That Christmas special did make me sad with the split up even with the fix at the end. Even later rewatching The Island of Lost Dakota realizing that Cavendish was still lived without Dakota's influence. So for you to have Dakota realized this and reflect on it was perfect.

On a fun note when future Block told to his present self he need for Dakota and Cavendish to be partners I think he just hated Dakota's singing and hope to prevent his singing career by preventing the spilt up.

Also I love the return of the small bed!
