Reviews for The Truce
Guest chapter 11 . 8/23
I love this particular story for several reasons. For the last few days of Oct. and most of Nov. 2019, I was a patient in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with a breathing tube. (I want to make it clear that I'm perfectly alright now, though). I hadn't discovered RP(the show) until Mar. 2020, and it was a little while longer to find the stories. After reading a lot of other stories, I found this one.
This story could/would work with any of the Rats having to get a respirator tube, but you chose Hitch. Hitch is my favorite character and not only has he had other hospital expiriences like me(his conditions being definitely harsher than mine), but we've has had the same expirience with the breathing tube. I know I can't possibly understand to any full extent what Hitch or any soldier has been through, but I take some comfort in the fact that Hitch would understand me.
Thank You so much.
emmalline chapter 11 . 2/27/2017
It is very good. Fairly accurate and has the right feel.
tullyfan chapter 11 . 1/22/2017
This was just a spell binding story overall...I loved this last chapter as Moffitt and Tully created a mirage of a jeep buzzing toward. away from, and all around the Germans, even falling off the jeep in a grand creshendo (sp?) , killing Wentz - the top bad guy in whole episode. Tully was able to use his expert driving skills, honed on the Kentucky backroads while avoiding federal prohibition agents, which Moffitt appreciated. And I liked the fact that troy got around to forgiving Dietrich; I'm not sure that Dietrich needed forgiving but Troy did. And Hitch got to sleep thru the whole chapter to heal for their next great raid. I LOVED THIS WHOLE STORY - all 5 guys were involved and personified their character's personality and experiences. Again this would have made a great multi-part TV episode.
tullyfan chapter 10 . 1/22/2017
I WAS GOING TO START MY REVIEW BY SAYING THAT I COULD (ignore caps) not sit on the edge of my seat now that hitch had appeared, and was alive. then I got to the end of the story and there was the latest cliff hanger with Moffitt and Tully in some danger. Tully got to go on watch duty for the ambulance at the beginning of the story, which at least is more interesting than baby sitting jeeps. Somehow Tully should have been driving the jeep with hitch in it; he was probably a better driver than Andy and had a greater personal stake in getting hitch to safety. As with many of your stories, I learned more about geography and the war. In this case knowing where the best wadis are, small enough to hide in and narrow enough to defend. so of course I must now read into the next chapter.
tullyfan chapter 9 . 1/21/2017
As usual, lots of suspense. Hitch does "his job", by faking unconsciousness while the Germans talk around and about him - the good guys, the doctor and Dietrich of course are doing their best to fool Wentz. Wentz explained he would have liked to question "the American" and then execute him afterwards (another example of German "humanity") This explains why Hitch was bandaged from head to foot - to hide his "burns" from
the curious. The poor doctor was walking on eggs trying to keep Hitch's identity a secret. Dietrich's "burial" of Hitch out in the desert was well explained. "we don't bury "them" the our own. Dietrich "lied smoothly" during the whole chapter with expertize to keep his promise to troy. finally the bad guy Wentz goads Dietriech about not capturing the RP on his own and resulting in a cliff hanger story and ending.
tullyfan chapter 8 . 1/20/2017
another cliff hanger. the next chapter will reveal "the plan". The meeting in this chapter was very tense and as expected, the author has done a great job in keeping us all on the edge of our seats. Everyone thought it was a trap: "I'd rather trust a rattler, than a female" (Troy sounded like a MCP at that point. I especially liked the link between the story and episode 1:2, and Troy's recognition of the doctor. Meanwhile back at the ranch, Tully was chief cook and bottle washer (an Americanism and perhaps a Kentuckyism). Troy has come up with intricate plans to protect them all from any trap and further injury. I also liked Troy's order to "drop the rakes"; I had just watched an episode online showing that strategy. Thankfully Dietrich is back to being a good guy, as I expected. My time for today is over.
tullyfan chapter 7 . 1/20/2017
Hitch lives! now there are enough chapters left to allow a heroic rescue. I knew Dietrich would "rescue" Hitch; I'm not sure why Troy thought that this all had been some treacherous plot on Dietrich's part to kill Hitch and perhaps Troy too. Dietrich was too good of a person to plan such a thing. I was glad that this chapter was from Hitch's POV. Hitch rejected panic and tried to calmly tried to assess his situation. He thought he was a mummy! He is the perfect "rat" for the author to put in this situation. The author is a hitch fan but I think that all the other 3 guys looked upon hitch as someone who looked so young that they all looked after his welfare. He is a "lad". I have time to read another chapter; the inauguration parade is almost over; my curiosity got the better of me.
tullyfan chapter 6 . 1/19/2017
It's like wondering "Who shot JR" advertising campaign over the summer after DALLAS had ended for the season... WHAT IS IN THE LETTER? Judging from the look on Troy's face it wasn't anything good. Once again, this chapter had a crescendo of suspense. And once again, Moffitt is the word of reason letting troy take the rifle shot and then another and another .Tully has to watch over Andy, whom he feels he has to protect in a way he wouldn't have to do with hitch. Does anybody remember of the actor who replaced Tully in those terrible (in my opinion) episodes when Tully had been "replaced? I have never watched those - was the replacement named Andy? Just curious. Tully near the beginning again expresses his hope that Hitch might still be alive. Troy and Moffitt discuss that possibility, I loved the image you described of the scene of the jeeps jumping over the dune down toward the convoy. The guys were pleased with the success of their raid on the convoy yet none of them felt really satisfied , but Moffitt did use an Americanism - "we did a bang up job." I liked the discussion about Dietrich's efforts to save the life of his youthful driver; but Troy 's low opinion of Dietrich, which might be revisited in another chapter. "I'm in no mood to play nice". "the lads" are babysitting the jeeps at the end, but the sgts hop aboard into the next chapter.
tullyfan chapter 5 . 1/19/2017
Lots of emotional talk and not much physical action in this chapter but of course this is a riveting chapter. Tully even cried! Your stories always raise the level of suspense from line to line within each chapter and from chapter to chapter overall. So with your multi chapter stories which I love so much because it's like reading 10 individual stories that are inter-connected with each other. Of course I liked Tully's key role in this chapter emotionally. Troy was just plain mad; Moffitt was practical and soothing as he so often is in moments of crisis. But we know things aren't right. Tully talks his head off, whereas if things were "right", he's be quietly going about his job, working on the jeeps, reading a book, taking a cat nap. He eagerly expresses his hope that Hitch isn't dead afterall. And he finishes up the chapter, hiding his unusual visible emotion.
tullyfan chapter 4 . 1/18/2017
Needless to say, I LOVED THIS CHAPTER! Lots of tully action and some funny parts too. This is a chapter that Tully fans will love to read. Any chapter whose first word is "Tully" is my kind of story. Tully had a premonition of disaster as he saw Troy and Hitch drive away. The German colonel began to "watch the youthful driver"and inadvertently to admire his relaxed and competent driving skills. (smart guy). The hilarious part occurs when Tully begins to wink at the colonel when he catches the German looking at him. And the guy was ironically is disappointed when Tully stops winking! All this is going on without Moffitt realizing what is going on. The German couldn't understand how the Allies could function with such lax discipline (sp?) and such a lack of respect for their superior officers. The Colonel compared Tully with his own driver; the latter didn't make the muster. I don't think Tully would have done well in the rrerman Army, nor would any of the othe guys. Then of course Tully pulled the rotor trick. I think this happened in an earlier story by someone. I still don't know what a rotor is , but it's been mentioned in another story by someone. So whatever it is, Tully of course was very smart to pull the rotor and prevent the Colonel from escaping. Such a smart guy! And of course the chapter ends with a smile from Tully as he sees the American plane appear to guard them as they get closer to the base. THIS WAS A GREAT CHAPTER AND HAS MADE MY DAY. Hopefully there will be similar chapters featuring my favorite "rat".
cimmer chapter 11 . 1/18/2017
Excellent story, very action packed. I really enjoyed the OC characters like the colonel's daughter. It read like an episode and I would have loved to see it on the screen. Thank you.
tullyfan chapter 3 . 1/17/2017
I had to go back and reread more carefully to verify that Troy really had to leave Hitch behind. I knew the situation was really bad if that had happened and poor Troy spends the last half of the chapter blaming himself for everything. I feel confident that Dietrich will work out something to rectify the situation in another chapter I liked some of the banter a the beginning of the story, where troy shows his white teeth (I always think he looks like he's baring his teeth when he smiles).
Greta of course causes all this mess including poor Hitch's injuries.
I hope of course Moffitt and Tully will start to play more of a role; hopefully they will ride to hitch's rescue. This is a real cliff hanger.
tullyfan chapter 2 . 1/16/2017
Another great chapter and of course the interaction between hitch and Greta was hilarious as was the conversation between Hitch and troy at the end, where hitch explained that he thought her attitude toward him was "softening" because she had helped with the gun and had lunged toward his leg. I laughed out loud at that one. Her"pasted smile" hadn't fooled that old romancer Hitch. I'll repeat this for at least the 20th time - these fan fiction stories are far better than the TV scripts especially in humanizing the guys and even the Germans.
pfrye chapter 11 . 1/16/2017
Outstanding!
Brosmom chapter 11 . 1/15/2017
Another great story. I told myself I'd read this two chapters a day. That didn't last long. I liked that you brought Dr. Friedrich back.
