJ chapter 40 . 11/28/2019
omg that was such a good chapter you are still the one of the best storytellers i know

so hana found footprints? considering that pilate had his own action today, i will guess that it is clay and that we're gearing up for likely an overdue action scene between careers. will hana figure out what he did? i really hope not D: i love my boi v much and hope that he can make it to at least the top eight (pls don't place him in fifth tho i have too many fifth placers)

pilate had a fun time in the arena today! you are right, manisha is definitely one of the best people to narrate a scene such as marguerite's death, but it was also quite disturbing to see that he's brought her head back to freyja to use as a trophy. will the capitol be grossed out by this? possibly, but i'm interested to see how he progresses. i think that freyja is going to outlive him due to her being more likeable, but you never know - he could be a very good third-placing final villain for tributes or even second, although i doubt he has a chance at winning. manisha for victor wooooooo

luna! she is still a sweet gorl and deserves all of the love, although it's sad to see that the arena is tearing the two apart. it's very interesting to see how she's realizing that he's not the guy she thinks he is, although he's making a few strides to be better to her and protect her in the arena - it's going to culminate in a very sad death scene, although i have no idea who's going to die first. these poor siblings deserve more than the fates they're being set up for, although it's good to know that they're still there for each other - although how long they will be, we'll see soon :o

and north! i know that a lot of other people don't enjoy her and are waiting for her to die, but at this point i still enjoy her character and think that she's entertaining to see. she'll either go far or die really soon, depending if you want a young character to go far or just want to get rid of this secondary villain before getting into the really good stuff.

i am very excited to see how the remaining eleven do (you put 11th instead of 12th for Marguerite but no worries haha) so i will rank how they will finish in the story \o/

1st-3rd but only two because jaj is indecisive: Pilate, Manisha
3rd-6th: Clay, Hana, Terra, Freyja
7th-9th: Valentine, Luna, Eliora
10th-11th: North, Solomon

excited for what happens next! great writing as always, and wishing you luck in updating the story throughout college apps closing and such!
IVolunteerAsAuthor chapter 40 . 11/28/2019
PAPPPER I literally have slacked so hard on FanFiction recently but I’ve really enjoyed this story! Looking forward to the next update. Excited to see Val in the top 10.
HogwartsDreamer113 chapter 39 . 11/13/2019
Thank goodness fanfiction saves reviews, because I started this a long time ago, never finished, and it's still here.
Anyway, Whoo! Half way there!
I can't blame Clay for wanting to hide and not fight, but his district is definitely going to not see him favorably for that. It will be a tough road if he wins.
Manisha's arc continues! I wonder if she'll be able to kill again or if she'll crumble. I'm interested to see what happens with her next!
RIP Braxton. I'm not surprised Valentine killed him. She just tempted him too much and he fell for it.
Well, Marguerite's flower didn't kill Hana, but it definitely weakened her. I wonder if she'll be able to recover from trusting the wrong innocent-seeming 12 year old.
And Terra has told Eliora about the escape. I'm really curious to see how it plays out. Will it succeed? Will it fail because of Eliora? Will it fail even if Eliora cooperates? I love this plotline and I'm excited to see more!
CelticGames4 chapter 39 . 10/28/2019
Oh RIP Braxton.
Aw, Manisha, being angsty because nobody remembered her birthday, again. That's kind of sad. But also takei wasn't exactly a saint to her lol. She's getting into her own head too much.
Hana, wow, lol, really falling for it. If she dies it is kind of her fault. I wonder if she'll be able to make it back to the Cornucopia or not.
And Clay is just going to hide and ride it out. With all the shit that's stirring around, that may not be such a bad strategy.
I think Margeurite at this point has become too overpowered. She's clever, but if she wins, I'm going to be annoyed. Smarts can only take you so far.
Great work, can't wait for more. We are officially halfway there!
SunsetsandSmokebombs chapter 39 . 10/22/2019
Braxton out here getting treated like Medusa. Damn! Good to see Valentine still has some gas left in her.

Clay and Manisha are both in some harmful self-loathing states of mind. I struggle to call Manisha’s self-pity, because I don’t think it is, she’s showing genuine signs of depression and this has all taken a horrible toll on her. I feel bad. Clay’s dilemma, on the other hand, stems a lot more from the horror of impossible expectations, and perception, which is a different problem than Manisha’s, but still a real one.

Marguerite *already* giving Hana the slip. I actually googled Jimsonweed a bit after I reviewed last update and I was like “Yep, Hana’s kinda screwed” lol. I am immensely proud of Margy for surviving two deadly careers with the style points that she has, and I’m also LOVE the position that Hana is in, and am excited to see where she goes from here.

I think Terra’s kinda got a hopeless road trying to work with Eliora, and might’ve just messed everything up by sharing that info. I’m always down for surprises though.

Go at whatever pace you want! If it’s quicker than it would’ve been I’m cool with it because I’m on pins and needles about who the victor might be and I NEED to know how it ends.
Pi chapter 39 . 10/20/2019
Great chapter! Lots of great things happening here. Brax's death was awesome because it shows how delusional and obsessed with the idea of being good he's become. I could totally see Valentine killing him coming, but it was still a great death.

Keep it up!
66samvr chapter 39 . 10/20/2019
Clay's got a point in trying to survive but staying out of fights, even if he supposes it's the coward's way of approaching things. It's probably going to help him last longer.

I'm really liking Manisha's character arc, since she's becoming a more probable villain. She's stuck in a state of self-pity right now and I'm curious as to what she'll do next.

Rip Braxton. That was pretty stupid on his behalf, but some clever manipulation from Valentine right there. I was wondering where this alliance would head, since it seemed to be pretty unstable. But Braxton was too trusting and look what happened.

Jimsonweed! I knew Marguerite tricked Hana, but I'm surprised she left Hana alive and didn't flavour the water with a more fatal plant. That being said, it's possible Hana could meet her doom very soon, but I think she'll recover from the jimsonweed's ill effects, although whether or not she's in a good condition to fight is a different story.

I've always fussed Terra's plan to escape would go up in smoke and I don't think her sharing the news with Eliora is going to help. If the time comes, Eliora might betray Terra to escape by herself or their plan will be discovered and they'll have no way of getting out. This alliance is much like a roller coaster; sometimes, they get along. Other times, they don't.

This was a fun chapter and we're at the final 12 already! Keep up the amazing work!
later.glader chapter 39 . 10/20/2019
Nice chapter! Halfway through and I can’t predict a winner because all of them are more than capable of becoming victor!
Clay: Hmm, I can’t see the Capitol living his tactics, nor his district. Maybe it’s best for him if he doesn’t win because I’m sure his district will hurl abuse at him - at least for the first few years anyway. But I’m sure some drama will be thrown his way soon.
Manisha: Aww happy birthday girl! At least she hasn’t died on her birthday... yet XD Tbh I’m still surprised she’s made it this far but I’m super proud. She’s in a state of self pity at the moment but perhaps she’ll use it as fuel to prove everyone wrong.

Braxton: R.I.P. you crazy psycho XD He was such a great character to read and his arc was so interesting. But he was outsmarted in the end and lost himself. At least he died with a smile on his face and hopefully his death wasn’t too painful.

Marguerite: Ayyy, this girl should not have been underestimated and she’s proving that. Her plant knowledge has come in handy and really helped her. I’m sure she’ll be swarming in sponsor gifts soon! Still rooting for her!

Hana: I wonder if she’ll survive. My guess is that one of her allies will find her. I reckon she’ll bump into Clay. Which should be an interesting encounter XD I wonder what the Capitol make of her being duped.

Terra: Damn that was a risky risky move. The Capitol must be quite suspicious now but hopefully they can play it off well. Perhaps Eliora will be the key to starting the rebellion? I’m excited to see how this little sub plot turns out.

Can’t wait for the next chapter! :D
