Reviews for Golden Ashes
Guest chapter 25 . 3/16/2019
Love all your stories but I think the modern Mary and Matthew are my favorites. It’s interesting that Mary is always in the position to be tempted. Surely Matthew could be as well? Thank you!
AmeriGirlTN chapter 25 . 2/2/2019
After rereading this modern AU, I really think you should do a thriller a la Jason Bourne starring our favorite couple. It’d be a new genre for you and one that would showcase your immense writing abilities. Please say you will. We all miss your writing so very much.
AmeriGirlTN chapter 25 . 1/9/2019
Okay, if I have to beg, can we please have an epilogue of this fabulous trilogy? You know, I consider this some of your best work. Pretty please?
arients chapter 25 . 11/30/2017
I literally finished your Celebrity trilogy in 4 days inside a school week. Its just that good. Thank you for this story.
AmeriGirlTN chapter 25 . 8/1/2017
Just read your celebrity trilogy for the second time and I want to thank you for sharing your immense writing abilities with us. The plotting, the dialogue, the research into this industry that obviously took considerable time - everything is perfect. The only complaint that I have is that the series ended with so much of their story left to be told. I hope that means you'll revisit this universe you've created in the very near future. Thanks again, you're a rock star.
Longtime Guest chapter 25 . 7/14/2017
It's taken me 3 rereads of Ch. 25 before I was ready to review, largely because I found Mary so frustrating in GA. The GA Mary is burdened by her family's acting legacy and by having to find her way in an industry obsessed with the looks/the shell rather than the beauty and intelligence within. You make very clear all the difficulties and barriers faced by a talented actress to get any role much less a fulfilling one. And yet, I can't give into being fully empathetic with Mary because she continued to want to play games with the French filmmakers and find herself in such uncomfortable situations. I guess I am not as understanding as Matthew, and your trilogy did not make me want to be in show business. That being said, you continue to write detailed and fascinating M/M stories. I appreciate the complexity of your characters, and I am so thankful that you continue to share your writing talents with M/M fans.
Palindrome310 chapter 25 . 7/11/2017
Thank you for this wonderful story and the whole series. I loved your thoughts about real life in the author's note, you leave enough unanswered but with Matthew and Mary together and on the right track (it reminded me of Gangs of London ending although that ended with a sword hanging). The only pressing doubt is Palladin, the movie! lol, a good parallel of DA movie current status.

Honestly, you got me with that Xavier part. I was genuinely worried and I didn't worry about the masquerade! It's really about the timing, I was thinking "NO! Mary, no, please, remember what happened the last time someone wanted to "lose herself" and how that ended!" but then I doubted because Mary, with good reason, started to ponder why she let the Xavier thing last so long and that it was much more exciting not to depend on anyone. Mary realising she is better than those games, finally!

I'm glad that Matthew and Mary actually mentioned my thoughts, of course, ha, ha: that Rooney winning wasn't a commeuppance and that it didn't mean that it would have happened the same thing if she had accepted the role, also, that they were human and it was OK to be annoyed. They really know each other and support the other emotionally, to the point that Matthew can joke about the attention he receives.

Mary is still working her career but is managing it, she can be genuinely glad about Matthew's success, and handle the way the journalist make the questions about him. Matthew genuinely tries to trust and not be controlling, it isn't easy but he believes it. So, we leave them with lessons learned and with their own home where all was over once.

I really liked that we know that Isobel is still at Downton, I'm glad she isn't alone and that they aren't simply tolerating her but sharing with her (I loved that she keeps beating Robert, ha). I'm glad there was a quiet moment for missing Violet, even if Isobel reluctanly agreed with Violet about Mary being a good mother. A mix of intimidation and sofistication is a good character summary.

Anna was already filling her PA role at the wrap party! I don't know if she actually wants to keep being Mary's assistant, I see her working but maybe she should think the possibility of being another thing, I never had the feeling that was what she actually wanted do to as a career.

Nice details: Sybil "I came for the party" Crawley, lol. Very nice speech at Damocles' wrap party, "If it isn't easy, you are doing it right" is a nice thought. Mary making generosity competitive, good one, Matthew. Tom, conveniently dropping his baby at Downton, complaining to Matthew about the "struggle" and his fake outrage about toffs, you managed to convey his character's arc in later series. "They don't care enough to talk on our backs", lol. The whole part when Mary said obviously Kinglsey was attached to her because of his excellent taste and because she isn't Edith, ha. Nice that Cora told Mary that she was proud of her career and not only push her to reproduce. Mary using the children argument to convince Matthew. Of course Matthew is an equal pay believer.

P.S: Now that I finished with the review, OMG! YES! I'm so glad you are still with us! I was bracing myself for the possibility that this was the end, I was going to be sad but accept it because I truly think that it's almost too much luck and more than we deserve but now I'm glad I don't have to worry about it yet! :D
Sakuar chapter 25 . 7/10/2017
I found these stories a few weeks ago and I read them all together. It was great! I'm loving the series and really hope it will continue!
Sugie chapter 25 . 7/10/2017
I'm sorry it looks like Mary will be doing the Paladin film after all, but at least she'll have Anna. She'll need all the help she can get too, dealing with her idiot co-stars. And I'm not surprised, but very impressed with Matthew and his stance on equal pay for women. Just when you thought he couldn't get any more appealing...*sigh* Mary is so lucky.

Cora really surprised me here when they were at Downton. When she came to Mary's room for a little talk, as soon as she started in with her line about Sybil & Edith being wonderful mothers I thought here we go. But she was actually complimentary and supportive for once. What a welcome change.

I'll admit, I was getting a little nervous as the scene with Mary and Xavier progressed at the HBO party. Even though I was sure logically that nothing would happen, I was still anxious! which is a testament to your skill as a writer. The evening ended perfectly for M/M that night back at home. Matthew always seems to know the best way to handle Mary in times like those.

I'm sorry to see this trilogy come to an end, but thank you so much for all your hard work and for being so consistent. And I'm SO pleased and relieved :P that you plan on continuing, in fact I'm off to start the new story now. Can't wait to find out what it's all about!
DAGuest chapter 25 . 7/9/2017
Oh no...I didn't see this story coming to an end so quickly. I was hoping for a few more chapters, especially to see how Damocles affects Mary and Matthew's career. I'm glad that Mary's taking a break and not rushing into her next project. Yeah, Mary and Matthew are setting roots with their new home, and I loved how Mary stated that she was going to make it a "home" for them. Loved that the family remembered Violet during the holidays and recognized how right she was for Mary and Matthew to be together. Wow, Rooney's win was a surprise. Henry was just as annoying as ever. Of course, Xavier had to make a presence but I was so happy that Mary chose to seek Matthew out instead of joining him for drinks. I liked how we saw Mary's train of thought with regards to Xavier but her deciding not to go with him, we get to see her start to break away from the French influence. Love seeing Mary's drunk confidence with Matthew ;) Matthew and Mary's interview together was perfect regarding their professional and personal life! Great ending! I do hope we see an epilogue in the future...please...Thank you so much for this wonderful trilogy. Loved it from start to finish! So happy to read you're not done with Mary and Matthew yet!
DAGuest chapter 24 . 7/9/2017
So sorry for the late review! Truly enjoyed this chapter. From the start, I liked how Mary relied on Matthew's internet fanbase to find her inspiration in the next scenes. Loved reading Mary and Matthew's scene together. Missed them acting together! You can definitely feel Mary's frustration after speaking with Rosamund, and I agree it would be a set back to do a Paladin movie. Denzel's wig wearing sounded hilarious, and I loved that Matthew was so in tune with Mary's mood and knew she needed a laugh! Glad to see Anna and Alex are in a happy place! Happy to read that babies are on Mary's mind and I'd love to see how she would handle motherhood and stardom especially when she hasn't reached the status she's seeking yet. However, I'm so happy to see Mary realize that she doesn't have to do everything on her own and she acknowledged that to Matthew.
lilyrowan1 chapter 25 . 7/8/2017
I'm really sad that this is the last chapter, but it was a wonderful one! I especially loved Mary and Matthew's conversation, Matthew admitting to being angry at having lost (loved the line about pointing a camera at JL) and also loving the attention he gets-such a revelation to Mary. They had such a good, honest conversation that reflected how strong their relationship is. What a journey you have taken us on-I really want a part four, or at least an epilogue or two or three! In any event, thank you, and I'm so glad you're not done with Mary and Matthew!
lilyrowan1 chapter 24 . 7/8/2017
Really loved Mary and Matthew's conversation about her career and how her perspective has evolved. As usual, when you quote dialogue from these movies that you invent, I want to see them in real life. And oh, if there has to be a Paladin movie, please, please, pleeeeeeze have Matthew be asked to direct! Even better, have him direct and be cast as the handsome knight from another realm! That would be delicious!
lilyrowan1 chapter 23 . 7/8/2017
Great chapter! Your description of the party-the masked guests, Mary dancing with different partners, her looking in the various rooms down the private hall-Aline!, her conversation with Geneviève, finally, her encounter with Xavier-was like watching a beautifully-filmed movie-French or perhaps Italian. Although you have left it up in the air, I have to believe that she never succumbed to Xavier. I like this new perspective on her career that she articulates to Anna. Clearly, Geneviève left a strong impression on her.
ameliapemerson chapter 25 . 7/8/2017
That was a most satisfying chapter. I really liked that conversation MM had after her drunk and tasteless conversation with Xavier. I'm always in awe of how you bring so much to your details ofc the film industry. I know you're not really finished with MM!
