Reviews for Lilacs in the Louis-Philippe Room
Lisle987 chapter 72 . 3/3
I am very late to this party, but I just had to say how wonderfully well-written this story was. It's certainly a hidden gem amongst phanfics, especially Leroux based ones, which can sometimes become too gloomy. This rode such a fine line, so that the reader had the same complex feelings for Erik that Christine did. I personally see the ending as the happiest one possible, because in the end, everyone got what they wanted. This story started in sadness, but it ended in emotional satisfaction, at least for me. Thanks for this, and I hope you continue your work.

Thanks for the great story. I enjoyed it very, very much. Loved it! And thanks for the happy ending (I followed your advice and didn't read the epilogue, because I really love E/C and cute endings). You are a very talented writer.
Qtkittee chapter 72 . 2/1/2019
That was an epic story full of angst and love too. Thank you for the ending which gave me peace because the characters grew. Thank you for writing this.
SuperSecretSummer chapter 72 . 9/23/2018
Spectacular. Beautifully written, intriguing, and you wrote the stress and trauma of actually being married to someone with Erik’s issues very well.
You also managed to have a happy ending for both E/C and R/C! Erik’s ending was sad, but he had at least 13 years with a willing wife! And then Christine was finally able to be with her sweetheart! Well done!
SuperSecretSummer chapter 17 . 9/22/2018
“Erik does not take kindly to noses!” HA! Fantastic, I love it.
Gabriezzu chapter 71 . 8/18/2018
Since I am not brave enough to read the epilogue, specially because Leroux-accurate fanfics have the tendency to either end bittersweetly or simply bad for Erik and Christine, I will pretend this is the definite end.
First and simply: God, I loved it. I read it in two days, which is extremely quick for me taking in account that it usually takes me whole weeks for a 25 chapters type of story! I don't think I even read this story, I think I DEVOURED it.
I said it before but I will say it again: I loved your Erik. He was so unpredictable but at the same time not. Is love for his daughter was heart-warming, and his reactions so heartbreaking. I loved him a lot. A LOT.
I enjoyed this story so much! Definitely one of my favorites now, specially because of this satisfying ending! But I must say, I didn't really... feel like Christine ended up with Erik because she truly got to love him, and it sounded more like "I'm stuck with you, so I'll better learn to love you", which was fine for a while, but at the end of the story it still leaves you with that sensation. I guess I cannot ask for anything else, since either way this was not labeled as a romance story. I guess my shipper heart can just never be satisfied. Oh, well! Loved this story so, so much!
Gabriezzu chapter 51 . 8/18/2018
These two are a rollercoaster of emotions, I swear! Some moments it looks like they might progress enough to become a somehow stable couple, then they regress. I guess it's something to be expected, specially from Erik, whose sanity is... well, not very present all the time. Now, I must admit that I love "selfish" Christine (it just emphasizes that 1: she's not perfect; she's a human being. And 2: she still has the fire that characterized her so much in the novel), even if I don't love the effect it has on Erik. His blind devotion for her is heartbreaking, but I guess that is the only way he knows how to express love.
I must admit, during various chapters I was worried that Erik had actually been the cause of Christine's miscarriage, or that he disliked the idea of the baby altogether, but it seems that he's more afraid because of his own excitement than anything.
Ah, long comment short, I'm still loving your story! I'm hoping things become better for these two, though! A little more balance, respect, and communication would suit these two very, very much!
Gabriezzu chapter 14 . 8/17/2018
I'm merely 14 chapters in, but I'm loving it beyond words. Your Erik is perfect in that wicked, strange, and miserable way that only the character of Erik can be, and for the first time I find myself completely understanding and sharing Christine's feelings towards him and the whole situation. I find your Erik crazier and scarier than in the majority of the original book, which is perfect because I can now share the fear Christine had, and not only her pity. I also love Christine; so brave and kind even when she's going through hell. So book-accurate! You completely captured both their essences! Wonderful story3!
TheNonBinaryCanary chapter 72 . 8/4/2018
I felt an intense need to re-read this and now I regret it.
In a good way, promise!
Pensez-a-Erik chapter 71 . 5/31/2018
Five kids! Those two are pretty fertile, I guess
Pensez-a-Erik chapter 70 . 5/31/2018
Well I'm glad you didn't go with your original ending- I don't think I would have been able to handle it :(
Pensez-a-Erik chapter 69 . 5/31/2018
Uh oh. I think I know what's gonna happen.
Pensez-a-Erik chapter 68 . 5/31/2018
Glad to finally hear the reasoning behind the Lilacs. Poor Erik.
Pensez-a-Erik chapter 67 . 5/31/2018
God I wouldn't be surprised if she dies by falling down the stairs at the end this fic, lol
Still enjoying it! Hope Christine ISN'T dead, and I really like Anne-Marie.
Pensez-a-Erik chapter 44 . 5/30/2018
