Yes, even I thought it was a crazy overreaction by Nico, and I wrote it. The reason I went with it is, Nico’s just gotten sadder inside every year since Maki broke her heart. By now, her career is all she has. A threat to that feels like imminent death to her.

Fortunately, Yuriko’s wife has arrived to save the day!

Glad to see more of this! And thanks for the author's note at the end, it helps put things in perspective since as you mentioned it is a cultural difference in ways of thinking.
