superlc529 chapter 26 . 6/10/2019 Miguel's introduction to Ernesto De La Cruz. I knew it had to be a school trip or something. There was no way his family would let him go to a monument for a musician. ;) And the birth of Hector's deals with Ceci. Hector is getting closer and closer to finally being reunited with his familia. ;) Nice update! :) |
superlc529 chapter 25 . 6/2/2019 Little Miguel's always had that musical rebellious spirit in him, it seems. I like the little detail that it was almost as if he could see the other Riveras (but not really). That was a nice touch. My heart goes out to Hector. Using his notebook as a memoir. Poor Hector. I wonder how many times Hector had to go see Ceci for disguises before the movie. ;) Great update! Keep up the good work! :) |
superlc529 chapter 24 . 5/27/2019 So great to see an update from you. Not gonna lie. I had to kinda skim a few chapters back to remind myself what last happened. Miguel's finally made an appearance! Love that Miguel seems to just have the music in him from birth. ;) My heart broke for our poor Hector with him being remembered more strongly and the hope that it meant his picture was put up... poor baby. Wonderful update! Keep up the good work! Hope you'll be able to post more soon. Seems like there aren't too many more years left before the events of the movie, but can't wait to see it. :) |
superlc529 chapter 23 . 11/19/2018 Enrique proposing to Luisa was so cute! And now we finally "know" why and how Hector wanted Cheech's femur. ;) Nice update! It was so nice to see a new chapter here. Great job. |
southernconstellation chapter 23 . 11/19/2018 Brilliant as always. I love how just last night I was looking at this story wistful for an update and here I wake to one. Can’t wait for another! |
Wowzas chapter 22 . 6/5/2018 I just bingeread the prequel and this fix and gosh! I'm upset for everyone in this situation right now! On one hand I really love the backstory you're giving to the living Riveras. It's so good and I love the way you slot the canon (and also lesbians) relationships into your story. It's interesting to read the family dynamic you give them in each chapter. It was really super cool to see the reason why Coco didn't share her father's stories. Not to sound like a creep, but it's also kind of cool to see how everyone dies in this story. On the other hand! Hector! He's so lonely I can feel it. I love the worldbuilding! I love how all he's tried to do since death is try to get home! (Also I really like how increasingly bizarre his schemes to get across are and that the guards know him now!) I feel bad for all the other Shantytown residents too because I love everyone in this story apparently. I also love the slow addition of all the other Rivera family members once they die. Imelda is characterised so wonderfully in this I love her so much! Like she has a reason to overreact and I understand why she feels the way she does. Not that I personally think you should destroy someone's belongings when you're mad, but I understand why. My favourite touch is that only she really interacts with Hector. It provides a reason for why Rosita didn't recognize Hector in the movie, at the beginning. And also I just love angst apparently. Thank you very much! I love your worldbuilding and I'm really excited to see where the rest of the story goes! Hope you update as soon as you can! |
ohmygiddyaunt chapter 22 . 4/22/2018 My heart is tired now from the squeezing. Made my eyes pop a little. (little cowboy, teeheehee!) |
superlc529 chapter 22 . 4/22/2018 So sweet with Julio and Berto and Abel's birth. I'm so happy that Julio got to see Abel born. :) Enrique and Luisa are so cute with their phone conversations. And we got to see Chelo's entrance into Shantytown. Hector probably has the record of being the longest running afterlife in Shantytown, unfortunately, huh? Wonderful update! :) PS: Loved Julio's reunion with his deceased family in the Land of the Dead. So sweet. |
southernconstellation chapter 21 . 4/13/2018 Another amazing chapter! Love the details. |
superlc529 chapter 21 . 4/13/2018 Shoes bringing together Enrique and Luisa. I thought that was gonna happen and it just made me smile. We're closing in on Papa Julio passing away, aren't we? So many feels. My heart once again broke for Hector. I had thought about how in the movie Rosita saw Hector being carted away and didn't recognize him (why would she?) and I wondered if he had ever been ahead of the rest of the Riveras in line in years past. I love that Imelda spotted him. Abel has gotta be born soon. He was an older teenager, right? Once again, a great update! We're getting close and closer to Miguel. :P I don't think it really hit me that we won't see him really until at least 2005 or so, but he's well worth the wait, eh? Especially since I can already imagine Coco secretly singing to her baby great-grandson. ;) Keep it up. Post more when you can! :) |
ohmygiddyaunt chapter 20 . 4/6/2018 So much perfect detail. The VW Bug and the crooked typewriter key and all of it. Hector foreshadowing Cheech's final appearance, ready to give up. All tied up in a neat package. *sigh* I love it. |
Ardoa88 chapter 20 . 4/6/2018 Aww that was so sweet! And Héctor no! He’s been broken... although it kind of makes sense that he would start viewing the afterlife as a sort of hell... still. So glad Victoria got her typewriter back :D |
southernconstellation chapter 20 . 4/6/2018 Another great chapter. I check my email every day for an update! |
superlc529 chapter 20 . 4/6/2018 Absolutely LOVE the parallel of Cheech coming to see Hector and Hector being annoyed to what we saw in the movie. Hector asking to borrow his guitar in the movie for Miguel is even more meaningful after seeing that. "No more music left in me." - Oh, Hector. My heart broke at that. I like how you had Berto and Carmen meet. That was cool. I really am curious to see when Abel is born and Rosa. And of course when Enrique meets Luisa... and then naturally a little while later to see Miguel as a cute little baby. I like the idea of Victoria being a writer and lugging a typewriter back home with her. Very nice. Wonderful update as per usual! :) |
Aalt-Jackal chapter 19 . 4/2/2018 Remarkable and ideally accurate novelization of a Coco Prequel. I adore how much this makes me grin and bawl, it's the right balance of angst with jovial goofiness and just makes me adore Hector ever more. But also maintains the respect and justification for Imelda's character, her flaws, without making the reader grate over her approach to everything following Hector's 'abandonment'. I can perceive an impression that Imelda has been mortally wounded by everything music represented to her and what was lost, and her feelings are misguided - it's complex - while at the same time maintaining the betrayal she felt when Hector never returned. Yet, it gives room for the reader to analyze without building a box around our perceptions. Also, how dare you make me feel such conflict! I can feel this steadily bubbling rift of anguish and rage that will eventually erupt onto Ernesto. No one can convince me Hector is capable of self-defense in the face of protecting his family. I swear, he'll destroy anyone what attempts to glare at his kids. |
