Absolutely a superb chapter. Very well researched and plotted. Exciting and holding the interest. First time I've seen a story where the proper marching commands were given. Too many times people use those stupid movie lines forward ho, or yo. Never existed in the U. . Only one very small detail wrong. The metal rank insignia on the collar as standard, was adopted several years later

Interesting story, but one small niggle. Little Bighorn wasn't even the US Army's worst defeat by American Indians. That was the battle of the Wabash River, November 4, 1791, 623 Federal troops killed versus 268 killed at the Little Bighorn.

great start so far, one quibble is it Major Castle or Captain castle?

Well, this was an interesting second chapter. I was hoping that Rick could have persuaded Kate from tagging along but there would be no story if he was successful. It left me wondering what Kate's mission really is. Hmmm...

I like history very much. I like how you mentioned Custer.

Awesome update, I love these other era stories. I'm glad Rick told Kate his issue with Custer. Can't wait for the next update.

The story is progressing well, except for one point. You cant seem to make up your mind about Castle's rank. You introduced in the start of the story as Major Castle. And then start calling him Captain Castle.
Even if he were Brevet Major he would be addressed as major. And called major by his men.
While brevets were still in use after the civil war, they were rare.
