THIS IS SO GOOD OMG! I WAS LAUGHING SO MUCH! THANK U FOR THIS! YOU MADE MY DAY!
Iris C chapter 7 . 7/2/2019
Whoa, this is my favorite, a meticulous masterpiece. I imagine you spent some time plotting the arc of this carefully. What I love about Atla is underneath the busy, kids storyline, there's a wisdom so crystal clear, so compassionate, so non-judgemental that you know the writers have really lived to be able to distill it down so gracefully. Anyway, that's also what this story feels like, that beneath the humor (the different scenarios with Zuko in Mai's bedroom hahahahaahaha), the romance, the war, there's some incredibly elegant life advice.

The part where uncle reflects on Ty Lee's advice, of focusing on the self, then expands upon it to talk about the removal of the self... Holy crap.

The examination of why Zuko must leave under a dozen circumstances really goes deep into the relationship, and Mai's own psyche and growth. Phew.

It's a big and difficult story and stuck from beginning to end!

I don’t know what I was expecting really. It’s been a long time since Maiko Week an I think I missed this one by at least a year. Having Yue make a appearance and presiding on Mai’s fate is a pleasant surprise.

You’ve done a great job transforming Mai’s outlook on things in a most unique way. I love the happy ending as well!
Private Fire chapter 6 . 12/10/2018
Oh, this is so satisfying! How long did it take ou to plan this whole story out and work everything in? Ground Hog Day is so simplistic by comparison.
Private Fire chapter 5 . 12/10/2018
Of course! When in doubt ask Uncle Iroh. To the humor, action, adventure, murder, and friendship, you now add have philosophy 202. Ty Lee was 101.

A most interesting notion that Iroh too was once trapped in he worst day of his life. It rings true and would definitely fit in with what we know from the cartoon. Iroh mentions that he escaped at the cost of loosing his son. Is that to say that if he had been freed of that day, that it could have happened during a scenario in which Lu Ten survived? Is that what you were trying to tell me?
Private Fire chapter 4 . 12/10/2018
I think I said something about couples looking out in the same direction, didn’t I? Well this did it. At this point, they definitely have different outlooks. I’m impressed with how you handle these two.

From my count, Mai has killed the Avatar and his friends. Who’s she missing?

On to the next chapter, and he next, for as long as I can remain awake.
Private Fire chapter 3 . 12/10/2018
Given how things left off in chapter two, I thought this is where the warning you gave us at the very start would come into play. I am glad that instead Mai decides to make use of her time loop like Hermione Granger would a time turner - to learn.

Having Ty Lee play a large role in this chapter was inspired. Ty Lee gets to show off her smarts not only to Mai, but to the reader as well, proving that she is not just a pretty face. i had never considered Ty Lee’s philosophy, nor her chi-blocking for more than Mai had. I thought it was pretty straight forward. You’ve proven me wrong. The friendship between th girls was a delight to read.

Mai’s desire to learn, especially about sharp pointy things, really propels her new level of fighting. Too bad - though I guess it is part of the process she must undergo in order to grow an mature - she decides to use her new skills to kill Aang for coming between her and Zuko.

The scenes from chapter two and this one between her and Zuko are well done. Again, you’ve shown you can write romance the right way - especially between these two. It’s not the type of romance to make one swoon. Instead it is reflective of real relationships where there is caring and problems do not have easy solutions; the type of problems that take care, understanding, and compromise; the type that need two people looking forward in the same direction and not just into each other’s eyes.

Nice work with the action and writing the repetition of

This chapter upped the ante. Just taking in all the possibilities and watching Mai go through each day is interesting enough. I thought I caught on to the pattern and figured it would be pretty much the same with variations on what she does throughout the day, with the inevitable softening and growth of empathy on her part towards her fellow FN servicemen. I had forgotten about Zuko and the possibilities there.

You’ve exceeded what I had expected for Maiko. I think you’ve covered every reaction she could’ve had. What threw me, though I’m glad you covered it, was Zuko’s and Azula’s deaths. After that, you go and break Mai. Mai!? Cool, calm, unflappable Mai.

Fascinating! We are used to seeing what Mai does and we are left alone to guess about her feelings and thoughts. You give us play by play, by play by play, again and again. You’re breaking down for us that lightning quick mental chess game that goes on in her head - those mental calculations which guide her towards her best considered course of action - for us to see as actual learned “mistakes.” She meets plenty of dead ends with regards to Zuko. Those scenarios are perfect. The last one breaks her, of course. She can’t move on and is cursed to relive the day. You’ve once again forced her to have skin on the game.

I’ve only finished chapter two. I’m ready for the rest of the ride and in the dark about where it will lead.

Poor Mai. I think she would have been better off if three ghosts of Fire Nation past had paid her a visit.
Private Fire chapter 1 . 12/9/2018
I don’t know why it took me this long to finally read this story. Oh boy is this good. The details you’ve come up with alone make this story worthwhile. Add to that what you’re putting Mai through and how she’ll come out in the end makes this is marvelous.

I’m guessing that given her original reaction and the many times she’ll probably relive this day, she’ll come out, not only nicer, but also more composed. After all, at by the end there’d be no more surprises and therefore no hysterics. Maybe that’s the secret to her ennui. She lives her life at least twice giving her the chance to assimilate events and put on an appropriately bored and unflappable mask day-after-day. Hmm?

Highly satisfactory ending. You know you've inspired me to start writing again when I can.
Brievel chapter 6 . 9/11/2018
Poor Mai. Almost free, right?

...well, I appreciate Mai's gift for paraphrasing...

My breath honestly was blown away by how wonderful you’ve made this premise your own. I hope you sleep well tonight because you’ve certainly made my day.
