I'm confused... The nuns didn't let Karl's relatives adopt him... because it was unfair to the other kids who didn't have a family?

Do they even know what a orphanage is? How it's supposed to work? Kids with no family stay there until they are adopted, either by some relatives or another family. What are they gonna do, prevent them from being adopted because not everyone has a blood relative to go with? Now THAT'S unfair.

Also, maybe I'm talking too soon, because I'm only at chapter 3,but... Will every situation in this fic basically be the original story, but with Karl instead of Tanya, or both of them doing the same thing? Because, frankly, that's just boring.

Why didn't you write this in third person? First person is probaby one of, if not the hardest way of storytelling. You need to truly show what the characters are feeling, not just what they're experiencing, which is all you did. Throughout the chapter, I could not see an instance where MC's showing emotions. Even when speaking to Being X, the way you wrote him makes it seem like he's detached. As if he's the reader, the writer and not the character himelf. It's really weird.
