I would have made Chief commander of the UNSC's ground forces if I thought he'd accept, FanFic or if I actually lived in Halo. Captain seems fine. Guy's done a lot for it.

My sympathies for your personal life, on the past and the present, but I must confess your past will certainly aid you. Harsh, and I apologize, but it'll become a boon in your writing for John. Silver lining? I do wish you goodluck in changing that status, should that be your preference. If not, cool beans.

As for the edginess, that's practically a given. I come from a big military family. My cousin spent a collective five years in the 00's in the Middle East. I remember one particular leave, he was little more than a drone: he didn't know how to act in social circumstances anymore. He just existed. Right up until someone told him what to do, then he was a machine. No matter how benign or sarcastic the order, it was done to perfection. And once completed, he just looked lost.

After his next tour, we were worried he'd revert to the same. And he would have, had it not been for his niece. She'd developed that typical, bossy attitude while he was away. And she found the perfect minion in him.
At first he was doing everything she ordered as he used to. But children change their minds faster than they eat candy, and her doing so started wearing on him.
They eventually had a standoff over the "proper" way to set a birthday party for her stuffed animals. It ended with the first smile any of us had seen on him in 8 years.

He's married with a kid now, a decade later, and she's pursuing multiple degrees in psychology.

And now that the physical war is over, politics erupt to begin another. Yay.

Again, late, but my thought:

The Citadel Council must've been on something, particularly the Asari, if they thought the AUR would be eager to join UNDER their banner. By the goddess (giggity) would the Asari people have ever bowed to a technologically inferior species or conglomerate? Hell no. Why in the heavens would she have thought anyone else would? Especially after it was confirmed that the "technology" they were provided in exchange for non-interference was heavily outdated.

The real questions are going to start cropping up soon:
A) This is nearly 400 years after the canonical events of ME; are the Rachni still alive? Will the surviving queen be pointed towards the "invaders"? Considering the Krogan will likely be allying themselves with the AUR, will the Rachni queen be informed of which race was responsible for their near-extinction?
B) The Geth: similar question; how will they be approached, if at all? Will the Council attempt to sway them? As it's been foreshadowed that the Quarians will at least be approached by the AUR, if not vice versa, will that be enough "encouragement" for them to aggressively war with the newcomers?
C) When will some bored or happy-go-lucky AUR engineer hack into a Keeper on the Citadel? Are there teams scanning the hidden and unseen systems that the Citadel residents are unaware of?
D) Who lights the match, and how? Humans aren't known to be conquerors, or the Citadel would've already been taken. It's obvious that, at least, the Three Great Races will begin militant buildup. Yet, no aggression has been made by any AUR that wasn't invited, such as these Council meetings. Who fires first?

This is way late, but if my knowledge of physics, crossed with knowledge of Mass Effect physics, is accurate; you are correct in your assumption.
The amount of damage taken, though, remains debatable. A certain amount of creative licensing leeway is easily given. A ME FTL Drive exploding has, to my current knowledge, unknown consequences. I doubt the ship, even at that velocity, would've done enough damage to break the shields. But with the addition of an exploding drive, minus the mass it provides... ehhh.

It's still a great idea, even if the consequences are up for debate. Very clever. A great all-in move

Nice chapter. I have read stories where MC was promoted and I usually was fine with it, but Spartans are Navy Special Forces and use Navy ranks so MC having a 'two silver bars' insignia is a Lieutenant(LT) not a Captain that would be Army, Marines, and Air Force.

Hay man I know the feeling of chapters taking forever in my own writing on another site so thanks for the update happy New year and reminding me to finish the chapter I has spent almost a year on and the others I spent more on.

I hope the UEG gets neutral.

Well man this is just an awesome story with many good elements and stuff. Especially with a powerful coalition of races that can bring the reapers in line.

And humanity as the reclaimers would be compassionate therefore being obligated to help.
