Wow, what a delightfull surprise, I didn't expected a storydealing with unrequited love in such a sweet, mature, and respectful way... It's like you've created a masterpiece with the old cliché "we could still stay friends".

I've adored the subtle nuances you've put here, and there, in the peculiar relationship between those two, no matter if it's with their battle of wits or the heterodox way they were sort of nice to each other, without speaking of this mix of mutual understanding despite the gap wich would always remains between them...

The letter which was the core of the story was so suited as a sort of confession mixed with an innocent prank and a last gift to the detective boy before the departure of their friends... I've also loved how you've played with the ciphers.

Finally, it was nice to see Ran handling Shiho's place in Shinichi's life in such a mature and understanding way.

Hope you're considering writing a sequel. That ending is evil. I was looking forward to a lot of things, especially after reading Shiho and Shinichi's take on what their future might be. That was such a teaser!

Still, it was interesting to see both their perspectives on their futures. It's touching that Shinichi wants to keep Shiho in his life, and the way he says that he trusts her! *cries*

I love your Shiho here and in your other fic, she's so difficult to write what with her moodiness, secretive nature, and playful personality. And poor Shinichi! I understand why he'd be confused and more suspicious of Shiho's confession than accepting. Especially when Shiho isn't so expressive. But I'm glad Shinichi found that out later. It's nice that he kept thinking about her, hohoho.

But the future! What could it be! Ahh I really want to see how it'll unfold in the end, and how the changes might affect their relationships. HMHMHM.

Anyway, this was a lot of fun! Looking forward to the day you publish another fic for the series!

I dunno what came upon me to browse some of these, but I'm glad I did. Details are very precisely maintained, save the abrupt ending. One could only hope the anime ends in similar way... Canon it was, yet Haibara's counter Canon constuct was fun to read.

Lovely fic! Oddly enough, the love letter and the scenes between Conan and Ai didn't attract my attention as much as Ran and her reaction to the truth. I like your Ran much more than the original one. She has all the good traits of canon-Ran and lacks all her bad ones. It's easy to see how Shinichi could have fallen in love with her.

Ai is mysterious, as always, and it's hard to guess whether she is really in love with Conan although she says it explicitly. She is very guarded, which is very in-character for her, but one can't help but wonder whether she is just trying to make herself believe that she is in love with him when she suddenly opens up and says it explicitly. It's odd how she insists on being open and making a fuss out of it although she could just ignore the matter and keep her feelings to herself. Conan is understandably confused but is also confusing himself. What does he actually feel about this, is it really just his feeling of being puzzled and intrigued by a mystery he can't solve? Is he falling in love (or about to fall in love) with her because he thinks so much about her and only doesn't know it yet? Is this what she wanted when she confessed her feelings to him in that anonymous letter?

Somehow it really seems like a prank gone too far, and they both still don't know what to feel about it. It's impressive how confident Ran reacted to Shiho's confession, and their future friendship is what would intrigue me most if you ever feel like writing a sequel for this.

In any case, I'm glad I've stumbled over this gem. I liked the typical Conan/Ai banter and the code. There were only few mistakes I spotted (as weird as it shounds, it should be "Aren't I..." instead of "Am I not...", and there was a redundant "someone" in the beginning).
