I was trying to not he disappointed and apprehensive when the chapter started. Hated the idea of Chakotay reaching out to Iztel (?).
Then you took me to an unexpected place and did magic.
Great chapter.
(Oddly, this medicine man reminds me of DS9's Julian Bashir).

Forgot to mention about the previous chapter that it is interesting you have Chakotay seeing that Mark and KJ know each other well enough to complete one another's sentences, but chapter ends with KJ thinking she doesn't know Mark all that well. Nicely done.
You also are doing a good job of showing how KJ could be reacting with Mark this way. You built a credible situation, though it still is difficult reading KJ as so indecisive.

Well, I like (or respect) your Mark a little more, but still wondering what I will feel about him in the end. He at first seemed less than worthy of KJ, bit seems more so now. Interested to see what comes.

And poor Chakotay . . .

I am a great lover 0f JC angst and your story certainly delivers it.

I know I am late to this party, but I am enjoying your story. The differences from the canon of the show are a little unwelcome, but generally okay. I believe I should had searched out the previous story first. Oh, well. . .

I don't especially like Mark right now, but the situation is well written. I very much liked this little bit with PJ's response:
"This is the kind of ethical thicket I love to traverse. In the classroom. In books. Where it's all safely academic. I find I don't much like it in real life. In fact, I envy you. You've been out there, in space, making the real choices all your life. I imagine it isn't so foreign to you."

Her shoulders sagged. "Don't envy me. It doesn't get any easier with practice." "

That was a cute chapter. I'm glad that Kathryn and Chakotay are both figuring things out for themselves.

Coming back to this - it's been a long year. I am glad i finally got the time to read it. I love when Chakotay basically said he likes her best when shes exactly who she is now and Mark previously said he preferred just her civilian self... not his fault but i love how it underscores that hes not a good match for her anymore. Like she might be able to give him what he needs but he'd never be able to be that for her because 8 years have changed them a lot...

and GOD. she wants mark to be happy but she wants to MAKE chakotay happy. I squealed. i wish her counselor would spell it out for her but i am glad Kathryn gets to realize it for herself. (I really like the insights we get into her wants it definitely brings out the softer more playful side she couldnt indulge in the DQ).
