Drumboy100 chapter 8 . 4/26 "I don't want reasonable explanations, I want immediate solutions!" I think a lot of the world's problems are exacerbated by that mentality, Blair! ;) But that is how we all tend to think. I had assumed that the plane tickets were upgraded by Simon, how silly of me! Thanks, Mrs. H. NOOOO this story cuts off at the best conversation! A cute story, with relationship building as well. I already read the next crossover a couple of years ago, so I will briefly skim that one by hitting Control F, Find "Blair" in every chapter...that might give away who's my favorite character, hmm?! |
Drumboy100 chapter 7 . 4/26 Couldn't stop to review the previous chapter, as I was balancing hot soup on my lap! Getting out of that building was a lot easier than I thought it'd be-a good thing, as it gives us 2.5 chapters of post-trauma bonding. More smart deductions by Frank and Joe-with the Sentinel listening in! The show definitely could have used Jim's abilities for more humor, rather than only using them for cases. "damp ringlets," oooo, the most appealing visual yet. Can't believe the ambulances left before the survivors got out! But everyone wanted to ride to the hospital together, anyway. "Sandburg-resistance," laughed at that. A nice nod to Simon as a good police chief and father, not just the comic relief. |
Drumboy100 chapter 5 . 4/26 What an image, Jim hearing the creaks and groans of the building, forced to face his trauma of Blair drowning again-and with heightened senses to increase the experience. I am loving that the enemy in this story is an act of nature, not a bad guy, so all human beings can join together for good (kind of like what is going on in the world right now). How sweet that Frank hears Joe calling his name even without Sentinel abilities, their bond is so strong. Love the image of Joe holding onto Jim for support so he as the younger man can kick harder. "You ought to come with a warning label," lol. MVP goes to the water, whose rapid rising forces our heroes to take care of business themselves rather than waiting for rescue teams, and whose coldness forces Jim and Blair to cuddle for warmth. Your writing never fails to uplift me during a difficult time, how the love between people can overcome all odds. |
Drumboy100 chapter 4 . 4/25 What, JOE is a Guide?! So did not see it coming, and YOU wrote the story I'd been asking for! There can't be a Guide without a Sentinel, correct, therefore will Frank become a Sentinel? I kind of hope Blair will be a bit jealous when he hears about how Joe helped Jim ground! It makes sense, Joe is very emotional, therefore he understands and is in tune with others' emotions as well. I think there will be a third person in on your secret pretty soon, Jim! What will Simon's role be, back home in Cascade, just watching in horror? Nice prior foreshadowing of Blair having all kinds of supplies with him because they'd been needed at the conference, otherwise it would have been a bit too convenient that he now suddenly has them in his back pocket. And Mr. First Aid himself, Frank, is trapped under the rubble (in the dark-claustrophobic!), forcing Daryl to have to care for Blair; love how each character must face fears and overcome weakness/ignorance. Jim will freak when he hears Blair's unstable heartbeat. |
Drumboy100 chapter 3 . 4/25 fndsanio;eiwo...that is my brain and fingers trying to give justice to the multilayered excellence of this chapter, and immediately short-circuiting because the task cannot be done. You know your characters so well, and knew just how to split them up to best relational advantage: Love you, Con, but glad you're out of the scene, following procedure and getting backup (nice nod to how their boring "police procedures" continuing education seminar is actually coming in handy) and the team of Jim and Joe is utterly fascinating. GREAT moment, Jim restraining Joe (even though Jim probably wanted to charge into the building himself), then Jim knowing just how to handle Joe to both assert his authority (nice lecture about brotherhood as thicker than water) and get Joe on his side, earning his respect and assuring him that they will certainly be taking reasonable action (Joe sees that he and Jim BOTH have brothers trapped in there). And Joe proves his worth by contributing his expertise about the hidden tunnel. Wonderful! |
Drumboy100 chapter 2 . 4/25 Jim has an intriguing friendship with Con, but readers are reminded that the special relationship is between Jim/Blair: only Blair is in Jim's confidence regarding his abilities. (I think there would have been interesting situations on the show if Simon had been unaware...but then I suppose every episode would have been a scrambling to explain how Jim knew certain things.) I see that "gentle massaging grip" on Jim's arm, providing comfort for a thunderstorm that would obviously be upsetting for a person with sensitive senses. Joe and Daryl are wearing opposing teams' jerseys, awwwkwaaard! The ceiling collapsed?! And Blair is already injured! There will be some role reversal, the boys taking care of the man, in their effort to get out from under the rubble. Hopefully Jim won't be afraid of the flood, since it isn't open water? I'm afraid to click the "next" button because Jim will scream my ear off when he learns what happened! |
Drumboy100 chapter 1 . 4/25 You wrote these crossovers with friends as well? I'm thinking The Sentinel was your assigned viewing homework from HDA colleagues...and then you proceeded to write more (and better?) fanfic than they did. ;) Unending thanks for skipping only to the scenes that we want to see, skipping over plane rides etc.-B/J's laments over their expectation that this will be a boring conference (I doubt it!), Simon's "request" (read: order) to take care of Daryl (no pressure if something goes wrong, he's just the boss's son!), meetings/introductions, and the hint of foreshadowing that the problem will involve water. My favorite part was viewing B/J through Frank and Joe's eyes: the respect, admiration, surprise at how different the men are, yet how well they go together...and the mention that Jim "seemed to be able to see inside them-through them," what a fabulous nod to Jim's abilities and the smart observational skills of Frank and Joe. The later description of Blair's guide abilities makes me wish for an episode where Blair meets another guide, like Jim met another sentinel, and they could learn from one another...please let me know if anybody wrote a story about that. I like how the men treat the boys as equals, not kids or nuisances, yet B/J were also assessing the Hardys to see if they were acceptable acquaintances for Daryl...and they passed! |
