Aha, that casual mention of the cars that you slip in made me smile. Poor horsies. They're about to become so much fatter and lazy. Tehe! I wonder what they'd think of us all, if they could transport into modern America...probably that we're incredibly spoiled and richly pampered and that we've no practical sense. :P

One, I loved Gen with the horses. It's the kind of pettiness that comes from the book, as well as one of his canonical weaknesses, and it was also quite amusing.

Two, Costis's thought pattern, that the odd things only surround his king, was telling, insightful, and well put; and him deciding not to tell Attolis was on point.

I really enjoy your stories; I've only found one other author who can write this series well. I was really sad when Megan Whalen Turner had to delay the release of the last book till next year; but writing isn't exactly easy to keep on a schedule.

So, I've not read this series but your ability to get me hooked (pun not intended) on literally everything you write is astounding. Loved this and I'm looking forward to more members (associates?) awakening!

I was just thinking about this story! I'm so happy to see another chapter. I love every detail, from the statue to the horseless carriage to the fact that Costis died first (because I can't see him letting anyone past him to get at his king and queen).

I got into the Queen's Thief series solely so I could read these fanfics of yours. I was not disappointed.

This was great! I love how it's not just Gen now-he's awakening the crew. And forming a resistance makes perfect sense when the empire does have that sense of inevitability in the books. Really liked that line about Costis seeing blood, then firelight, then the golden cup in the hook-so appropriate! Thanks for writing!

I'm so glad that you continued this! Both Gen and Costis are completely in character, and I loved the way Costis immediately shifted to thinking of Gen as "my king" once he woke up/got his memories back. Is Gen going to be able to go back to working behind the scenes? I can see him revelling in anonymity again! So excited to see where you go with this!

I didn't know if you planned on continuing this. I'm so excited to see that you are! I love how Costis manages to be so true to character in his - reincarnation? amnesiac state? I can't wait to find out exactly what is going on! His first line after he remembers is pure gold. The last in the chapter is also fantastic. I don't have any doubt that Eugenides will manage to wear him down, either.

Please tell me you are extending this because it is FLAWLESS! It is cleverness worthy of Gen and I love it. When he said "she is far more beautiful" I LOST IT! I need a full blown story of the King Arthured Queen's Thief characters wreckin everything!

And then when he jumps! and she's so confident he's going to fall and he just reaches out. This is so brilliant because it could honestly be so many different things. Gen's a genius so he might have run a cable or something beforehand, or he might have honestly thought he could make it so he just jumped. Or he didn't think he was going to make it and he jumped anyways because he always jumps. Or he knew his God would help him.

This is so incredible and I love it! I hope you decide to continue because I have never seen this interpretation and now I need modern Irene and Helen and Sophos!
