Wonderful story

It warms the heart. Touched me inexplicably like few other stories have.

Hey! Thanks for pointing me towards this fic. You do a great job fleshing out minor characters, making the reader think through their perspective. It's clear how much the Mechanist loves Teo. (Which is obvious, but something I've never actively thought about before.) And despite all the horrible things that have happened to him, his will to face his fears and make choices in his son's best interests. The line about him working for the Fire Nation because of Teo (for Teo) really struck a chord with me.

Admittedly, the first section was a little difficult for me to understand because I confused the two scenes. Reading it a second time, I understood it. A little more description about differentiating them immediately could have helped, but maybe I just had a dumb moment and didn't understand the obvious.

I understand why you like this story a lot. You should be proud of it! I too really like gen stories that are character studies or worldbuilding, but unfortunately they are not as common. Hopefully this is the type of review you (and this story) deserve. Keep writing!

Seriously blown away by the way you fleshed out the Mechanist's fears and made him so... relatable? Human? The vulnerability in the way the Mechanist prioritizes Teo's happiness over his personal fears gets me right in the feels. Cool inspiration with Icarus for this fic, too. Bowing down to the master of angst! :)
