Great story. Description of artery that "ran under the kidney and through the stomach and directly to the heart" is anatomically incorrect. There is no artery that runs through the stomach and then directly to the heart. It would be better to say metal was touching the lower abdominal aorta which would cause an instantaneous bleed out if it had actually pierced it and was keeping pressure on the tear it made. Removing the metal in that scenario would be like removing "the finger in the dike" which is why impaled objects are never removed in the field, but are left in place until patient is in theater. Looking forward to the next chapters!
