The thing with the true end was that by the end of it all, they came to the realization that humanity can only survive if they allow humans to think for themselves. The first three baddies were no-brainers...exploitation and abuse being swept under the rug that wasn't getting reported or was just somehow evading police detection. It's hard to feel like they would grow a conscience on their own. Okumura...that's a different story. He was supposed to be the one that caused controversy. Underpaid staff in large factories is normal and multiple companies do it...why did they go after him specifically? In the end, it came down to Haru not wanting to get married but not having the courage to say it to her father's face in reality. It's the one palace that SHOULD HAVE been avoidable if the primary victim, Haru, would just talk to her father. Nobody would object to her barging into his office before a meeting. Even if they did, she's the president's daughter and they'd be too scared to say anything anyway. Fact of the matter is...she forced that infiltration by not being able to tell her father the truth.

In the other situations, even if people did come clean about being victims of the palace owners, it would always reflect badly on them. For Kamoshida, school authority figures would defend him. Madarame was an authority in the art world. And the kids in Shibuya were threatened into keeping quiet because evidence would incriminate them as well. Okumura was one that could be handled by the books. Even if Haru was sold off, she still had the freedom to say no as it was revealed that there was no actual contract so she would've had all the power there.

Okumura was the only one handled badly, imo. Not because it was used against them but because it was one that could've been avoided. The deadline was the non-existent marriage contract, after all.

Damn I’ve finally caught up to this chapter and I must blame you for putting me on an emotional rollercoaster and all.

This story has been a dark dark ride and completely par for the course and I don’t know why I’m so drawn to it... it’s not completely dark but there’s just the right amount of levity to give you that breather before you dive back in...

I also enjoy the new team dynamics it’s really interesting and I hope to see how you explore the new confidant interactions given that it’s a completely new person initiating them now.

Wonder how the wildcard ability manifests and how the persona’s change / evolve over time though... that gets me very excited but that’s a looong way off from here it seems.

I hope you find yourself able to finish this epic story especially since you’re probably going to have to go “off-road” towards the end but hey I trust you and respect your GENIUS story telling ability and look forward hungrily for more.
