Oh. Ohhhhh, shortcakes, Iemitsu. Does not know.
It was jarring to see him refer to Kou by her birth name, and the dissonance it created and rippled throughout the conversation really punctuated that it was perhaps the most socially stressed Kou has been thus far—more than the blind fear of Kunihiro, the overwhelming nervousness of talking to her crush, the terror of Reborn, and maybe even the bit where she had to confront Mochida and apologize but got utterly humiliated by that a-hole third year. This... she can't really lash out like she did with the confrontation, and there's seriou circumstantial issues in play because she's afraid Iemitsu won't ever come home, lose interest in his child altogether if he finds out his son is now a daughter, and I'm still working out if that's for Nana's sake or because she does genuinely love her dad, just doesn't like him all that much (do not question, this is absolutely an acceptable stance on family members, just look at my detestable brother whom I love from the very bottom of my heart), but anyway. Will be keeping a secondary, or tertiary eye out for that.
Now! Reborn stuffing her in a dress and dragging her out to a fancy restaurant is so cute! With lots of familial fluff potential. Supportive surrogate dragon papa! But then a little less so because he dumped her on Okumura and then went to finish up business, and also failed to let her know that one of her crazy relatives was coming to pick up her new escort. *harrumph* But then, that's Reborn, and... also significantly kinder than canon version, so I don't really get to complain.

"UMAs! UMAs!" That is a BeaconTM holding itself above a sea of shining murky goodness. Period.
I find the tone of the story very agreeable; the pacing of the POV is at the sluggish, lethargic rate of the socially apathetic teenager Kou but quickens in excitement (both positive and negative) and speed when she does, and it's wonderful. The whole magical dragon thing and bloody not-corpse and how well Nana and Kou are coping with it is also a delight, and the way it lines up with the tone is just *flails bc words to communicate are overrated*
Mochida's recurring-character-ness is lovely

I was kinda iffy on this at first, given that I don't generally read genderbends, especially those with drastically (to my American ears and eyes) changed names, but I'm really glad of my decision to do so! The set up and backstory is intriguing, and I'm looking forward to a rich, well-written storyline! Thus far, of the canon cast, I like Kou's comparison of Reborn to a dragon and the integration of Mochida, in particular. The childhood friend concept is interesting, and I like how you have them use that on more than one occasion to suit their own needs! Companionable their relationship is not, but it's definitely amusing and filled with potential plot. Kou's cynicism is both true and amusing and that is a Beautiful Thing.

UWOAH lovely dialogue as always, the human interactions are basically my favorite part of all your stories? in addition to the actual plot, which i believe is "lone tsukkomi in a boke world, and also organized crime happens frequently". i might be simplifying it a bit.

anyway i love kou? a lot? she's so great. she tries so hard, but things just keep Happening. this fic has singlehandedly set the bar of my expectations very high for any other genderswap tsuna fic. not that i read a lot of those in the first place, but. and i still think it's great how you did the genderswap aspect, in contrast with the usual "cis-boy is a cis-girl now". good shit. spite-writing is powerful.
