I understand why Mirai wants to be in the academy (to be close to Naruto) but surely she must know that it’s selfish of her to take up class space & instructor time when she really should move on to independent study. At least Iruka is here, woo! Although, if Mirai had never been reincarnated into this universe would Bekko have taught Naruto until graduation? Or would Iruka have eventually replaced him anyway?

“We’ll burn that bridge when we get to it” LOL I love Mirai. Poor Shisui though - just back from a mission, completely exhausted, and still has to put up with Mirai’s bullshit. She was remarkably cavalier about showing him the Kyuubi and her past memories - what a little troublemaker. I can’t wait to see how this effects her relationship with Shisui going forward and what kind of plan they’re going to concoct to deal with the Uchiha massacre. I’m fully expecting Shisui to have some kind of delayed breakdown - there’s got to be existential consequences to having your world turned on its head by a six year old girl in the span of like, an hour.

There was a slight typo near to the end of this chapter that made me laugh. Instead of "Well, I screw this up and then I've managed to piss off an entire clan.” you wrote "Well, I screw this up and then I've managed to piss off an entire clam." You know, if anyone could manage to piss off a clam it would be Mirai. I’m glad she’s dipping her toe into clan politics - that’ll create some interesting drama going forward!

The use of henge for immature imitations had me cackling - arguments between shinobi kids must really be a whole new level of annoying.

I love Anko as an instructor in SI fics - Mirai is about to bump up her chaos metre by about a thousand.

I can’t believe Bekko didn’t get reprimanded, even privately - I mean, I get the Hokage not stepping in for day to day aggressions against Naruto & Mirai, but when an instructor is proven to have been mistreating them right in front of him? It’s almost like he’s condoning their mistreatment. Which I suppose makes sense for the way the village seems completely comfortable alienating the twins. Man I hate Hiruzen.

I hope that some new instructors doesn’t mean less time with Itachi, Shisui, Kakashi, and the other ANBU! We haven’t seen Shisui in a while - is the Shisui initiative still a go?

Mirai’s mind palace is so cool - I love the idea that she can operate it kind of like a pensive. I wonder what it is about her that makes her able to do this and nobody else - instinctive compartmentalization because of her past life, perhaps?

Wow, Kurama just keeps getting grouchier and grouchier. You’d think he’d be less self-sabotaging, huh? Also, can Kurama read her mind all the time, or only when she’s projecting to him directly? Mostly it seems like the latter, but occasionally he’ll respond to a stray thought that wasn’t intentionally directed toward him.

I’m starting to feel a bit of a Harry/Ron/Hermione vibe from Sasuke/Naruto/Mirai, at least academically. I’m glad they found friends in Chouji and Shikamaru, but surely at some point the twins will have to run into a canon character they DON’T get along with (like *cough cough* Sakura, who is SO mean to Naruto at the beginning of the anime).

I know that Nato is probably pronounced Nah-to because of the syllables in Naruto’s name, but I can’t stop hearing it in my head as Nay-to. Always makes me think that Mirai is calling him potato.

Hmmm I REALLY don’t like this Tonbo guy. At least it seems like Mirai is going to finally get a proper training regimen, rather than learning bits and pieces from four different instructors - although it would probably help if Tonbo wouldn’t try to stone her to death their very first training session. Also - I wonder if the Hokage caught her glance at Minato’s portrait?

I’m honestly surprised that nobody stuck up for Naruto and Mirai when Bekko was clearly being unfair - I would assume at least Sasuke would say something.

Hmmm I don’t trust this Tobitake guy - he gives me Mizuki vibes. Potential minor villain, perhaps?

I can’t believe Mirai got stabbed and Kakashi and/or Shisui didn’t hunt down the perps. I like the inclusion of Obito being Shisui’s brother - I’ve never seen that in a fic before, but it makes sense! Although wouldn’t Shuisui be a little more pained over his brother’s death, even if it has been a while?

The tone of the christmas bit feels a bit off - how and when did Mirai save up the money for all these things? Why does the whole scene feel so rushed? Why did she get gifts for absolutely everyone with no ready explication of why? It’s just a little weird and OOC, and breaks the flow of the chapter. It got better after she and Naruto met up with Itachi and Shisui, but I still didn’t really see the need for it - if the plot reasoning for it was so she could give Kakashi that necklace (which was such a sweet scene) it could have been incorporated differently.

I think Mirai’s development through her childhood is fairly realistic - we know from the anime that it’s possible for kids that young to achieve those kind of results, and she IS sort of cheating by having the logic and discipline of an adult. Knowing one jutsu at six and just beginning to learn how to use her elemental affinity is hardly overpowered.

The Kakashi scene almost made me cry! Family forever indeed... I wonder if he knows what he’s gotten himself into with the twins. Mirai, at least, will never let him have a moment’s peace after this. RIP Nu-nii.

I’m still enjoying grumpy Kurama - he’s like an especially pissy jōnin sensei. Can you imagine how mad he would be getting called Kurama-sensei or Kurama-senpai?

Oh man, Raidou is Uma? The Hokage must have seriously been out of his mind to assign Raidou and Genma to care for two infants. I’m surprised Mirai and Naruto made it out of toddlerhood in one piece.

Love that sweet sweet Shisui content - but am I missing something? Why were he and Genma so tense when Mirai asked him to help her learn to use her tanto? I suppose I’ll find out soon.

Aw Mirai and Naruto finally have a home! And Neko is back!

“The Shisui Initiative” made me grin. Mirai is so, so precious. I adore the way you’ve written Shisui, he makes me smile - a bundle of concentrated happy energy, like an intelligent prodigy version of Naruto. Do I ship Mirai and Shisui when they’re older? ... Maybe.

Oh Mirai :( Anxiety’s a bitch. She’ll have to get used to being without Naruto eventually, though, especially if she ever wants to be ANBU and take on missions.

I can’t wait to find out how the Kyuubi’s split chakra works - is his consciousness divided into two separate beings? Or does he exist as one consciousness in both of them simultaneously? The way you’ve characterized chakra in this story - especially Mirai’s chakra hypersensitivity - is endlessly fascinating.

I’m not sure how the Matron got away with kicking Naruto & Mirai out right under the Hokage’s nose - surely going against the orders of your village dictator is a punishable offence? Poor kids. At least Mirai is using the opportunity to pick up some new (less-than-legal) skills.

I was SO sure that your ANBU were OCs that the reveal of Mokin as Genma caught me completely by surprise, although I probably should have expected it. I’m excited to see more ANBU-Mirai interactions, especially now that she’s declared her goal to be one of them.

Oh man I hope Mirai can save Shisui... I never know how the Uchiha massacre is going to be played out in SI fics, but from the way you’ve already characterized the Uchihas and Mirai’s attachment to them, I’m sure it’ll be interesting!

So, I initially read this chapter title as “Fergalicious”. Whoops.

I have so much affection for Mokin and Uma - I hope they come back later. Lovable idiots. Who thought it was a good idea to put two ANBU with no child-rearing experience in charge of the village’s two most important orphans? (We know who - how Hiruzen ever got a reputation as a competent Hokage is beyond me)

I loved the inclusion of Little Lion Man (one of my fave mumford and son songs!) but it made me crack up trying to imagine singing it with no banjo accompaniment. Did Mirai just... pause whenever there was meant to be a banjo solo? I also realized I’ve apparently been hearing the lyrics wrong this whole time.

The concept that the Kyuubi’s chakra is split between the two of them is SO cool and not something I’ve seen in a SI fic before. Yin-Kurama is so grumpy and I can’t wait to see more of him - the scene with him teaching Mirai how to access chakra was great. Poor guy, he has no idea what he’s in for with her. Guess he’s gotta find ways to be an asshole where he can!

Tenten and Lee! I completely forgot those two were orphans. I’m glad Mirai and Naruto aren’t totally on their own. And baby Sasuke! I’m glad we’re seeing more incorporation of canon characters, and seeing Itachi made me wonder what, if anything, Mirai is going to do about the Uchiha massacre. Not that I ever held Hiruzen in a favourable light to begin with, but in the context of this story, just like Mirai, I’m really starting to hate the guy.

I’m trying something new where I comment on each chapter as I read through a new fic - hope it’s not too irritating.

Mirai is so cute, and her relationship with Naruto is adorable! I’m not sure if I ENTIRELY buy the speed at which she’s developing and the fact that nobody seems suspicious (even if they are ANBU) but hey - suspension of disbelief and all that. I can’t wait to see how Naruto’s development is different because of her, and I’m really looking forward to more scenes with her and Kakashi - the poor guy could really use a little light at this point in his life.

Decent story but you kinda need to work on your pacing. You're over 200k words in and you haven't left the academy. You do well at character development but sometimes you need to skip over periods of time. You spent so long pre academy that I honestly had trouble continuing to read the story. Yes sometimes people can do character driven stuff and have time pass at a snail's pace. The problem is that Naruto just isn't well suited for that. Any plot set in the Naruto world that I have read doesn't start moving until the characters are ninjas. Just keep that in mind.

Okay I have not read this whole story, mostly because I couldn’t get past chapter 3 for a variety of reasons.
Reason 1: Japanese being mixed into the story without reason. It makes no sense for it to be used as the characters are all speaking Japanese. It just looks cringy...
Reason 2: The Kyuubi and a few other characters (Like Kakashi) are OOC.
Reason 3: Your character is also acting like a Mary Sue (at least from what I’ve read). Everyone likes her, and the whole thing with everyone hating her doesn’t seem to bother her at all.

Fantastic fic! I cried for quite a few chapters but it was very worth it!

Just wanted to let you know that I quite enjoy this story! Can't really go wrong with a well written twin-OC/SI story for Naruto! I happen to very much enjoy the fact that you're showing how she's growing along with everyone else, but I do believe that you might be due a time-skip soon-ish... at least up till her genin graduation. :)

Can't wait for a future chapter!
