Kean had no mercy on Einar, did he? He blocked the path, shoved him forward, and harassed him mercilessly. Good work, Kean. Einar didn’t lose all his reservations at one go, and I find that more believable than him suddenly getting on board with having dragons around. I’m glad he’s got some confidence back and is willing to persist. When I read Sylvi’s words to Kean “What madcap thing have you done now?” I wondered if Kean was an older version of Hiccup. She hasn’t seen her brother in three years, and that’s one of the first things out of her mouth? Yeah, Hiccup might have found a kindred spirit. The women’s desire to bond with the dragons was fun to read, though I do feel sorry for Helga. I wouldn’t mind seeing more of Hertha at the forge; she looks to be a strong and determined woman, very different from Hiccup.

I enjoyed the gradual transformation of Einar, watching him laugh and stand tall and gamble on the dragons being friendly. Hiccup telling him he was dragon bait—was Hiccup a dimwit, scaring the man like that, or was it intended as a joke?

One thing I wonder about is if Hiccup and Astrid will start missing Berk. Einar is Stoick’s age, a Chief, and lives on an island ravaged by dragons. He’s discovered the truth about dragons. It’s reminiscent of Stoick. It wouldn’t surprise me if Hiccup heads back toward Berk after his encounter with Drago ends.

I’m glad you posted these last two chapters about Elige; the characters are great and watching the gradual transformation of the villagers is lovely. Whiskerface

Hello, it’s me again, with a few thoughts. I enjoyed the exchange between Astrid and Kean, especially when she told him, “Meet the real Hiccup.” He and Toothless are such show-offs. I also found Kean’s soreness from the long ride amusing. When I read your description of Kean’s home village, I wondered if anyone would be living there still, it was so desolate. I found Einar believable, with his doubt, fear, and desire to look out for his people.

One note: In scene two, sentence two, you wrote about Toothless saddle. In American English, that would be written as Toothless’ saddle, with an apostrophe after the s, I think. Don’t quote me, but you might see if there’s a similar convention for you.
