Poor kid - I love hearing Adams internal voice reckoning with whether to be more like Sam or Dean and trying to figure out how to be Adam. This was a great continuation of the angst and fear in John from the last chapter spilling out into his actions too. I like to think he really did care about his kids, and this did a great job exploring what that really means in his world. Great update - thanks for sharing!

Poor Adam. If only Dean had been there to assuage his Dad’s temper a bit!

Superb chapter. John is magnificent in his unquestionable self belief. He surely does not suffer from low self-esteem! It is hard to make a value judgement about who was right though. The hunt is not described in enough detail. That is fine though as this chapter deals with personalities and the characters reaction to what happens. The dialogue is amazing and I really like Adam's courage when he challenges John's view of events. We learn a lot more about Adam through John's eyes. We also have a short glimpse into John's fatherly side. He loves Adam and feels for him. He understands how miserable he has made him feel but ultimately he knows that he is right. Adam must stop being reckless. If the belt teaches him that valuable lesson. So. Be. It. Punishment scenes can make you cringe in the wrong way but this one made me cringe in the right way. Vicious hits mixed with Adam's emotional reaction. Great fanfiction if you like a strict but ultimately loving John...and I do. Thank you so much. I cannot wait to read about the aftermath of this very intense episode.

John seems a little over the top in this chapter. Think he would have waited to get to their room before dishing it out.

Also, taking a belt to a 17 year old would be mostly a power trip for John. Does he really think it's going to change Adam's behavior? It only worked on Dean because Dean was damaged since he was 4, and never given a chance to heal. I would think John's smarter than that.

Great chapter. Poor Adam. And poor John, actually. He does try, doesn't he? He just really sucks at parenting.

What if Dean and Adam are on a hunt together. Adam makes a huge mistake and puts his life and the hunt at risk, how would Dean react? Would he want to beat him like their father, would he try to fight that urge, would he just talk it out with him?

I would love to see Adam facing the yellow eyed demon. Maybe he is on a hunt with John and they come face to face with the demon. He taunts them. Scares John shitless when he comes in and he was not ready, he was Not expecting him and makes him beg for Adam’s life as he laughs at him. That would really turn John into needing to kill this demon. It would dawn into Adam and Dean that they are after a demon, maybe even protective Deon bitting his tongue, wanting to chide his father for putting them in risk.

What can I say? Your writing is amazing. It is like I am in the middle of the action. John is right though. If Dean does not step up the training his brother is dead meat! I love the way that you write John. You can feel his frustration and the effect he has on the boys. They fear him. They bite their tongues not to lip him back. They cringe at the criticisms. Thank you for updating. I love it when a new chapter comes out and our beloved characters come to life..even John!...I have always had a soft spot for John. He is never dull and can be electrifyingly scary at times. I find those moments totally captivating even though I would never want him as a dad!

Like seeing John back. Seems Dean and Adam have built some bridges. Would love stories of Dean really accepting Adam, and/or Adam realizing it. Nice chapter.

(I know you had a chapter a while back with Adam visiting Sam, and then Adam and Dean kind of opening up to each other. Don't know if it was the same chapter or 2 different ones.)

Oh I loved John's voice in this one. And that first scene, the analogy of a summer storm, that was perfection. They can all feel it coming, but the boys can't put a name on it and John can't do it either. And instead, just this chilling sense that time is running out. I'm excited to see that there's a Part 2 to come?
