Makes sense. Soma's good, but he's not at the top. IIRC, he was never able to beat Erina in canon. If anything, he's like a really talented diner cook who could make it to a Black Jacket on Hell's Kitchen, but he lacks the sheer experience cooking at the level Erina or Jack have been to go further and win the whole thing.
