guest chapter 13 . 7/23
Well, a new and brighter world opens up for Snape! unless Dumbledore manages to sabotage the apprenticeship. He will try, of course; please don't let him succeed. Please don't have Snape queer the deal, either - he should sequester himself until he goes to the appointment with Flamel so Lupin can't waylay him and make him crazy.
guest chapter 10 . 7/23
Your writing is good, as always.

I'm getting increasingly disturbed about Lily's telling the Marauders all these private things about Snape. Making these revelations is not the action of a friend. If he ever discovers she did it, he'll be totally derailed by the betrayal - and rightly so. The discovery may not hand him to the Death Eaters, as her canon behavior did, but it might well destroy their supposed friendship.

Lupin is also quite right that things have gone too far for Snape to take the discovery of Lupin's identity as anything but another piece of cruel ridicule: "Ha ha ha, we fooled you, sap!" It's hard to identify a best time for Lupin to have unveiled, but now is definitely too late. It may be that the deception scheme simply couldn't turn out well with ~any~ timing.

Later: OTOH, when Flamel accepts Snape as an apprentice or for a summer tryout (as I trust you will have him do), that would be as good a time as is now possible for Lupin to 'fess up. After an initial eruption, Snape would eventually figure out that such a recommendation could not have been a nasty trick. For now, I hope Lupin asks Flamel not to mention his name yet.
Alomoria chapter 13 . 7/8
So I reread this whole thing so I could appreciate your update much more and I don’t regret it! I’m very much eager to see what you have planned for the next chapter. I’m very much a fan of a friendship between Lupin and Snape, so I’m hoping that eventually becomes the case in your story. But either way I will patiently await your update! Thank you for writing, it’s nice to escape a little while from the world and read a fun and engaging story like yours.

Is Perenelle using Legillimency? Or is it one of those tuned into others' emotions things? Would like to see where this goes.
cookeroach chapter 12 . 6/20
Oh, Remus, you sweet summer child ... you did everything in the wrong order.
cookeroach chapter 7 . 6/20
This is hilarious, tragic, and cruel at the same time. Snape is writing these letters assuming that they are confidential, yet all of his secrets are being poured out into four different people. I felt violated reading them go over what was supposed to be private correspondence. This reminds me of "Taming the Shrew," and not in a good way.

I suppose Remus had good intentions, but he should never have showed that letter directly. You can ask for advice, but never directly show the contents. The thing is, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Potter and Black both bullied Snape with "good" (I use the term very loosely) intentions i.e. he was "the other" and "the bad guy." OK, BS reasons, but the same excuse that a lot of IRL genocidal maniacs used. Some probably drank their own Kool-Aid. That was always why I was confused Gryffindor was seen as the "good guys" more than Hupplepuff. Ends don't justify the means, especially if they're shitty. You have to do the right thing for the right reasons, not stumble upon it by accident. Broken clocks and all that. I just can't see this facade ending well.

If Remus wanted to make amends, he could have been up front about it, bore the tirade from Snape, and earn his trust openly. It would take a long time, but at least it would work. If he thinks you can become friends by being secretive and uncommunicative, then he's in for a big surprise. Does he think he can say "Tada! It's me, Lupin!" and become friends?

And the Lily in your story ... she had no reason to tell the Marauders about Severus's home situation. They had already given up on bullying Severus, and she could have confirmed what they told her they already knew (although even that is dodgy). Severus told her everything in absolute confidence. Some secrets are just not yours to tell. If she was truly sorry, she should have been proactive in fixing the mess she was partly responsible for. Instead, knowing that the Marauders psychologically and physically tortured Snape, she blabs his secrets to his worst enemies. How is she going to explain this to Snape once he finds out?

I get that they're all emotionally immature teenagers, and you're writing them quite realistically. But I still need to vent about what a bad idea this is. Potter and Black did some unforgivable shit, and I don't think Snape will react well to them being let on in his personal affairs.

This can't end well. It'll end hilariously badly. In Snape's position, I'd probably not speak to Lily for a while after I find out about the deception. And no, I wouldn't become friends with Remus. Thing is, Snape is emotionally vulnerable enough that he might actually grit his teeth and accept it. I hope you won't play it for laughs or anything.

Anyways, interesting story. I'm cautiously optimistic about where it's heading.

Whoa, I completely missed this story! It's super depressing and the only character I like as a person is the Hupplepuff prefect.
Guest chapter 4 . 6/20
Your writing is really good, but every time the Marauders or their bullying of Snape comes up, I have to walk away for a while. It's not any slight against you as a writer—the subject material is just that hard to touch tastefully.

Because no matter what, JK Rowling's canon alone makes it impossible to justify the Maruaders' actions. These descriptions of bullying hit too close to home, as I was once in Remus's position, and in Snape's. Most people are like Remus or Lily—it's easy to say "not my problem" and look away. But good people—heck, even remotely normal people—don't bully, period. Good people is mutually exclusive with SB or JP. It costs them literally nothing to just not torture somebody they do not like and who cannot fight back. Rowling dropped the ball with her description of JP, and I feel she wrote about an issue she doesn't know anything about-even if she claims she was also bullied.

It's hard to read any fanfiction that tries to cast JP as a good person. That show him possessing enough self-awareness to realize how much of a shitty person he is. He's not sorry because he acted shitty, he's sorry because he acted horribly towards THE WRONG PERSON. As if that can ever be an excuse. And then these fics will go on and blame Snape for not having it in him to forgive a childhood full of torture, as if it's the victim's obligation to forgive their tormentor. In my country, there was a very famous rape case where a few rapists' relatives had the utter gall to gang up and harass a rape victim for not asking the court for clemency. I haven't seen a single fic dealing with this issue that has not gone down that "the victim should forgive the perpetrator, otherwise they're not a good person" tropey victim-blaming route. That they're immature for not letting go. And I'm worrying that will happen here given how fast the 180 was for JP.

Your work is so well written, but the material it deals with it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I discovered it recently, but I don't think I'll be able to complete it for a while.

I loved the fact you included Rosmerta.

Did you know that Snape x Rosmerta is a really rare crack pairing?

I don't have an account to follow the stories I like so sorry if this review was made too late!

Very interesting interview, I'm glad it seems like Flamel is going to stay here for a while because your portrayal of him was very enigmatic. He really gives the impression of being Dumbledore without his ego and his superiority. And I'm glad Severus will be accepted as an apprentice after all!

I will excitedly wait for the next chapter; Remus and Snape have a loooot to talk about.
