Reviews for Phantom Echoes
sleapyGazelle chapter 1 . 6/22/2017
This was such an interesting concept! Even though it's by all means a good dream, the first scene has this ominous tone to it. So despite being a fluffy scene that Shiro is in, there's something lurking that doesn't seem quite right. Something is just off. And then in the end we see why: The true nightmare is Shiro's reality. I really like the feel of it! It's perfect for the theme of kuro week~
American Ishida chapter 1 . 6/22/2017
I have two favorite lines from reading this, and one of them has nothing to do with anything. I just like the line. The line where Allura's hair is compared to "ivy creeping along a garden wall". I don't even know what that means, but I like it. The other line being "Instead, he put a hand on the mirror as if trying to see something beyond the pane of glass". This line actually transitions well into what I am going to be talking about. This line is almost a moment of realization for Shiro. Let me explain.

This whole sequence is a dream for Shiro. This is supposed to be his ideal dream; this should be everything he has ever wanted. And it's interesting to note that the one who is a part of his ideal is Allura, and not his friends in this scenario. It's interesting (I say that often) because Allura is the one who connects Shiro to the world and makes it worth living for him. He, in a way, lives for and because of Allura. So it makes sense that she is the one in this dream. And yet, the moment with the mirror. It's almost a moment of self-awareness, realization. Shiro is looking into the mirror for something more. He can't believe what he is experiencing and it almost feels too good to be true. Lo and behold he is correct, but he doesn't pursue this as he tries to enjoy this dream, even if he himself doesn't feel worthy of this.

So him sweating while having this dream is an indication that this is a nightmare for someone like him who doesn't believe he is worthy of such happiness. Your friend is a pretty smart guy for thinking this one up. Well, keep it up.
