AsMoonlightThroughThePines chapter 1 . 3/3 I love the structure and progression of this piece - the night panic, Han's processing what happened, and the final, more dynamic scene that takes us back to a normal and happy day (#HanandLeiahappy2k20). The first part is incredibly evocative of those middle of the night panics and really shows Han spiraling out. His anxiety is truly palpable and you manage to show his stream of thoughts in a very 'Han' way too. Similarly reading him take in what Leia might be doing with the Force was beautiful characterisation and a great dive into his ability to consider new facts - and mostly his love for Leia. Really enjoyed the man leaning into his feelings there. The cosy comfort of the end scene was delightful to read and a beautiful reminder of how much their relationship has evolved since ANH. |
JCBS chapter 1 . 2/3/2019 Reread this one and so glad I did. I love Han being unable to express in words what he feels for Leia. He’s all action, that one. Also, this: Clearly I’m not earning my keep if you’re dreaming about the droid. ROFL! |
Guest chapter 1 . 1/22/2018 Love the tittle. Love the story. |
Guest chapter 1 . 11/7/2017 Lovely |
Mako-clb chapter 1 . 8/5/2017 This is so wonderful. I just love Han's reactions to everything. It fits him perfectly. And, I always love it when writers find ways to show that Leia is strong in the Force without her having to become a Jedi. |
OtterAndTerrier chapter 1 . 7/4/2017 I don't know if you ever got my tumblr review, but I'd been meaning to re-read this and re-review it for a long time... I loved it, I really liked the way you made us feel Han's state of being post-nightmare, how he reflects that the worst of them are based on the memory of being unable to help Leia, Chewie and Luke, and how he feels himself calming down at Leia's touch. His confusion, his apprehension, his experimenting to see if it was real (lol!) It was brilliant to see him reaching the conclusion that she was unconsciously helping him, because even unconscious she loves him, and therefore it can't be bad - but that still doesn't win without a deliberate fight over years of cynicism. "But like any good penitent, he deferred to the higher power of his own comfort" - Such a good line! Then, the second part, with those tiny reflections from him about his home and seeing Leia so comfortable and human, like some private privilege he earned... gah! And Leia describing her dream, without any clue of what she'd done for him. "He was willing to die for her. What made him think she would do anything less for him?" - *heart eyes* I loved how he decided not to tell her now, in deference to her still conflicted relationship with the Force, and instead show her how much he loves her. Wonderful story! |
dantsolo chapter 1 . 6/8/2017 Just read this again and I think I loved it more than the first time. |
SilverWolf77 chapter 1 . 5/13/2017 AHHH I love this! Han decided he wasn't go to tell her was the perfect ending. Great job xx |
HoldoutTrout chapter 1 . 5/6/2017 Somehow I missed this one! I really like it, too. Although I normally like "I sleep better with you beside me," it does sometimes feel like a too-easy fix. And here you've brought that into play but also showed WHY it helps them both to have each other-even without Leia's new and exciting Force powers. And it's not a perfect fix where they're suddenly sleeping dreamless, but relying on each other to cope. AND THEN you bring in Leia using the Force to help unconsciously but it's ALSO not a perfect fix and means complications but it IS something that Han is learning to love about her. It's a really good look at them both, darling. |
justinegraham chapter 1 . 5/6/2017 I loved it then, and I love it even more now. The way it unfolds after waking so unsettled in the night feels so natural to me. Han, seeing Leia in the morning...undone, tired, caf-addicted, human—I love that, it's so simple and real. Then when Han realizes he's just experienced some next-level shit he freaks, because he's human too. But rational Han puts it all into perspective. He might not understand it, but it's part of what makes Leia who she is, and he adores it all. Just as he'd move the stars to save her, she'll do the same for him. So good, and so much more than uncomplicated fluff! |
Zyra M chapter 1 . 5/5/2017 It's funny, mere weeks ago I went back and re-read this when I needed a nice, quick, feel-good story. I love so many things about it. I love that Leia unconsciously makes such a difference in Han's well being, and it is so Han that that fact simultaneously soothes him and also kind of freaks him out. I feel like the longer they are together, the more he would appreciate it without being annoyed by it, but this early I can see him not being used to it yet. But still just such a wonderful thought that she can make him feel better like she does. And I liked that he doesn't even tell her what had been going on, he simply wants to show her how much he loves her. All great stuff! |
erindarroch chapter 1 . 5/3/2017 This is hardly "simple, uncomplicated fluff", my friend. This is rich character exposition and development, and a delicious exploration of the changing relationship between Han and Leia in this era. I absolutely adore how wigged-out Han gets when he realizes what's been going on. It rings so true for me that he would react that way at first. But then it sinks it; what it means. And how *good* it is. She wants to keep him safe and happy; just as he wants the same for her. It's just...so...lovely. But you never take that beautiful sentiment over the edge into schmaltz. Instead, you have Han act like *Han* and tackle her, keen to show her what she means to him in the best way he knows how. I love it. |
LoveTh1s chapter 1 . 5/2/2017 I read this on the H&L Fanfic writer's blog. I loved it then, and I love it now! I love the unsettling way The Force manifests in Leia here. And Han's trepidation until he connects her use of The Force with her love and desire to protect and heal him. Wonderful way to illustrate Han's trust issues, and also why Leia is someone he's let in, despite that. I love it! |
addyfox chapter 1 . 5/1/2017 So good. I'm full of the love for this story! It's great to see Han dealing with a force sensitive Leia- his love for her is challenging his world view yet again and starting to open up those deeper aspects of his character even wider. So many lines which totally nail his character too- "but she was asleep and there was no way Han would disturb her" perhaps my favourite. |
luv15 chapter 1 . 5/1/2017 Beautifully crafted, so thoughtful and true to character. Nice to read that Han didn't skip away unscathed from his own nightmare experiences...that he has dimension and depth. Leia is awesome as ever. Love that character. Still trying to forget what TFA did to these two. Never gonna happen in my head canon. Thanks so much for sharing. Please keep writing. You have a gift...and you give me happy Leia and Han. ; ) |
