This is perfect. I’m so glad you wrote this. It’s such a big part of the “R” mysteries, Barney’s search for his father, and it gets glossed over. I loved it!

You definitely captured the spirit of her work, and I agree with you: the reunion in the book is pretty watered down and quite detached, so I'm really really glad you wrote it more emotional. It was amazing and an even wortier ending than the original. Well done! :)
