Just a reader chapter 14 . 8/5/2018 Music recommendation: Come,Join Us - Fire Emblem:Shadow dragon (I feel this fits for this fanfic) Conquest - Fire Emblem: Awakening (Fragments searching for fragments) Fanfic recommendation: Fort Haste: Winter by Zencolour (It is very good but it needs recognition, the author is a nice guy from what I can tell.) The Black Dawn by 1Noir (I read this alongside your fanfic to pass the time, it is very well done, but it has not been updated since march.) Love your stuff, keep up the work please. |
Just a reader chapter 14 . 8/5/2018 Just yes... that is one of the only ways I can speak about this chapter. The way you show glace's fear is perfect and Giratina's actions and dialogue fit him very well. I am guessing Giratina reads a lot of books in his free time if how he speaks about stories is anything to go off of. keep up the good work. |
Ambyssin chapter 14 . 8/2/2018 Well, I'm back... err, in a manner of speaking. I had reviewed the first five chapters over on Minty's little forum... and then I found you on FFN and, well, I got spooked because you're one of the "big leaguers," for lack of a better description... and that's intimidating for a little nobody like me. After some pep talking on Minty's part, I'm back for just a general overview of chapters 6-14. I figured that was easiest for me since, well, I don't see myself being able to dedicate several months toward trying to read the monstrous epics that are Broken Ideals and Silver Resistance. *nervous laugh* I guess to start off with, I'm going to say how surprised I ended up being with the direction these last nine chapters have taken. Like, the premise was pretty surreal out of the gate with regards to what Glace had to accomplish, but I somehow developed the mindset that you'd be approaching this in a formulaic fashion. Y'know, introduce us to the next spawn, have Glace find them, convince them to assimilate, and then move on. But, to your credit, you threw that premise completely out the window starting with Jera's home dimension and things got even crazier from there. In some respects, I feel like there's a meta level to this fic. With Giratina's introduction (sorry, but I'm not spelling out that super long name), you've introduced this theme of "narratives mortals wield for understanding." Maybe I'm interpreting this badly, but it almost seems like a crazy analogy for the realm of fanfic. Like with the parallel reality Giratina takes Glace to in chapter 14, two fanfics may be eerily similar, but there's always going to be some sort of difference. Even just a miniscule one. All the while, Glace's mind is progressively wearing thin, but I really like how you're approaching it. It's an inversion of what I feel like a lot of Pokémon fics do. Rather than putting an unskilled character into a scenario where they have to learn to fight for their life, you've taken a battle-hardened character and put her in a situation where she's forced to emotionally appeal to others... all while trying to reign in her own out of control thoughts. It didn't strike me how cool (pun intended) this was until this most recent chapter. I think part of what's made it grow so enjoyable for me is that, with the more recent chapters, you've been showing us actual memories of Glace, Yore, and Sonata rather than having them conveyed through some exposition, like you were doing with earlier chapters. Sonata's memories of her time in the guild were heartbreaking and seeing Yore freak out upon realizing he'd been gone for fifty years was unsettling... in a good way, of course! I think it helps that supporting characters leave an impression with me. Whether it's the uncomfortably stoic Grim, the little Eevee who wants to be a Vaporeon, or Ker's initial friend circle getting creeped out by her general disposition, they helped round out what'd be an otherwise minimalist cast. Giratina is a bit harder for me to wrap my head around, unfortunately, but I think that's kind of the point. I get this "up is down, down is up, truths are untruths" vibe reading all his lines. He's like some mishmash of the Cheshire Cat and a Tim Burton film character that would undoubtedly be played by Johnny Depp or Helena Bonham Carter. I... uh... hope that's what you were going for, anyway. Not everything's perfect for me. While Glace's mental companions have taken a bit of a back seat with these past couple of chapters, I still have a tremendous amount of difficulty differentiating whose thoughts are whose because you don't attribute them most of the time. I bring it up because every time I reached a "dialogue" between the main trio, I got bogged down trying to figure out who was thinking what. Maybe I'm just slow or something, but I thought I'd point it out anyway. Likewise, there are some bits of redundancy when it comes to the narration. I spotted this in chapter 14, for example: [Then finally there was the Malamar that Glace never liked, eating a helping of Remoraid at one of the tables. Glace never liked her.] It's not a huge dealbreaker or anything, just something to be aware of. Lastly, the eerie/spooky romantic subplot between Ker and Gallows isn't my jam. I think it's just a personal taste thing. A lot of their lines are very existential and abstract and I'm more of a logical person, so that was probably going to go over my head. Maybe I'll get a bit more invested as it moves forward, but for now it's just... there. Like it's a reminder that Ker still exists and is one of the spawns. I did get a kick out of the fact that there dynamic seems to be filled with sex euphemisms, at least. I'd argue the whole "eating one another's dread" is one giant innuendo, to be honest. Okay, that's all I've got. Not sure you're even going to see this, but at least it's out there. Nice work so far! I see why you're regarded so highly. |
Ray.Knight07 chapter 14 . 8/1/2018 Wow lol. Seeing you and ScytheRider update your stories at practically the same time after quite some lapse time is laughable, though I guessing since you two are good acquaintances, it probably wasn't a coincidence. This chapter, like the last one, really stresses the magnitude of the effect that this whole journey has on Glace. She started out as any normal character, dealing with the day by day moments of her life. But as the story progressed, little by little, you've been "breaking her narrative"; that is, shattering her perspective on literally everything. From learning her role in a larger, more infinite universe that is beyond mortal comprehension to having to adjust to the consequences of merging with other entities. Its a lot to deal with and I understandable why she would be so shook. Near the beginning, I thought she would eventually snap when I saw that merging with the other fragments meant not only dealing with their voices all in her head (which is bad enough...), but also feeling their emotions and experiencing their history in first person. Now, she has to accept the fact that she will no longer be 'Glace the Weavile' if she moves forward. Its a scary thought to know that you will lose your identity, which is literally all we mortals have if nothing else. But I'll give her credit for deciding, be it because of pride or a greater sense of morality. We'll see how she copes. Speaking of ScytheRider, you using one of his/her characters almost went completely over my head lol. The fact that you can write about Calamar being an instructor in some random small town really illustrates the versatility of the nature of this story. Playing concepts of parallel universes and dimensions where there are an infinite quantity of the same character in an infinite number of situations has its excitement, I'm sure. I'm happy "Giratina" brought up Jera, because I've been wondering how she has been since being scared so bad that she left the children she'd kidnapped. Though I'm patient and know that you probably have a time for her to show back up, I look forward to reading about her again and just seeing where her head is at. Good job with this chapter! |
WyldClaw chapter 1 . 7/31/2018 what an amazing start |
Mcgear04 chapter 14 . 7/31/2018 Woo an update. I had so much anxiety building up in me for the past 2 and a half months, waiting for what happens next. It was worth it. |
Ray.Knight07 chapter 13 . 5/5/2018 Sorry for the long delay. Took a much needed break from FFN (other priorities), and it took me a little longer to get caught up with this story. My opinions on chapter 12: entertaining enough. It served its purpose if the point of it was to move things forward from their previous encounter the dark godlike being. Glace has my sympathies. Honestly. My DEEPEST sympathies. If I had all these beings molded into my head, each one capable of speaking, feeling and extensively influencing my conscience, I'd go insane lol. In a way, she appears to still be trying to manage that aspect. Yore had such a superior influence her to the point that she mentally adopted his identity and essentially just became Yore in Glace's own body. That's kind of scary... "Giratina" has now joined the party as well. Heh. Interesting decision. I'd like to imagine giving the protagonists an immortal, powerful entity as an ally will make things easier for them, but its too early to tell. You've made it clear that these god creatures, for all their power, are rather complacent in terms of interventions. Giratina is suppose to be a symbol of the reverse world, darkness, and the ominous. I've seen it portrayed differently in different stories (e.i. its the symbol of the spirit world in Silver Resistance). In this story, its a more grand entity that represents something bigger in the cosmic realm, like Yog-Sothoth (I sincerely hope I spelled that correctly). Will there be more clarity on what it represents later? Or can you explain without spoiling? Chapter 17: Yay, another episode of Sex and Immortality lmao! I can tell you are having a lot of fun playing with Ker, Gallows, and everything they stand for. I think you'll have just as fun of a time showing us how you will, possibly in some sadistic way, part them and unite Ker into the group. You foreshadowed a sense of building tension or dread being seeded between the two (in Gallows particularly), and that "Giratina" will somehow work a miracle and get Ker to accept the group's pleading invitation. I have a few predictions, but I guess we'll see soon where you are going with this. So far, the pace of this story has been very steady; not necessarily slow, but much more reserved than I thought it would be. I can't fault or criticize it because you're obviously shooting for a different kind of story overall with a different pace and theme than your previous one. Its still dark, but more philosophical and thought-provoking than a thriller or gripping suspense. I said it before, but its clear you like to use allusions, parallels, and connections to other stories or the real world to decorate you own stories and make them come to life; its a real strength of yours. This story has you drawing from Lovecraft's ideology and characters. Its curious to me since I haven't read a fanfic that taps this much into the supernatural fundamentals of life and reality. In any case, it all makes for an entertaining casual read. Good job and look forward to the next chapter! |
Guest chapter 13 . 4/20/2018 Is that an update? WTH? This is unheard of! |
Mcgear04 chapter 13 . 4/20/2018 AYYYY! Your back! Finally, I missed your work man. While you were gone, I caught up to the story and I absolutely love everything you did. Keep up the great work, I wait excitedly for your next entry:) |
1Noir chapter 4 . 3/14/2018 Alright, I decided I'd do a review after yore's assimilation, so the time has come. So, I kind of took a good sized hiatus after chapter 2 and had to remember exactly what was going on in this story. It was surprisingly easy to jump back into SS, despite the lengthy break and only having 2 chapters of prior experience with this story. So, we got to meet Yore, and he seemed like an interesting character, despite how monotone he seemed. His life seemed to be a really empty one with spending every single day on that tower, and from what it sounded like he didn't even get days off. That sounds like Hell, working dawn to dusk nonstop everyday. But this is also what added to his flaw of his character, doing something that didn't make him happy, just so he could keep others from being disappointed with him. Also, I found it weird that genders was his reason for disbelieving Glace. I get that it was covered, but the logic was a bit funny, and I mean all that in a good way. Also, I have to wonder why Yore is concerned with how many other fragments are male and female. I think your focus on this story is undoubtedly more based off character interactions, and I love seeing more of your writing in a less depressing tone. Glace seems like an awesome protagonist, and Sonata also adds some good parts too. And with all tbese voices talking in her head, it's like she's in a 24/7 discord group call. I can only imagine how awkward that could be at times... can't even get some privacy for anything. All in all, this story seems promising, and I love how it's more focused on character interactions than focusing on fighting or other elements. Well, I'm writing this on my phone, so I think I'm going to leave this review somewhat shorter. |
Adamfics chapter 8 . 1/21/2018 Huh, I didn't expect Glace and Jera to split up into two groups. I guess this story won't be as long as I thought it'd be. Perhaps you were trying to avoid Glaces confrontation with the fragments to not occur for so long to be repetitive? The part where Sonata's memories overwhelmed Glace was interesting for sure. It makes me wonder whether it'll reach a point where their memories will merge so much to the point where she can't tell which are hers and which aren't. Would be an intriguing dilemma to face for sure. Ker is up next, right? Oooh boy, I'm excited already |
Adamfics chapter 7 . 1/16/2018 I thought a lot about Jera's character for a while, and after seeing the way the children she abducts are turning out, I suppose what she's doing is arguably justifiable. I mean, there are already agencies irl that take children away from abusive parents. The only difference here is that Jera isn't authorized in any to do what she does and doesn't allow the children the chance to meet their parents ever again nor does she hive the parents a chance to better themselves for the sake of their children. It's quite sly of Glace to pretend to be one of Jera's old children, and I also liked the part where Sonata helped her with her lie to Lapis I think? However, I wonder what will happen now that Jera knows the truth. If anything, it'll be difficult for her to accept it and leave all those kids behind. Good chap. Tenouttaten |
Adamfics chapter 6 . 1/15/2018 Wow, I did not expect Xerneas to be Glace and Co's original self, though I suspect that it's just a red herring for an even bigger mind blowing revelation. Still, it begs into question what really caused their original self to really split in the first place. Must've been a major disaster to have actually caused that. By the way, is it bad that I kind of wanted Jera to be caught while she was kidnapping that Wooper? I mean, I really felt Glace's reaction when she found out just what she helped make possible. Such a realization can really shake someone up. And it's weird that Jera called her a child even though she's an adult, though a 20yr old is in fact a kid compared to an old lady. Just just hope that someone helps Jera wake up from her self righteous rift sooner or later. Makes me wonder just what motivated her to start her kidnapping spree to begin with. |
Adamfics chapter 5 . 1/4/2018 Well, this chapter had me feeling mixed somewhat about Jera's actions. On one hand, I can see that she's helped those kids she's been collecting all those years, on the other hand, I'm not sure how I feel about the fact that she essentially a kidnapper. Good intentions or not, that fact won't change. I guess the ends justify the means, I don't know... While some of those kids had horrible parents no doubt, I imagine some of them were all the more devastated by losing their children like that. Ah, I kept on rambling back there. Anyway, this chapter was good. It's nice that you dedicate a chapter to introduce these characters before Glace gets to meet them. bb |
Adamfics chapter 4 . 1/2/2018 Honestly, everything about Yore is just depressing, and whenever he speaks, I just imagine sounds of silence playing in the background. I feel that I appreciate sad backstories like this one that aren't as tragic as they are just plain sad, but it's a good thing everything worked out in the end. Well... more or less anyway. There are many more things that happened in this chapter that I feel I should comment about, but I'll just leave that for when I make a cumulative review. For now, I'll just sit back and enjoy this wondrous work of art. |
