Reviews for The Legend of Ban
The Worst Kind of Monster chapter 13 . 8/1
Some time ago, first met Ban, the Next Avatar, following his birth to the prestigious Beifong family. And since then we have followed the exploits of he, Meiling, Ryuku and Willow as they worked to master the Element of Earth and confronted injustice and crime in the new world of Avatar. This original Avatar Legend of yours definitely lives up to the original, with its own unique flavor and very modern sensibilities. I for one am vastly enjoying this very original world you are shaping up for us, having shades of the Avatar four nations we've grown to love, our own modern world and still very much a realm of fantasy and spiritualism. And kudos for using less well-known locations, some of which seem wholly original, but retain the flavor of Avatar, especially this Laoling, a very modern city with very run down, haphazardous conditions. Everything just seems so tired and worn. A perfect environment for the drug trade.

Your choice of villains has also done much to shape the story, from corrupt cops to a secret conspiracy, not least of which of course being the Big Bad of Book One, the psychotic Jade. Mentioning her hypothetical voice acting as the ever wonderful Grey Griffin definitely helps give depth to her performance, and it is easy to picture a screeching, psychotic Triad princess who is as lethal as she is lovely. Introducing her, and then showing us that bigger fish lie on the horizon, seems a brilliant move, and keeps interest up for the next 'book' to come. A chance to meet this new villain Drago and learn what he is all about. He seems very much a different sort of threat than Jade has been. Someone more disciplined, more professional, if no less ruthless and lethal. And someone with a larger agenda than getting rich.

You owe it to your fans to write more, we must see the training in the remaining Elements of Fire, Air, and Water, as well as this growing threat from the Black Lotus organization that threatens the next Avatar. We will do our best to be patient, but please, do not make us wait another Ten Thousand Years for this story to finish.

This is a delightful story, and I'm grateful you decided to update. Ban's battle against Jade was truly epic, wonderfully intense, and a very satisfying read.

I cannot wait to read more, please update soon.

Alright, it's time for the Season finale. Naturally everyone's exhausted as hell, after a fight like that, so this is mostly just an aftermath chapter, of everyone recovering while the bad guys are arrested. Though, with no bad guys to focus on, this gives the opportunity to ask about Baatar's past, leading to quite some awkwardness. It was good to finally get some answers about that, and you did a good job making Baatar seem sympathetic, explaining why he did the things he did, and showing that is is trying to change. And fortunately, every seems to be willing to forgive him, so that was nice. Still their worries aren't over. Ban still needs to learn his elements, his assassins are still out there and Jade's boss Drago has come, to take her place, with a brutal entrance. Fortunately, the third Team Avatar is ready to take on, whatever challenges they may face. Great job, ending things on a high note.

So it appeared that it was over, then it revealed that they only defeated the equivalent of Admiral Zhao, and now they have the equivalent of Azula after them. Guess you're never bored when you are the avatar, aren't you?

I felt that Baatar's backstory was nice. Like, he didn't do anything terrible, and given who his parents were I'm surprised he didn't end up worse than he did.

It's time for our first big battle. Ban vs Jade. A more experienced, hooked up on Stardust Jade. Yeah, this is probably not going to end well… This chapter was mostly all action, but you did a good job on it. Each different section was great, showing the Gaang being badass against the Triad. Meiling & Ryuku was a tense one, with both running on fumes, and eventually being over whelmed by the Triad, despite some help from Willow & Jiao. Though luckily Ryu gets a second wind, and is able to turn the tide of battle. As for Ban's fight with Jade, it sure made for on great first battle. Really loved how you incorporated, the Earth style teaching into this fight, with Ban needing to be patient & smart, rather than just fight his way through. It fits with the theme, and shows that Ban really is learning. And with that, the Triad's all beaten up. Good stuff.

You're updating this story more often lately. That's pretty nice.

And thus Ban finally defeats Jade. Good one. Also, nice recalling of the neutral jing. As well as the brief contact with Korra.
