JustTooPink chapter 1 . 6/18/2019 Awesome! You are a really talented writer! |
Guest chapter 1 . 11/19/2018 You definitely should branch out into JE fanfic too. |
Chronicles of Lewis chapter 1 . 5/12/2018 This was a fun read. I can tell that you had some fun and thoughtfulness in writing it too. There are some strong similarities between JE and TSOM, except that there really was a young governess named Maria who was brought in to teach the sickly young daughter of a wealthy baron and war hero captain, who fell in love with the teacher and offered her a marriage that had inspired the musical play. The dynamics of the characters backgrounds and the intensity of their restrained passionate nature is also very similar. *However, I am glad that the children's mother Agathe is not a mad woman hidden away in the attack in this version* Thanks for writing this mash-up of two stories. It was amusing. |
ThePoorDidntWantThisOne chapter 1 . 11/6/2017 Okay...is it wrong that I now want a Jane Eyre/SOM hybrid story...a delicious little Georg/Mr. Rochester sandwich (but without all the annoying whistles, pesky relatives, and blindness...) I loved this. It was a delight from start to finish. And I am sorry to have to admit that I truly didn't realize until the "old crone" started telling that last bit of fortune what was going on. You had me fooled for quite a bit :) As soon as he told her she need only "...stretch out her hand to take it." I was cheering for her to do just that. Reach out and strip him of his disguise the way he was stripping her feelings bare and laying them at her feet. And I would have loved to have heard what the Captain said to the Baroness...Love that you left that little mystery up to our imaginations. Wonderful! Thank you for sharing this! |
Lauryn Vi chapter 1 . 10/28/2017 This story has me smiling from ear to ear. What an endearing read! Loved the inspiration (although it’s been years since I read Jane Eyre), and your execution was so cleverly done. I thought Maria was particularly sassy here (refreshingly so!) Thank you for lifting my overworked spirits with this piece! |
UndoubtedlyTheWine chapter 1 . 10/28/2017 This was hilarious! I haven't read "Jane Eyre" but I surmised that the old crone was none other than georg. This was so much fun to read :D I loved the end as well... how Maria still didn't realise that it was Georg. Amazing one! |
charleybec chapter 1 . 10/25/2017 It’s taken me a few days to get around to reading this as I’ve been horribly trapped under a pile of exams coming reports but this was fantastic. I’ve always loved Jane Eyre (the Timothy Dalton version in particular) and my absolute favourite scene was always this one and I had always really loved Mr Rochester’s reveal to Jane (and I even went and found it on YouTube to rewatch that scene after I read your story! Lol) I must admit, I was a bit disappointed that there wasn’t the same reveal of Georg as the crone to Maria although I do like how you left her wondering and not knowing but almost knowing it was him all along. Great job! |
thoughts-of-joy-dreams-of-love chapter 1 . 10/24/2017 Love it! I read Jane Eyre recently, and definitely noticed parallels to TSOM. It's really cool to see the fortune-teller scene reworked in this story! I love how Georg has Maria and her feelings all figured out, even before she does. And she's perfectly in-character as well. You always write G and M wonderfully! |
gothicbutterfly95 chapter 1 . 10/24/2017 And guess what was in the parcel that arrived on my doorstep this morning... Obviously I haven't had time to read it yet, and I've never seen the movie, but it was fanfiction for TSOM that piqued my interest in Jane Eyre. So I can definitely see myself re-reading this once the book is off my TBR pile. Onto the story, Love Georg shooting down Elsa's insistence that the children disappear for the party, and requesting that there be a trial run with the older ones to convince her. And Georg just happened to be away when the fortune teller arrived. Interesting... The way she cycled through everyone was great, and I loved everybody's reactions. Especially the way Maria interrupted when she thought it was something the girl's shouldn't hear. Her skepticism and disinterest were spot-on and the way she tried to not let it get to her was perfect. Which is probably why it ended up getting to her as much as it did. The notion that she can't get the fortune she deserves, and that she also won't get the fortune she thinks she wants is great. And Maxie just happens to appear once it's all over and done with. Interesting... |
indigobluewriter chapter 1 . 10/23/2017 Wonderful! I really enjoyed this, love a bit of mystery! I thought you kept up the sinister tension beautifully, and I was racing through it to find out what happened next...How odd that Jane Eyre features in my story too! Thanks, Anne |
LK chapter 1 . 10/23/2017 LMAO! This story was so confusing at first becaue I don't know Jane Eyre. But then I read the reviews and read the story again a few times and figured it out. I nearly p'ed myself laughing over Georg as the old crone. Great story. |
jennifer.willing chapter 1 . 10/23/2017 Oh this is fantastic! How ingenious of Georg to find this way of letting Elsa know that she isn't the one, and Maria - that she IS! Maria suspects that the fortune teller is Georg in disguise? And Franz! Has he been in the know all along or has he just realised and is totally rattled by the situation? If you decide to continue I'll adore it - if not, it's fine to leave it as it is. Brilliant! |
INeverExplainAnything chapter 1 . 10/22/2017 I wish you could insert emoticons onto reviews sometimes. Or at least a picture of one of those wacky waving inflatable arm dudes that always seem to have a car dealerships, because that expresses my excitement for this story better than I could but I shall try! I love Jane Eyre. I also watched pretty much every version of Jane Eyre around the same time as my strong love for TSOM was rekindled. My favourite is the BBC version with Toby Stephens. Anyway, not the point! I have wanted to write a story like this but have been way too scared and now I don't need to because this was just brilliant. This was just so well done and I would LOVE to see another chapter where Maria finds out - or works it out because she is already pretty suspicious and she's a smart gal. But my favourite part was the line "your mouth - that mouth!" Guh! Of course you think it should be kissed thoroughly. I could go on and on and on about how much I loved this but I think everyone else has already said it - and far better than I can. This was just wonderful. |
Miss Darling Julie chapter 1 . 10/22/2017 Who on earth was that woman? But I do hope she sttuck enough curiosity into Maria to not leave the party... or have something happen for Georg to go after her. Anyway: interesting set-up. Looking forward to seeing more, as always. |
