It's nice how you're making their relationship more focused on friendship and then romance, instead of the typical "hey, we just met, and I love you" sort of plot. With their situations, it makes more sense.

It's nice to see how Marelda has some weak areas - it gives her character some nice depth

I understand where Marelda's coming from, but I can't help but sympathize more with Luca. Their situations are completely different - she still has her family around, but he never got to experience that. I'd imagine that by finding proof, he'd feel like he truly does, or did, have a family. Maybe it'd make him feel like he belongs, and wasn't some flaw or mistake.
I don't know, I think he needs to find proof for his own sake... though it wouldn't hurt if he at least tried to get permission or help from the headmaster or something (of course, asking for permission isn't really Luca's thing -_-.)
