RoryCullen chapter 36 . 7/12 Really enjoyed this chapter. So glad it is Edward and Washington himself as well as several of their army who have landed at the Cullen household rather than the redcoats. I look forward to reading conversations between General Washington and Edward and Isabella in the next chapter, should that be something you plan to include. I must say I was taken off guard by the reading of the Declaration of Independence in the last chapter, thinking this meant the war was over and United States was born but later I read that the British were actually winning the war and had the colonialists on the run. I don’t understand why July 4th 1776 is hailed as the birthday of your nation when the war was not yet won and really could have gone the other way. But that was not to be and Right prevailed thank goodness. Riveting, your story is; I can’t wait to read more. |
RoryCullen chapter 35 . 7/12 So unexpected...the war is over and Edward must be coming home. I guess Charlie will return to England...or will he remain for his daughter and grand children? I was surprised to read in this chapter that their cause had been achieved, ratified I guess. I didn’t realize how close to the end we were (I’m not American, this the year did not stand out for me.) Hope Edward and all the boys are well. I hope Alice got to meet Jasper when Edward delivered Isabella’s letter to her. |
RoryCullen chapter 34 . 7/12 I can imagine how frightening this news from Charlie must be. Should everything he says come to pass it would be best if he could sneak Bella and Edward and baby-Edward out of the country somehow, they could not remain. Of course I know that history shows a different ending to the colonial war, but they don’t know that yet. Such dire and scary times; I don’t think I would be able to handle the situation at all well. |
acechica chapter 36 . 7/1 You’ve done an amazing job with this story, as you normally do with any story. As a Virginian, who lives near Yorktown, I’m truly enjoying the history you are sharing. I’m hoping that you may be renewed in your motivation by, if not my review, then by Hamilton being released Friday on Disney. Please update soon! |
Nissa-Cullen chapter 36 . 6/28 This is why they need to wear some type of identification so that Bella won’t think they’re the wrong side and try to send them away. Hopefully she’ll be able to explain it away with no issues for Edward. Where did Carlisle get off to? |
asam75 chapter 36 . 5/22 I love the research you put into this story and avidly read each history lesson. Thanks. |
Cullenosopy chapter 36 . 5/13 This old sap got emotional when GW showed up at Bella's door. I appreciate the history lesson. Thank you! |
Guest chapter 36 . 5/4 Also, am I the only one hoping Hamilton is there?! :) |
Guest chapter 36 . 5/4 I’ve re read this, and I love it. But man, everyone’s nostrils seem to flare.. a lot. Haha! But I really do love this Edward :) and I’m excited for more! |
Evelyne-raconte chapter 36 . 5/6 Thank you for an other wonderful chapter. I always like when you write some historic lesson at the end. Being French, I'm not great on American History, but I like to learn more of it. |
Eternally Addicted chapter 36 . 5/5 Ahh Cornwallis, don't know much about him except what I've seen in the movie The Patriot. He was a bit of a pompous ass in it. I am so very glad it turned out that the men seeking shelter were sent by Edward. I've read about to many tales of the Red Coats just helping themselves to whatever they wanted or destroying it for not being loyal to the king. Hoping that just maybe Edward has returned home just in time to see his second child born, as he did with their son. Things are certainly intensifying. I hope that they will begin to turn our way soon. Can't wait for more! |
L Christine chapter 36 . 5/5 HI! I know, that was an excited opening but...THIS is an exciting story...for me lol. I found it completely by accident because...I think I was adding ALL of your stories as favorites after I had read one of them and fallen in love with the writing...not sure which one but I need to print it out and frame it in gold for leading me to Uprising. Okay, enough of the dramatics and let's get down to it. I am OBSESSED with history (and yes, Twilight...obviously) and the Revolutionary War has always been a favorite era of mine so CAN YOU IMAGINE how THRILLED I was when I found this story? I've been pretty useless as I've tried to catch up with it. And I can neither confirm nor deny the amount of times I have re-read it...in it's entirety. That's between me and God Above lol. (And you maybe, I guess, if the site tells you how many hits you get? They're probably mostly me...I'm just sayin'.) So. About this chapter. I have MANY things to say, however, I would like to start with...I am SO GLAD Alice is free! That was one part of this story that was hurting my heart so deeply was how trapped that poor girl was, and I *fully* understand she was turning lemons into lemonade by spying on John for the rebels and passing along whatever information that she could and still keeping up as much of her work as she could for the Cause-I *TRULY* respect her greatly. But since you wrote Jasper as a bachelor, and I am ALL about canon couples, I wanted those two together SO badly-and knowing as I do that John Andre doesn't die until 1780 (and we will get back to JUST how happy it makes me that you are writing this story as historically accurate as you possibly can) I knew that meant she could be stuck until then. HOWEVER. Then, I read her letter. And she could NOT have POSSIBLY mentioned "Lieutenant Whitlock" more times than she did lol. I feel like she was constantly mentioning him, and it gave me so much hope that something might be developing between them. Although how she was able to get ANYWHERE near Jasper with her chaperone so "generously" provided for her by Major Swan is beyond me. Him I'd like to see run through and fed to the starving people of Boston-though they probably wouldn't even eat him, he's so rotten. Charlie (I'm just going to refer to him that way because it makes me want to choke him less) is someone I am conflicted about in this story. Part of me hopes he'll come around and stop being such a dunderhead (as Rosalie would politely say) and switch sides to the Patriot Cause, but in all honesty I don't see it happening. He's too stubborn, he's too set in his ways and he's too sure that he's right. Even though it means that he's now lost his daughter and his grandchildren, even though I'm not sure if he knows Isabella is expecting again, I don't know that he would ever abandon King and Country. The ONLY way I could see him EVER doing something like that, and I do mean EVER, is if there was a DIRECT threat to Isabella and/or her family. And I guess time will tell if that ever comes to pass. Now, when he mentions that Alice disappeared two days ago all I could do was shout "She got out! She got out!" and wonder if, indeed, she is somewhere with Jasper. And that, of course, set my mind whirling. Because I know in her letter she mentioned that John was on his way home as she was writing, and what would be SO dire at that moment that would necessitate her having to leave then as opposed to months ago? So, again, keep in mind that I'm spitballing here so it's not all going to be gold lol but...is she expecting with Jasper? Was she afraid her husband was going to find out when he got home? Is she not expecting at all, or not even with Jasper at all and maybe the Patriots are just planning something that she's a part of, or working on? Were things getting dangerous for her in her hours and she felt like she HAD to leave for her own safety? Where did she go? Where is she? I feel like she can't go to Isabella's, as much as I would *LOVE* for her to, only because wouldn't that be the most likely place for Charlie to look for Alice? Wouldn't he figure she'd just run there? I mean, I guess Alice could probably go there and be safe (Edward IS a smuggler so there's probably PLENTY of hiding places on his land, evidenced by the fact that they hid armaments there for what, 2 weeks) plus there's plenty of men there that would protect her (ESPECIALLY if she's WITH Jasper, and even if she wasn't she's still a fellow Patriot) so I guess I have to wait for all to be revealed on that front. Moving onto the unexpected visitors-WOW. Now, I was not alive back in 1776 (clearly lol) however I can imagine that a strange man, or group of men showing up at my door after dark in the middle of a war NOT telling me who they are, but that they want entry into my home and to stay the night in my home would...um...scare the ever loving hell out of me. So, in my brain when I read those first beginning parts all I could do was scream at the screen "Just tell her you're with Captain Cullen! She won't give you an issue if you tell her that her husband is with you!" SERIOUSLY. I don't know if this Harrison person was historical or not but was he SLOW? He CLEARLY noticed she was expecting, very HEAVILY expecting, and when he looked past her he no doubt saw Edward George, did he not think it would be a good idea to tell her who they were?! I don't blame her AT ALL for giving them attitude, and actually the funny thing is, with the way she spoke to them I kind of feel like she may have impressed General Washington. Although, I don't know how much of the exchange he heard...and where was Carlisle during all of this? Didn't he ride out to see who the soldiers were? Why didn't he come back in with them? Or maybe he did with Edward and we just haven't gotten to that part of the story yet. I really hope Emmett has come back with them, for Rosalie's sake. And I know it is an accepted Twilight "fact" it just makes me sad that Rosalie hasn't had her own babies yet. I know I'm a hopeless fool sometimes, but I'm still going to hold out hope for her and Emmett. Even if they have to "adopt". Maybe something awful will happen to Katrina and they'll end up with her baby or babies. I know that is terribly mean-spirited, I promise I am NOT ACTUALLY like that, it's just in the context of this story because of everything she has done...most especially when she left Isabella to die in the snow. If Edward hadn't found her, she and Edward George would have frozen to death. And as glad as I am that I haven't had to hear about her in the last couple of chapters, for some reason, I feel like I haven't heard the last of her-or James. That's another one that I know is just trouble with a capital T. Now...for the next chapter. I would SO love it if Isabella could have her baby while Edward was home. I know that is wishful thinking, I know, but he missed this ENTIRE pregnancy-literally JUST found out she was expecting, and he's only home for this ONE night and then he's going to be gone again for goodness only knows how long. It would break my heart into pieces if he missed the birth of this child. Unless Washington allows him to stay with her until she delivers, like he did the last time. I think he sent Edward and Emmett back home so Edward could be there for the birth and then was able to stay for 2 weeks after? Even though I'm sure in reality it probably happened ALL THE TIME back then, it would just make me sad for this story-and why have them be there now when she's SO close to delivering? Maybe they'll have some hanky-panky and her water will break lmao. I do have a question though. Are Jacob and Leah married in this story? I know that Edward mentioned once that Jacob has been in love with Leah since...I don't know, time started or something...but I'm not entirely clear on whether they're actually married? And if they're not, why not? I feel like I have so much more that I want to say but this review is already so very long you're probably damning me to Hell lol. Anyway. I can NOT wait until the next chapter! |
Leslie E chapter 36 . 5/2 Love this story and your history lessons at the end ! Hope Alice makes it to Bella (I'm sure that is where she will be headed with the undoubted help of Lt. Whitlock . ) Keep up the great work and stay safe ! |
