This. Got dark. (In s good way)
The Merc/Em interactions were very brief, but surprisingly touching. I loved the ‘kindred survivors’ mentality.
Emerald’s suicidal tendencies came off as a bit out there, (You can’t survive as a “street rat” for long without a strong instinct to survive, even when you hate your life.) but it makes some sense in context with her entire support group killed.
Qrow adopting strays is adorable and his gruff, clearly uncomfortable “your just a kid” approach to it is perfect. You really had me thinking that this was going to be a redemption story.
That twist ending though. I’m in love with the idea of (Spoiler for Volume 5) Emerald waking from her coma as a maiden because that means that despite everything, Cinder really did care for her in her own way.

Overall, a great, sad story!

I like this one-shot and I also think that Ruby fakes being Innocent.

I'm not truly sure what I was expecting, but this was beautifully written. I loved that I could really feel Emerald's despair. Also, I wasn't expecting her to gain Cinder's power, but that's perfect! I really enjoyed reading this. Will add you to my alerts to make sure I don't miss anything you post!
