I’m not quite sure what I think of this story. It’s completely different take on time travel. It shows Ron as an intelligent and hardworking boy who spent years manipulating others for a better future, including actions that he knew might permanently alienate the person who made the world worth saving to him. It’s angsts-ridden until the very end, where it takes an acute curve to humor. I don’t like angst, but it was worth it to get to Ron’s “But if it’s too much pressure...”

This is a very creative idea for a fan fic. I like the way Ron Weasley took many of the mistakes JK Rowling made in canon and explained why they were necessary changes to the timelines.

A lot of Ron bashers, Dumbledore bashers and Harry/Hermione shippers fail to realize that JK Rowling was writing a children's fantasy book. The children were the heroes, not the adults. So, for example, she wrote a scene where three 11 year old children get past a series of protections on their own.

Having Ron explain that he had to hide his abilities was also a reference to canon. JK Rowling depicted the three main characters of the Harry Potter books in narrowly defined roles.

Harry Potter - Abused male hero
Hermione Granger - Idealized female sidekick
Ron Weasley - Marginalized male sidekick

So Ron explained that he had to make keeping Harry and Hermione alive his priority on his mission. This falls in line with Harry being "The Boy Who Lived" and Hermione being "The Brightest Witch of Her Age".

I had to read this a couple times to follow the logic, but what a cool story... the gift of the library was brilliant.
