Lana del Fae chapter 1 . 11/14/2017 Revisiting this because it's just so good. I love the fact that David's portrayal here features an almost-overpowering rage and sadness...almost overpowering, but held back by David's self-control. It's also wonderful to see his almost compulsive drive for knowledge, and his sort of naivete with gentler human relationships. He understands Dr. Holloway's contempt in light of Weyland's casual cruelty, but his only point of reference for his feelings for Dr. Shaw are movies. The whole movie aspect is also so interesting: in the absence of other people, almost all of his education takes place through movies. Lawrence of Arabia is the tip of the iceberg: all of his models for interaction are fictional characters, and that is who he identifies himself and contrasts himself with. I also love how Dr. Shaw shows him new thoughts - the drive to free oneself from an unbearable motherhood. Best portrayal of David ever. |
