Reviews for Doing it my way
dreamjanus chapter 1 . 6/28
How much or how many is a heap?
Harry got a heap of clothes and CD's.
Kai chapter 16 . 6/13
From Hogwarts to Ottery St. Catchpole isn't "a short trip" for an owl. It's considerably shorter than flying to Egypt, but it's not short. It's almost from one end of the island to the other. It'd be shorter for a human, being able to apparate and all.

Harry is awfully friendly towards Ronald, Ginevra, and Hermione here. He even forgot to ignore everything they say.
Kai chapter 15 . 6/13
That's an interesting idea. Most authors interpret the gauntlet as a test for Harry or some demented training exercise the boy never asked for. But trying to kill him, and actively choosing other children to die at his side is harsh. And the idea "I will murder my way through my friends and dozens of innocents I should rather protect, just to ensure that The One is killed, but I'll give the bad guys, people who rape and torture children to death for fun, a second chance. And a third. And a fourth. And a twenty seventh. And a three hundred thirty ninth. Because killing them would upset the stability of my, er... our of course, society." is the craziest I've ever seen. Though not impossible, sadly...
Kai chapter 14 . 6/13
Hm, after thinking about it for a moment: Harry and Tom are not the only two people able to open the access to the Chamber of Secrets. They're just the only ones able to open it in a way that it can be closed again without cleaning up rubble and transfiguring a new entrance-lock-thing. A bombardment curse would most probably work. Just, no one knew where to cast one before.

I liked that Harry found scrolls in Slytherin's library instead of the thousands of books other authors bless him with. At the end of the tenth century AD books were really really rare. It was more than four centuries before printing with movable types was reinvented in Europe, and hand-written texts, arduously copied in scriptoria of monasteries, were usually codices instead of books until Gutenberg made it a lot easier to produce books with his movable type printing press.

Voldemort is surely not interested in producing a son. Why should he? There is no family line. He doesn't need nor want a family line. If you're immortal you don't need to care for such trivialities of other people's lives. All you do is creating someone with the same ancestors and your murdering personality. That positively screams "produce the person who WILL try to usurp and kill you and get your power. The power that you don't give up voluntarily. Because, why should you?".
Kai chapter 7 . 6/12
Sirius always calls Harry "pup". I have no idea if that's in canon as well or just a fanfic phenomenon, I haven't read the books in a very long time. But it's not nice. Because how ever you look at it, a pup is a son of a bitch. And considering Sirius' pureblood upbringing in a very dark house and Lily's blood status!? When even the Weasleys don't talk to their squib relative and look down on Fleur as a half breed...
Kai chapter 2 . 6/12
Oh, Dumbledore knew about Harry's living condition all right. He even tells him in canon. Perhaps you have different ideas for this story, but canon!Dumbledore knew. He tells Harry in his face, not, that he put him with the Dursleys because it was the best for this reason or that, and in the mean time found out that Harry's life was less than optimal. He says that he knew in advance that he would be mistreated. He knew that Harry would have "ten dark and difficult years before him".

And all those weirdly dressed people that greeted Harry during his childhood, were they colour-blind gypsies, or what? No, they were purebloods, and purebloods have NO reason AT ALL to be in Little Whinging someplace between 4, Privet Drive and Harry's primary school exactly during Harry's walk to school. There's no one magical around, the dementor affair doesn't take place at Harry's residence and it's still automatically assumed that it was Harry.

And no one except paedophiles looks at children so closely that they can memorise or recognise their faces. Not even when the child does something noticeable, like running into the adult, or screaming. Except perhaps if it's injured. And it's just not possible that anyone recognises Harry's similarity to a primary school aged James who lived half a country away when he was that age. After all, why SHOULD a pureblood look at muggle children at all? They're all the same. Except to decide which one to abduct to rape and torture to death for the fun of hearing them scream.

No no, Dumbledore KNEW!
