Thank you. I rarely watch TV or movies and when my nephew asked mr to join the family time watching this show I expected to enjoy the pilot and tolerate the first couple seasons sitting in the back of the living room working as the family watched the show and leave entirely as the authors ran out of inspiration and switch to sex sells by season 3.

Instead by the time we got to season three I was hooked and stayed up all night watching the show on my lap top. And still watching the nightly episode with the family. But I felt the writers missed the ending, it just wasn't right. Too many people hurt; June, her extended family that Neil is close to off screen, the retired but still fatherly to Peter Hough's, Diana and Theo in DC, Clinton, the admin and technical staff, the folks we as audience knew as extras with FBI jackets relationships largely off screen but which Neil would have been hurt by loosing.

Then theres the loose ends, Sara's missing sister, where is Neil's mother, what about the rest of the crooks involved with James. Pratt's dead, but there were more dirty cops in that mess. What is keeping them from killing Neil? killing Peter? Ruining Peter's career? This is not a group that waits for an emendate threat to come to their attention to deal with cracks in the armor.

Moz looses a friend that a fence, guy gets murdered because Moz brought his friend too close to Neil's work. Morning this loss is too much off screen. A single mention of the man that raised Moz, Moz setting but a multi million dollar trust to run the orphanage off is missing.

Neil is never seen helping Mom with this grief on screen. Still we know he is there for his friend in this. Neil’s pain at loosing Kate, realizing Alex is only interested in him if its as an opponent keeping her con sharp, the betrayal of having fallen for the con of the woman who killed Seagull who Neil was trying to include in his circle of friends and whom he had decided had some likable qualities, and shoes loss tore Peter up, the murder of Ellen and the clear look at who James is were all left dangling as inconsequential rather than Neil’s whole world.

Peter gets angry and self righteous after going to jail, after almost losing his career. He lashes out at Neil in ways so out of line that Elisabeth and Clinton both call him on it but he just gets worse. Peter gets rewarded for being a jackass to Neil by his friends, mentors and superiors in DC. Peter looses his way not just in his career and friendship with Neil but in his understanding of self in season 4. Neil in turn become angry, scared and has reason for both.

Peter never gets it, keeps insisting that Neil let a murder blackmail him, walked willingly into this trap because he loves Peter. Never gets that Neil could have run then. If Neil was going to leave because all Peter was to him was a friend of connivance he would have split when Peter became a liability.

And the class act woman and the fruit peddler boy on the island, what about them and the $500mill reward?

I couldn't let these loose ends go. I started writing a story, just building it in my head, not typing yet. Just as I was commuting or supposed to be asleep. I decided to look and see if WC had a fan fiction following.

Last night I read your story instead of starting writing mine.

You nailed things that were slipping past me. You got Peter to grow up, to face what he had done to Neil in season five and be stronger for knowing it.

This is such a beautiful story and my favourite fanfiction written for White Collar. I was disppointed with Peter the way he treated Neal in season 5. He just said so many harsh things especially with him being a liability when Neal was listening through the microphone. I am so glad you addressed those issues. I wish they had actually done this in the series. I cried while reading this story as for me the heart of white collar was Neal and Peter's relationship which was broken in season 5. This gives me some sort of closure. Thanks a lot for writing this. I am disasppointed to find that this is your only fiction in white collar. Hope you write more! Thanks again for this.

That was perfection. I love the way you fleshed out the circumstances of the finale into something much more palatable.
I actually didn't like the finale - it very much left bitter taste in my mouth (even factoring in Peter's behavior at the end of the run) because it (in my opinion) completely retconned everything presented about Neal throughout the entire series. Yes, he's a conman...yes he likes the thrill of the 'job'...but time and time again he kept coming back because of his life in New York, because of family. And then suddenly - BAM - he fakes his own death. So either he was running a long con throughout the entire series, and he's bordering on being a total sociopath to be a-okay with allowing all these people to care for him and subsequently mourn him. Or the writers got lazy.

Personally, one of favorite points you made in this story is at the end - the deal with the FBI for a real identity as Victor Moreau. I've been headcannoning that since the finale aired. I just didn't see the Neal that we saw throughout the series just throwing away everything to wanderlust again without some form of security behind it. In my head he had a deal with the FBI & Marshalls from the get go that for the capture of the Pink Pathers he'd get a new legitimate life - keeping everyone he loved safe.
