I was kinda hopping for an ending where 3rd Impact was avoided and some Kaji x Misato time as well, but the direction you took the ending into was good too. It could very well be a canon alternate universe for the eva universe.

Not among your best stuff? I beg to differ, my good sir. This is one of your finest works. Not only it is very well written, but it also gives us an amazingly realistic development of Shinji and Asuka's relationship, from the days after Leliel to the post Third Impact world. So, thanks for writing it.

And it comes full circle! Very well done, I loved the byplay of Mari and Asuka. Very good story, it knows the what it wants to say and doesn't linger passed it's welcome, but it has such strong emotional impact that I feel like it'll stay with me for a long time to come.

Swelter may well be up there with Advice and Trust as some of my favorite Eva fanfics. Well done, my good author, well done.

This is some serious stuff she's able to say out loud, Shinji. No wonder she wants you to pay attention! You know Asuka has trouble being open and straightforward about her heart at the best of time, and here she is, saying flat out that she loves you and you are literally the most important thing in the world to her. Listen! That Asuka is directly telling him what could easily be cast as his worst betrayal of was not his fault: Failing to make it in time to help her fight the Mass Production Evas. That's quite a thing to forgive.

While nothing can match the sheer madcap ride of Operation Unsinkable, this was a lot of fun. (Nothing can beat Mari's pure insanity at plotting that whole afternoon out like the invasion of France.) We got to dive deep into how much Asuka's feelings were a welter of self-loathing and anger at everything, and then see her hilariously embarrassed by a deadpan snarky Rei. :) And now this ending, where we get hints of just how much has changed between them, and a more hopeful post-3I world than most.

I can't wait to read whatever comes next.

Finally over, eh? Damn good ride. Teared up a little bit there at the end, especially with Asuka's version of the end of the series with her at the centre of the conspiracy, and Shinji as the sacrifice. I've always thought with how similar they are, two lonely people, if they ever got even vaguely close then Asuka may have done the same. I mean, hell, who wouldn't if you have nothing left to live for?

On a side note, how is there not a story about that somehwere?
