Reviews for The Spirit of the River
elvanal2001 chapter 3 . 9/22/2019
A solid, entertaining fic, usually I don't read short fics but your writing style captivated me and convinced me to complete it.
What I find interesting is that u really have original ideas unlike other typical zelink prompts that are used way too oftenKeep it up 3

(It is just me again, I wanted to say that when I wished you good luck, it was for all your other sories to come if you ever do others stories again, because it was incredible. This end is really amazing. ).
Guest chapter 3 . 11/14/2018
Woah, it was so awesome ! I really love this story, and your writing style, as well as how good you wrote the characters ! :-) I especially loved the part where we see young Mipha and Sidon, and Link's life in the Zora domain.
I encourage you to continue like this because it is awesome ! Good luck !

Okay, so this review is pretty late, but I just wanted to leave my thoughts on this chapter.

So, I absolutely loved the way you described the surroundings. I haven't played LoZ games in a very long time, so the descriptions of the setting were really nice. It really set the mood.

But damn, there was a lot of action in this chapter. I liked the exciting beginning, but it was a bit weird (for me) for it to kind of slow down near the middle, but maybe it was just me. I still think it was well-written, I'm just not used to that kind of writing.
But man, you really like ending your chapters on a suspenseful note. Reading the last line really upped the pressure and emotion since I could feel how much Zelda cared for her mother, and she seemed absolutely devastated and enraged at her mother's death.
Miry176 chapter 2 . 6/21/2018
Earlier irl I said the feels rushed thing (more focusedly around the characterisation tho) and how I like how Hylians are "uninvited" for having been involved with the Calamity (it's such a fresh take on the "Hylians are the mains" in the Hyrule world yay).
Even if some things seem "rushed" this chapter doesn't feel like a sudden contrast against the prior one, the rhythm is steady even if the plot went through a lot earlier, which is a good thing it feels planned (I still would slow down the dialogue during the main points). I wanna see what Link is hiding but now we know Urbosa is dead and Link is going to die, yikes. Also, what will Zelda's power bring with it? Will it be good or evil~? She having powers in such a strange setting leaves for so many speculations as on what that means... So yeap i'm looking forward to where you take this~

Also I reread it and they don't seem to do more than kiss, U Lied To Me.
Low-key Loki chapter 2 . 5/25/2018
This is pretty weird...

It’s not bad by any means, it’s actially well written but I guess the alienation stems from my lack of knowledge on those creepy entertainers.
Miry176 chapter 1 . 1/30/2018
THE SPIRIT OF THE RIVER

Mmm! I like how she looks at the sky with those "reflective eyes" (you call them this a bit later but I think it applies here too) in the first flashback... It makes her seem so mysterious and kinda... scary...? Not like a human... "Sempiternal"... Were you alluding to her divine blood...? If so, nice move (and if it isn't so then nice as well lol)

In the teahouse:
The atmosphere and characters, their robes... I can feel you did your research on it! Everything about the details and their behaviour seems really on point even if I don't know a lot about Japanese/geisha culture in this context.
I like how you characterise Sidon as this guy who just talks too much and fools around (or at least how Urbosa and Zelda perceive him lol), it feels like all the fandom idolatrates him and it was really refreshing to picture.

Zelda is brought outside by Urbosa and then talks to Link:
(When Urbosa goes away it looks so cool but not even a "see you later" lol? It feels weird in a way...)
"Why haven't I ever seen or heard of you before?" "I'm not sure… Because the world is a big place?" Pfffffft... This conversation only opens more questions than answers; like where has Link been in and if the interest is actually mutual... This scene was sweet but I couldn't shake the feeling that Link was lying about something or how much was she acting...

Zelda wanders around the garden:
"Sopping wet, Zelda sauntered through the gardens, bare feet arching to cool stone and damp dirt, under cherry trees, among bushes and flowers that she brushed with chalk-stained fingers as she passed by – until she came to the edge where the gardens ended and the forest began." I repeat: I love the aesthetic here and in this scene in general since Link left... It feels so adventurous and purifying and just the start of Zelda discovering who she really is. Also was she going to try to run away before seeing Link...?
And I think you already know what I think abt the "That's Link!" part... Imo it breaks the mood and I think just mentioning her name later looks more subtle and being more in tune with Link's stealthiness. (Also wouldn't a dagger be in a sheath if it's on her side...? How can it glimmer?)

Mmm I'm not sure how to give my opinion on characterisation, not a lot has been shown... Zelda's determination, strength and cynicism seem hers (and her excitement to seeing the outside world! I think she liked exploring the ruins in the game, didn't she? Aaaa~) and Urbosa's mother-like kindness is like she is in the game... Oh, and I already said how I like your chaotic good Sidon... I want to know more about your Link tho! What is she planning and what were her thoughts when seeing Zelda for the first time and if she had already planned meeting her and where does she come from and how much is she hiding
(Oh btw are the Hyrule races humanized versions of themselves or just like in canon...? You didn't describe them much...?)

So much mystery... Aaa I'm hoping to see more of it, this chapter left me really intrigued and this story could go anywhere... but ofc don't force yourself if you're tired from real life
Lilyanna32 chapter 1 . 1/8/2018
This is the most unique fanfic I've ever read. I'm curious about Link and whether Zelda is right about what she thinks but knows she has to be wrong. I'm a bit confused of your use of the word "they" even though I think I might get it, like you mean "they" instead of "his"or "her" somehow to be vague? I like the way you are portraying the characters. The ending really made me want to read more, please update!
dragonlover89 chapter 1 . 12/31/2017
Ohoho~ The starting paragraphs of this fic certainly has me intrigued. Truth be told, I don't remember much from the Legend of Zelda, and I don't usually read fics from this fandom, but this fic seems very intriguing.

I'm not going to be able to comment much on regards to canon since I haven't really been up-to-date on Breath of the Wild, but I do really enjoy reading the interactions between Zelda and Link, as well as your descriptions.
For example, I felt that Zelda's reactions to Link were very realistic. After all, Zelda hasn't seen another Hylian before, much less another Hylian Geisha. Zelda's curiosity and fascination, that couldn't be completely quenched despite her training as a geisha, is just so endearing and interesting. As a character in this fic, I'm interested to see how she'll grow, especially after meeting Link.

(That cliffhanger tho.) There are so many possibilities as to what Link could be doing. Is she trying to protect someone? Kill someone? Who knows?

Anyways, this fic has certainly caught my interest, though I'm not very active as a LoZ fan... But good job~
