I understand that you dont want to make shiro too powerfull but even with his elemental affinity and origin of sword the magecraft types/styles/spells shiro should be able and might have learned to make up for his specialization without a having a normal elemental affinity and origin are runes, alchemy, material transmutation which is the basics, formalecraft, witchcraft, bounded fields, non-elemental magecraft, reinforcement, alteration, structural grasp, as long as he had someone to teach him which in this case would have been Rin tosaka and since Rin would kinsider shiro a friend she would have been willing to teach him and would have forced him to learn more than just the basics and shiro would listen and do this as learning only the basic is one of the reason why counter guardien EMIYA eventualey had to ask the world/alya for power. also it hinted that in canon Rin has a chest in her workshop that containes items which were given to her ancestore and are connected to the 2nd true magic like a kalidoestick, which if she did find she could have give it to shiro to use it to acesses his parralel counterparts from other versiones of the grail wars alliwing the same bleeding effect to happen to shiro that happened to him in the UBW blade works rout when he fought counter guardien EMIYA.
