Why would she think “of all this I could have been mistress” if she’s only known him engaged to Caroline at this point?

Original story where Caroline is engaged to Darcy prior to him coming to Hertfordshire. How did this come to be? When and how will they get married? What will this mean for Jane &Bingley? And what about Elisabeth?

If only Bingley had pulled the trigger and shot Caroline and Wickham.

Wow! Caroline really is gullible and treacherous. She and Wickham deserve each other, but I wouldn’t wish him on anybody. Please tell me he falls into the nearest river, gets run over by Lady Catherine’s carriage, or is shot by someone he has upset.

I have the worst suspicion that Caroline and Wickham are involved. That would be bad news for her family, but good news for Darcy and Elizabeth. I began to suspect it when they were both in London. I can’t believe she is that stupid, but he is a master at flattery, and she lies to herself all the time, so it would make sense.

Enjoyable story. I wonder though, given the situation Caroline was in, why she didn't take up Darcy's agreement with having a double wedding with bungled with alacrity. Yes, she despises the Bennets, but it would get her married to him sooner, which was her goal.

I understand why Bingley and Darcy pursued them, but a part of me feels they should have just let them go. And what about him being a deserter. With him married to Caroline, it's not like he was under anyone's radar. And desertion, especially during a time of war was serious business. They could have used that as leverage against him too.

I take it Darcy had compassion on Bingley and let him know Jane cared for him, thus his return to Meryton.

I'm terribly confused as to why Darcy has to pay off Wickham to marry Caroline. Caroline has a dowry of £20000 and all her jewelry. Darcy and Bingley have the upper hand. They can simply force them to marry. And why does Darcy have to front the money? Caroline is Bingley's sister. She got herself in this situation. Why should Darcy have to pay? Bingley is not without sufficient funds.
