Making the man a Jew brings a level of depth to this, particularly to his statement, 'There's always men like you.' His decision not to bow any longer is poignant. And I absolutely loved the parallel you put in of the Americans dropping out of the sky and saving them.
Also - the irony. Loki was absolutely right - this man is a great example. His courage is inspiring.

Hell yes. I wish more people would write that old man. That wonderful, brave old man who had knelt once, but never again. This little old man, bent with age, scarred by mistreatment, he stood with more power than any of the Avengers that day. He stood with words.

Oh, I love this. I love fic that explores the outsider POV and I've always loved that moment in The Avengers because it felt so very authentic and organic. A Jewish man, having lived through hell, who would rather die than allow it to happen again... and then history, after a fashion, repeats itself. So good.

Not much has been done with this character, partially due to his limited screen time. You took what was given and stretched it just enough to give a depth and poignancy, but not too much; it still felt very natural. I'm not generally a fan of minimalist writing, but this was done in perfect taste. Well done.
