Good chapter, but I don't believe that the distinction/difference between their relative use of violence is as great as you think. Loss of temper is loss of temper. Violence is violence. One should not attempt to live on the difference between how Hiccup reacted and why versus how Astrid reacted and why. Astrid after all is trying to protect her sister just like Hiccup was trying to protect Toothless. More importantly, Astrid's sister had ACTUALLY been physically hurt REPEATEDLY not simply threatened when Astrid reacted.

I was shocked when I read the scene when Hiccup almost kissed Brie. Personally, I don’t believe the « we were close to do something and later, when we think about it, we realize we wouldn’t have done it », for me it’s action that matters, not words. I’ll admit it did create a good scene but i’m glad you said there won’t be any cheating, we all know Hiccup isn’t like that. However, A chance Toothless was here when Hiccup get drunk and was in a vulnerable state.

You regularly mention Toothless position as alpha. Will this lead to something? Maybe you could have deepened Toothless presence when Gunnar mentioned his role in Stoïck death. See how Hiccup did forgive his best friend and for it impact their relationship.

I also love the way you put the Hicstrid situation. Hiccup wanting to have sex but know they can’t before mariage which I found perfectly realist. The romantic drama creates tension and they can’t comfort each other since they aren’t allowed to even touch each other, super. Glad they finally talked about what was bugging them after the drunk scene. I wonder, when they finally slept together, will you make it a rated m scene or more like the one where they kiss on Hiccup bed with Astrid removing her tops?

Last point, what do you think about a scene where Gunnar try to rape Astrid. He doesn’t succeed to go all the way but manage to rip her clothes and (maybe) touch her torso a little before someone come, saving her but don’t see the aggressor. Poor Astrid, traumatized and it’s her voice against the one of Gunnar. Will she have the courage to publicly denounce him? How Hiccup will take it? Bad of course but you get what I mean. How will the villagers, Astrid family, and guest will react when someone find her half naked in the night? How Brie will be implicated, will she try to sincerely help Astrid, having gone through the same thing? It will go so good inside your story and will push Hicstrid father than ever by how they will handle that in private and public.

Yes, this chapter went along way toward addressing Astrid's "anger issues." As for Brie, if your religion does not help you at the most trying times in your life, then I submit it's not much of a religion. Oh, and Astrid's regret over hitting her sister and her desire to curb her anger notwithstanding, she should have decked the old lady for pulling her sister into harm's way and then some. No court would have convicted her for doing do nor, I believe, would Hiccup.

Wow! After reading from chapter 1 to the end...I am so incredibly impressed with the evolution of your style! The way you have moved from the cartoon characters and dialogue to this- very adult and mature- narrative is quite breathtaking! You have transformed this story into one of your own. Well done! You are dragging this out to long gut the cousin and the aunt and be done with it and there is no way the old hag would of had the reflexes to pull her sister in front of her

The last part of this chapter dovetailed nicely with the "Heathleggs" chapter. They do make a cute couple especially when their in "chaperone" mode.

OK, in terms of belief Brie, as portrayed, does not seem have any inkling whatsoever of what her Christian faith is all about and thus cannot turn to it when she needs it most. Also, many Christian woman would chose martyrdom-an many did-rather than abandon their faiths or its precepts. As for the exchange between Astrid and Gunnar, I think that it is stretching credulity to the breaking point if Astrid, especially after Gunnar announce his intention to be disruptive, believes or worries about his lies-even a drunk Astrid should know better. Furthermore, given how Hiccup and Astrid handle or not their liquor, they really should become "tea-totalers." Having said all this, I still must admit you write exceptionally well and I find impossible to totally abandon this story as a result. In the end it is not how you write, but what you write that is problematic for me.

Sorry, but again if Astrid has this little control of her temper and demonstrates this lack of understanding, that she is being deliberately "goaded," then, dare I say it, maybe Laga is right-that Astrid needs to be restrained-and Hiccup, as chief, may indeed need to look for a different wife-one who can better handle these kinds of situations. Not that Hiccup did so good with controlling his temper when dealing with the Chief of the Brawlers, mind you.

Oh man, she punched her pregnant sister. Geez. I can’t blame Astrid for being so angry it seems like everyone, especially her family is against her. Anyone would break under those conditions
