Another well thought-out story. One of the issues I want to explore in my own work is Gabriella's insincerity. You've touched on a very pertinent issue: that the only reason she became friends with Ryan was to make Troy jealous. I share your view that Troy wasn't doing anything wrong during this movie, and even though I don't ship Tryan, the fact that Ryan refused to accept an Troy's unnecessary apology speaks volumes as to his sincerity. Ryan was used by Gabriella, which I consider to be far worse than anything Troy did during this film. She went out of her way to hurt and humiliate him for missing ONE date (since when was cheeseburgers in the kitchen a proper date?), and ignored all of Troy's attempts to rectify the situation. On top of all that, she quit the job that Troy secured on her behalf (she being the one who told him that she hoped one of his summer activities included a job) just because of something SHARPAY did, along with the patently false accusation that Troy had "changed".

How is it that Kelsi, who was writing music for the show, did not quit after Sharpay's interference? (And neither did she blame Troy. I have a feeling that Ryan wouldn't have done so, either). I'm venting, I know, but these stories and your excellent meta have really opened my eyes here. In my Trelsi fics, I really want to deal with the Lava Springs debacle and how Kelsi was literally the only one who didn't crucify Troy for daring to think about his future.

Also, I enjoyed your comment RE Gabriella's "singing". I find it intolerable. It's so fake and overwrought, just like Gabriella herself.

Keep these stories coming. It's so depressing having to trawl through saccharine Troyella crap. Has no one heard of any other pairing? I'm Trelsi all the way, but I enjoy these Tryan stories. Ryan is a thoroughly decent, caring and polite person and your understanding of his insecurities definitely brings a depth to these stories. Good work.
