Good job! You have a few typos (wrong word usage type that spellcheck doesn't catch) that a re-read in a week or so might help you catch. (I certainly find and fix my fair share of those that way in my own work.)

You avoided the 'rush to publish' errors that were in the first incarnation of your first chapter as well. Nice work making the action, exposition and planning all flow together without leaving any obvious plotholes.

One side thought that kinda tied into an idea I've noodled at attacking. You've got this group heading out to find 'just anywhere' they can be safe and re-establish a civilization. The idea I've considered is doing an Old BSG/New BSG cross, where the Old BSG crew comes across the New BSG Cyrannus system 200,000 years after the Cylon Holocaust (in time with the New BSG series epilogue), to discover the roots of their own culture... All while running from their own Cylons... A story like yours could be a springboard into one like that.

While the idea you've come up with is a good one and I'll keep an eye on how it continues, at times I found it quite confusing to read. You introduce things out of nowhere without any explanation and I had to go back and see if I'd missed something. I hope you manage to fix any issues because you've got the makings of a great idea.
