Wow, that was a wonderful story! I just happened upon it because I haven't checked this category in some time and after reading most of it when I found it yesterday and the last few chapters this morning I must say that I am very impressed. I know that most people like to write Uncas/Alice stories which is all well and good but my favorite characters have been Nathaniel/Cora for a long time, I think because they are the heroes of the 1992 film which I have loved since I was a child. Now I do know that that is not how things turn out in the book or in any of the earlier movies and I am not sure why Michael Mann chose to change things around but I am very glad that he did and apparently so are many fanfiction authors. Anyway, just wanted to compliment you on your fantastic story! Thanks again!

Oh my that was heart wrenching. I never read the book and know the pairings are different but wonder if the scene at the cliffs is in the book also.
I always try to think of an alternate ending and feel that Uncas and Alice would never have a moments peace had they survived and stayed together.
At least in your story they seal their love for each other before the tragic ending.
You wrote that scene so well. How can anyone forget Alice's performance at that point in the movie.
Well done and please think about writing another with an alternate ending. Very tricky because both cultures would be very hard on dear Alice.

I liked this chapter very much. I never gave much thought to the feelings of Colonel Monroe,s defeat. It was a failure and that must have grieved him and all who fought to keep the fort.
Cora has much to fret about with hints of Alice's feelings for Uncas, her strained relationship with her father, and Nathanael's fate.

I wish the sisters were more open with each other. They don't seem to have a great relationship. I hope your story improves on that.

I'm so glad Chingachgook is still with them, and I really liked your choice in having one of Cora and Nathaniel's sons married to a Delaware woman. I am sad to see this story end, for I have enjoyed it very much. You did a excellent job of following the movie plot, while adding your own personal touch of originality to it by filling the many scenes that were missing from the movie. You have a very definite talent for writing, and I hope you will continue to share that gift with us. I really would love to read more of your work. Perhaps with a happier ending for Uncas and Alice? :)

This chapter was beautifully done! You covered the vast range of emotions each character was feeling. The scene between Cora and Chingachgook was so moving, as was the ending with the burial scene. And I especially like that Cora was included in it as a participant when the offering was made. Bravo! Very well done!

Wonderful descriptions of the scenery-really brings it to life in my mind. And it was great to get Chingachgook's take on the relationship between Alice and Uncas, his thoughts on the future and his acceptance of Cora and Nathaniel. Such sadness, but also, a glimmer of hope for the future that Nathaniel and Cora will forge. Well done.

I loved the way you described Chingachcook sitting by the fire as Cora woke up: ancient yet ageless...that whole bit was such a lovely image.

The last line brought everything full circle and I loved your epilogue. It was a peaceful, happy scene yet realistic at the same time- remembering all the loss.

I loved this ending and glimpse far into the future of Nathaniel and Cora. So much to love here, combined with little bits of bittersweetness from the past. This was heartbreaking yet lovely to read. The change in chingachgook’s views and his explanation about his fear of the loss of their way of life was a good conclusion. It’s always hard to know exactly how much emotion to give him over this loss. Sometimes I wonder if he’d have more, but then...he is not always likely to show it, especially to Cora who he isn’t close to yet. He is kind to her, though, and that is good. The last part was a good take on the last scene in the movie, and I loved Cora’s inner thoughts about it all, and the love and tenderness between her and Nathaniel throughout.

How utterly beautiful and tragic and heart-rending. Thank you for giving us Uncas' thoughts as he gazed at Alice during the lull in his fight with Magua-that lovely scene between Uncas and Alice that you promised us. What a perfect time to deliver! And giving us Alice's thoughts as well as Cora's, again, just added to the drama and heartbreak. I am left breathless and silent as I feel the loss of these two. Thanks to your added details, I feel the loss as probably Chingachgook, Nathaniel and Cora did. Your description of Alice falling is exactly how I always thought she looked at that moment in the movie: "She fell with such grace that one would have believed she had the ability to fly through the air like birds do." Excellent chapter!

This was so well done. The battle on the cliff has been written so many times, that it is hard to find an original way to write it while keeping with the movie plot. But you succeeded in doing so. I must confess I dreaded this chapter because I knew you were following the movie, and therefore Uncas and Alice would end up suffering the same fate as their movie counterparts. But you added a touch of beauty to this heartbreaking chapter by sharing with us Uncas' memory of the night he spent with Alice at the fort. You hinted at their union in a previous chapter, but now we know all. And you wrote it beautifully. Sensuous, with just enough detail. This chapter saddens me, not only because Uncas and Alice are gone now, but also because I sense this story will soon be nearing it's conclusion. I do hope that when it is finished, you will gift us with another wonderful story. Perhaps one in which Uncas and Alice live? Well, that's my Christmas wish anyway!

And because one review isn’t enough, I also meant to say that the description of Alice’s last moments, what she was looking at and remembering with the braid and what it meant. My heart! And the description of her falling was somehow beautiful, if that can be said of such a terrible thing. To the last you gave her the strength her character was denied on film.
