I am doing something similar like this, but it is a Danny Phantom and Star vs the Forces of Evil crossover and in it Danny replaces Marco. I am also writing episodes from both shows so please check it out whenever you have the chance. I would love for you to read it.

Deceptive Vlad. Make him try to seem nice to Dipper than Dipper realizing his true interests. Also... IM NIT GUNNA LIE DIPPER/DANNY IS MY SHIP! Ok I’m cool now. Also make it so that the teens don’t know Danny’s a ghost just that he got overshadowed but Mable, Wendy, and Dipper know... that’s my ideas!

This is awesome! It addresses a lot of stuff that I've seen missed before and it's an interesting read. Also I think that you should go for what feels right to you with Vlad! This is your story and you getting a choice in how you want Vlad to act will be the best I think!

Add a villain of Vlad, then as the story goes on, he changes to a caring Vlad (read the comic "Archetype" on deviantart, a Danny Phantom, 400 paged comic. Trust me, if u seen it...which I binge read it all in one day... I think you may be inspired to do the mix of Vlad)

Personally, I'd do that for character development, and the Archetype comic made me feel bad for Vlad. In the ep, The Ultimate Enemy, when that incudent happend... Was Vlad really that villainous in that? I dont quite remember frankly.
Maybe he'd be a villain at first since Maddie is gone and blames Danny? Idk... Driven by extreme sadness and stuff, he'd pretty much be villainous for a while... Then he starts to sympathize since Danny lost his family AND his friends, so he knows the feeling too...

I think a mix of both actually, like Vlad has been a villain for so long it has become his way of life. He isn't used to being good and will probably cut corners for the rest of his life. Not to mention his jealousy of wanting to become king and Danny being King instead. It mostly depends on what you think his obsession is. If you think it's Maddie and Danny then it would be straight villain. I personally believe his obsession is wanting to be loved. As he tried to by Maddies love with money and then Danny's as well. I think he wants to be seen as family but his human personally is getting in the way if his own obsession. So I vote for both a Vlad who wants that family at all cost.
